But as I look out of my window, I know I’m only delaying the inevitable. He’ll come. He’ll find me. There’s no way he’ll keep this a secret. But I shake my head and tell myself that I don’t care. Review for Nobody Does It Better by Samantha Chase

Wondering what's been going on in Magnolia Sound? New York Times bestselling author Samantha Chase is taking you back to your favorite small town with NOBODY DOES IT BETTER! Get your copy now and find out what happens when the hometown girl goes toe to toe with the sexy billionaire who wants to change everything she loves about her home.

About NOBODY DOES IT BETTER

A billionaire hell bent on transforming a sleepy coastal town. The hometown girl determined to do whatever it takes to stop him.

Peyton Bishop has big plans and big dreams when it comes to leaving her mark on Magnolia Sound. Her great-grandfather founded the coastal town and every generation before her has left their stamp. Now it’s her turn. But just as she takes the leap and makes plans to build her own restaurant, a sexy business mogul buys her dream property right from under her.

Ryder Ashford knows a good thing when he sees it, and he knows he’s found a gem with Magnolia Sound. He just needs to get the small town up to his standards first. He’s received nothing but praise from the locals so far, but that’s about to change because the bratty and beautiful café owner whose property he just snatched isn’t shy about calling him out on his plans. He should be annoyed she’s getting in his way, but he enjoys their verbal sparring too much.

Ryder’s a man who goes after what he wants, and what he wants is the best. He never thought that would turn out to be the one woman standing between him and his dreams.

My Thoughts:  I am a fan of Magnolia Sound.   Each character respects their elders, even when they do not necessarily earn it.   They are working to keep their hometown successful and as it is.   They put family first.  This is Peyton Bishop and Ryder Ashford’s story.

I loved how opposite they seemed while having more in common than first seemed.   Ryder is the successful, rich, privileged man while Peyton owns a family café, works hard, and has an amazing family.   Together they are perfect for each other and not as different as they first appear.   Ryder pushes Peyton’s buttons, mostly unintentionally, while Peyton calls Ryder out when he acts like the privileged rich guy.

Nobody Does It Better is part of a series and this is the ninth book.   I love that each book is standalone but the characters from past books do make an appearance.  I liked catching up with some of my past favorites while also getting to know two new characters.    I look forward to more of this series.

Review for The Wicked Widow by Beatriz Williams

The Wicked Widow by Beatriz Williams

ebook, 288 pages

Published October 12th 2021 by William Morrow Paperbacks

Genre:  Historical Fiction

From Goodreads:  Gin Kelly, the wicked redhead, is back! Readers will delight in next installment of the Wicked City series by New York Times bestselling author Beatriz Williams.

June 1925. Audacious Appalachian flapper Geneva "Gin" Kelly prepares to trade her high-flying ways for respectable marriage to Oliver Anson Marshall, a steadfast Prohibition agent who happens to hail from one of New York's most distinguished families. But just as wedding bells chime, the head of the notorious East Coast rum-running racket--and Anson's mortal enemy--turns up murdered at a society funeral, and their short-lived honeymoon bliss goes up in a spectacular blaze that sends Anson back undercover...and into the jaws of a trap from which not even Gin can rescue him. As violence explodes around her, Gin must summon all her considerable moxie to trace the tentacles of this sinister organization back to their shocking source, and face down a legendary American family at a rigged game it has no intention of losing.

June 1998. When Ella Dommerich's ninety something society queen aunt Julie ropes her into digging up dirt on Senator (and Presidential candidate) Franklin Hardcastle in order to settle old family scores, she couldn't be less enthusiastic. Pregnant Ella's recently ditched her unfaithful husband and settled into cozy--if complicated--domesticity with her almost-too-good-to-be-true musician boyfriend, Hector. But then the Hardcastle secrets lead to a web of shady dealings Ella's uncovered in her job as a financial analyst, and the bodies start to tumble out of the venerable woodwork. With the help of her ex-husband and her mysterious connection to a certain redheaded flapper, Ella digs up more than mere dirt...only to discover herself standing alone between a legendarily ruthless family and the prize it's sought for generations.

What ugly secrets lurk in the opulent enclaves--and bank accounts--of America's richest families? And can two determined women from two different generations thwart the murderous legacy of the demon liquor?

My Thoughts:  The redhead is back.    Gin Kelley is back in the fourth book of the Wicked City Series.   I am entirely hooked on Beatriz Williams and love that she keeps bringing back a character that I love.    Gin Kelley is one of those characters that once you read about them you crave knowing more.    The Wicked City Series is her story.   Each book is a read alone but the story ends with more to tell.

The dual timelines were perfect.   Each time had their own story, but they intertwined perfectly.   I liked that I did not have to guess as to what the connection was.  Ella’s story and her willingness to help Aunt Julie find out the truth about the family was so interesting.  I liked that even though it is more current there is still history being shared and discovered.

Both characters had very interesting love lives.   I loved Gin’s husband and how they lived an interesting life, their life was not boring, and I was kept on my toes wondering where they would go next.   Ella’s husband was a trip, not in a good way, and her relationship with Hector kept me guessing at if they could find a way to be together forever.

I am so very excited for this book and more to come in this series.   Gin Kelley has more to share.

Book Review for Christmas in Peachtree Bluff by Kristy Woodson Harvey

Christmas in Peachtree Bluff by  Kristy Woodson Harvey

Paperback, 368 pages

Publication: October 26th 2021 by Gallery Books

Genre:  Chick Lit, Holiday, Christmas, Womens Fiction

From Goodreads:  In the newest installment of New York Times bestselling author Kristy Woodson Harvey’
s Peachtree Bluff series, three generations of the Murphy women must come together when a hurricane threatens to destroy their hometown—and the holiday season in the process.

When the Murphy women are in trouble, they always know they can turn to their mother, Ansley. So when eldest daughter Caroline and her husband, James, announce they are divorcing—and fifteen-year-old daughter Vivi acts out in response—Caroline, at her wits end, can’t think of anything to do besides leave her with Ansley in Peachtree Bluff for the holidays. After all, how much trouble can one teenager get into on a tiny island?

Quite a lot, as it turns out.

As the “storm of the century” heads toward Peachtree Bluff, Ansley and her husband, Jack, with Vivi in tow, are grateful they’re planning to leave for the trip of a lifetime. But Vivi’s recklessness forces the trio to shelter in place during the worst hurricane Peachtree has ever seen. With no power, no provisions, and the water rising, the circumstances become dire very quickly…and the Murphy sisters, who evacuated to New York, soon realize it’s up to them to conduct a rescue mission. With the bridges closed and no way to access Peachtree Bluff by land or air, they set sail on Caroline’s boat, The Starlite Sisters, determined to rebuild their beloved town—as well as their family.

My Thoughts:   I finished this book just before I went to bed, and I dreamed of being in Peachtree Bluff.   I saw Tyler and Vivi circling each other and trying to figure out the dating world.  I saw Caroline worrying about Vivi and her acting out.    I felt Ansley’s love at having all her girls together even with the hurricane heading their way.    Everything about this book stayed with me and I loved it.

Kristy Woodson Harvey is amazing.   Every character was realistic, the storyline was perfectly written, and the setting of Peachtree Bluff will always be my favorite.    The smooth writing, the real feelings, and the loving family made this the perfect next book in this series.   I love that the books do not have to be read in order but reading them in order will give the reader the backstory of the characters.   Kristy Woodson Harvey does a great job of telling enough backstory of the characters so that new readers will know what is happening.

Christmas in Peachtree Bluff is a cozy and cute Christmas story.   There is family drama, love, respect, and a hurricane.

Lacey cracked open the paint can and poured the new shade of sea foam green into a pan while grinning over her shoulder at Bryce. “This is really how you want to spend your day?”

“As long as I’m spending it with you.”
“We could be spending it doing other things, but…”

“Hand me a paint brush.” He ignored her comment and went on to trimming in around the window frame, sighing.

She was still holding out on him. Refusing to admit they were more than just friends. He was afraid to admit it, but he may have officially been friend-zoned; that is, if you cuddled in bed and literally slept with friends. A month later, and he couldn’t get her to agree that there was something going on between them.

They’d been spending all their free time together, getting to know each other, falling asleep in each other’s arms. But still, nothing. Shit, case in point, she had somehow recruited him for projects around her house, and he wasn’t even getting sex out of the deal. He was in way over his head with this one.

He may be selfish, but at least he wasn’t sleeping in the barracks every night and dealing with the ridiculous Texas Heat during the day.

He’d tried everything to get through to her, though. Confessed his feelings every chance he got. Maybe that was it? Maybe he was coming on too strong. If he laid low, he feared he’d lose her all together.

“You’re thinking awfully loud over there.” Lacey pulled his attention away from his mind that was running in circles.

The filter between his brain and his mouth had clearly been damaged by paint fumes. “Aren’t you ready to give in yet and admit that there’s more going on here?”

Turning toward him, Lacey batted her lashes. “Whatever do you mean? There’s a lot going on here, Bryce. In case you haven’t noticed, we’re in the middle of a remodel. There’s more than just painting that needs to be done.”

“Tease. You’re a goddamn tease, Lacey.” He dropped his paintbrush and stalked in her direction. Maybe if he gave her just a taste, she would change her mind.

Book Review for So, This is Christmas by Tracy Andreen

So, This Is Christmas by Tracy Andreen

Hardcover, 368 pages

Publication: October 12th 2021 by Viking Books for Young Readers

Genre:  Christmas, Holiday, Young Adult, Romance, Contemporary

From Goodreads:  Sarah Dessen meets Let It Snow in this new YA Christmas romance!

When Finley Brown returned to her hometown of Christmas, Oklahoma, from boarding school, she expected to find it just as she left it. Christmas hasn't changed much in her sixteen years. But instead she returns to find that her best friend is dating her ex-boyfriend, her parents have separated, and her archnemesis got a job working at her grandmother's inn. And she certainly didn't expect to find the boy she may or may not have tricked into believing that Christmas was an idyllic holiday paradise on her grandmother's doorstep. It's up to Finley to make sure he gets the Christmas he was promised. This is Finley's Christmas. It's about home and family and friends and finding her place, and along the way she also finds the best Christmas present of all: love.

My Thoughts:  I am really in the Christmas book mood.   It was 80 degrees outside and I turned the air on so it was chilly and cuddled under my fuzzy blanket to enjoy So, This is Christmas.    I could not put it down.   I enjoyed the setting of Christmas, the characters were fun and quirky, and the story kept me entertained.

So, This is Christmas is a young adult story but it has a lot to offer for a non-young adult reader.   I liked the romance and how shy both Finley and Arthur were with each other.    I am not sure they were even really friends when the story started but as the story went on, I could see the attraction and noticed the flirting.  I liked seeing them become friends and was happy to watch their friendship grow.

There were teenage issues in the story but there were also adult issues.   Grandma Jo had her adult secret and I liked that it was kept a secret and handled with respect.   Tinley’s parents had their own thing going on, I did not love how Tinley’s mom did not put her first but I did like that both parents knew what they needed to do for themselves.

There were many quirks and fun in the town of Christmas.  I laughed out loud, I smiled, I shook my head, and most of all I enjoyed the entire book from beginning to end.

Audiobook Review for Sweet, Sexy, Heart By: Melissa Foster

Audiobook Review for Sweet, Sexy, Heart By: Melissa Foster

Narrated by: Meg SylvanTim Paige

Series: The Bradens & Montgomerys (Pleasant Hill - Oak Falls) Series, Book 8

Length: 9 hrs and 45 mins

Unabridged Audiobook

Release date: 08-04-21

Language: English

Publisher: Melissa Foster

Publisher's Summary

From Audible:  Discover the magic of New York Times best seller Melissa Foster's writing and see why millions of fans have fallen in love with the fiercely loyal and sassily sexy characters in the Love in Bloom big-family romance families. All Love in Bloom books can be enjoyed as stand-alone novels or as part of the larger series.

For this sweet bookstore owner, avoiding the charms of a famed football player-turned-author was supposed to be easy.... Funny, sinfully sexy, opposite-attracts romance.

Amber Montgomery is perfectly happy with her quiet life, running her bookstore, taking long walks with Reno, her Labrador retriever seizure-response dog, and spending time with her close-knit family. She’s never needed thrills the way some of her sisters have. In an effort to control her epilepsy, she tries to avoid anything that creates too much excitement or stress - including relationships.

When Amber hosts a book signing for famed athlete-turned-author Dash Pennington, he’s everything she’s spent her life avoiding: loud, aggressive, and far too handsome, as proven by the hordes of women who surround him everywhere he goes. Amber can’t ignore the sparks flying between her and Dash, but this is a no-brainer for her: Ignore their chemistry and hold her breath until he leaves town.

Dash Pennington has spent his life running. Running the ball in for a touchdown, running from town to town to appease his public relations reps, and running into the arms of too many women to count. He’s also an expert at protecting - his reputation, his sisters, and lately, his sanity. But he’s ready to make a change. When he comes to the sleepy little town of Oak Falls, Virginia, and witnesses the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen, living the life he craves, she refuses to have anything to do with him. But now that Dash has found the one thing he doesn’t want to run from, he’ll stop at nothing to win her over.

Audiobook Review:  I absolutely love Meg Sylvan and Tim Paige as narrators.   They are perfect for Melissa Foster’s Sweet, Sexy Heart book.    Dash and Amber are sweet, sexy, and fun and the voices of the narrators portray them perfectly.   I could feel their love, hear their respect, and know exactly what emotion they were feeling as I listened to the story.

eBook Review:  Dash Pennington is all alpha male, which is exactly what Amber Montgomery is not needing in her life.    Amber is happy to run her bookstore, hang out with her friends, and live her quiet life.  Enter Dash, who upon first look decides that Amber is all that he wants.    As a retired athlete, motivational speaker, and author he goes for what he wants and does not give up until he gets it.

I loved that Melissa Foster wrote Amber as not a perfect character.   She has epilepsy and it has held her back some.   She knows that stress and tiredness can bring on seizures, so she lives her life carefully and aware of her body’s reactions.   Dash Pennington has done his research on epilepsy and knows that he has to be aware of Amber’s needs.  I love that he embraces her life, supports her, and wants a relationship with her.   He does not just pursue her, he woos her, he wins her over, and he gives her everything that he has to offer.

Dash and Amber are meant to be.   They belong together and I look forward to catching glimpses of their future in other books in this series.
