Exclusive Excerpt:

This is how my heart breaks

What. The. Fuck. I had sat down at my desk and opened the manila envelope that was left on top of my stack of mail. It had seemed harmless enough. But it wasn’t. I blink my eyes over and over trying to make my brain process what it’s seeing but I can’t. I can’t unsee the images in the stack of pictures in my hand. Giant glossy eight by tens from different angles so there is absolutely no doubt that my heart is breaking. And it is broken. It’s not just broken, it’s shattered. “It’s not what it looks like,” I hear from over my shoulder and I have to grit my teeth to keep from screaming. I shuffle the pictures sliding the top one to the back of the stack so that I can see the next in the row. This one is zoomed in. His head is tipped back and his face is distorted in both lust and passion as she straddles his lap. Her hands hold his to her breasts and I can see the play of tendons flex through them as he grips them tight. It was only two nights ago that his hands were on my own breasts much the same way as I rode his cock on the sofa. “Claire, did you hear me?” he asks but I shuffle the stack again. In this picture, he has his arms wrapped around her back and he’s pulling her close, her breasts mashed up against his strong chest. Her hands with long, red painted talons press in on either side of his face and as they kiss hungrily, their mouths open as their tongues tangle. “Goddamnit, Claire! Did you hear me?” My spine turns to steal. “I did. I’m just choosing to ignore you,” I respond coolly. “Don’t do this, baby,” he pleads. “I’m not the one who did anything,” I snap. “I can explain.” But I’m not interested in listening to him plead a case where he is more than guilty. “I’m going to need you to leave, Wes.” “No.” “This changes everything,” I say so softly even I struggle to hear the words that are coming out of my mouth. “This changes nothing! Fuck that, Claire,” he yells. “You want to run away. You have always wanted to run away. And here is your fucking reason served up to you on a goddamn silver platter.” Everyone around us in the bullpen is doing everything they can to make it appear that they are not listening, not studying the tragic demise of Claire and Wes with rapt attention, but we all know that they are. “No,” I shout back as I throw the stack of glossy betrayal down on top of my desk as I push my rolly chair back and stand. It slams into the desk behind mine. “You do not get to come in here, where I work, and tell me that I am to blame for your bullshit.” “Okay,” he says quickly as he holds his hands up in surrender. “You’re right. I’m sorry. I can see you need time.” “I need a lot of things. One of them is definitely distance.” “I don’t know if I can give you that. I can’t lose you, baby.” His words burn hot behind my eyes and the last thing I want is for the other guys in the bullpen to see me cry. “You should have thought about that before you fooled around with that stripper.” “Claire—” he starts but I don’t let him finish. “You need to go now,” I say softly. I stand with my feet apart, my hands on my hips, and my head bowed as if I’m waiting for a blow. But I see him clearly even if only in my peripheral. He looks at me and opens his mouth as if he’s going to try to explain again. Something in my stance must have told him it was a losing battle because he snaps his mouth closed before moving towards the exit. Wes pauses just before opening the door to turn and look back at me, I see him in my peripheral, but I’m looking at his lies and deceit spread across my desk for all to see. He pulls open the door and then slams it on his way out. I’m Detective Claire Goodnite and this is how my heart breaks.

REVIEW of Clinched by Nikki Ash

Title: Clinched: A Single Dad Romance
Author: Nikki Ash
Genre: Contemporary/Single Dad Romance
Release Date: April 28, 2018
Charlie is everything I want and didn’t realize I need. It’s clear to me now that the woman I met at the club is only one layer of the woman I’m falling for. I’m a fixer by nature but for the first time I wouldn't fix a thing. I want her just the way she is. Broken pieces and all. Who needs the fairy tale when we can have the reality.

Tristan is everything I want, yet don't deserve. He’s loving, protective, smart, an amazing father, and he’s on to me. That's why I need to speed this story up and tell him everything, so we can flip to the end of the book, and him and his daughter can move on to the next story. One where they get a happily ever after. Because there’s no story I’m a part of that ends in any way but tragedy.

I am hooked on this series.    When I started the book I wasn't sure how much time I had to read it but I wanted to get an idea of what I was starting.   Then I read a paragraph, a page, a chapter, and pretty soon I was 1/2 way through the book and wondering when I could get back to it.   There were times I found myself sneaking away to read a few more pages, finish a chapter, or just read a couple paragraphs.      Tristan and Charlie are characters that I was invested in.   They were characters I needed to know would be okay and together.

While Tristan and Charlie are wonderful the secondary characters were equally enthralling.    Each had their own story to tell, each were there without question for their friends/family, and each were realistic.      I'm excited to go and read the rest of this series, find out who these characters really are and how they play into the story.

Tristan and Charlie are both characters with rough pasts.   Tristan has been burned by past girlfriends but wants to picket fence, 2.5 kids, and a loving wife.   Charlie is running from her past and it haunts her.     Immediately upon their meeting each other I could feel the attraction, hear the sizzle, and see the sparks.    They are meant to be but can they both, especially Charlie, trust again?

Clinched is a hot, steamy, romantic, loving, and real story.   I recommend picking up your copy.

AUDIOBOOK REVIEW of Stroke of Love by Melissa Foster

Narrated by: B.J. Harrison
Series: Love in Bloom, Book 11, Love in Bloom: The Remingtons, Book 2
Length: 9 hrs and 51 mins
Unabridged
Release date: 03-06-17
Language: English
Publisher: Melissa Foster

Publisher's Summary

Kate Paletto runs a volunteer program in Belize for Artists for International Aid, where she deals with self-centered artists who use the program as a means to repair their marred reputations. She loves the country, the people, and what AIA stands for, but too many diva volunteers have turned her off to press-seeking celebrities altogether and left her questioning the value of the volunteer program. When she meets incredibly handsome and charming Sage, he stirs emotions she hasn't felt for ages, even though he represents the things she despises.

Laid-back artist Sage Remington escapes his wealthy lifestyle in the Big Apple for a two-week journey of self-discovery to figure out how a guy who has so much can feel so empty. When he meets ultra-organized Kate, who lives her life the way he's always dreamed of living his, the attraction is too hot to ignore, but Sage is there to figure out what's missing in his life, not to find a woman.

Every look, and every late-night chat in the romantic jungle brings them closer together, but Sage can barely think past stripping away Kate's misconceptions about him. Kate fights him every step of the way - even though she finds it hard to ignore the strikingly handsome, generous-to-a-fault artist who wants to do nothing more than right the wrongs of the world - and love her to the ends of the earth.

My Thoughts…

When I listen to the audible version of Stroke of Love I find myself remembering why I love this series so much. The narrator is wonderful. He is able to portray the feelings, emotions, and reactions of the characters perfectly. BJ Harrison makes each character come to life.

I immediately fell for Sage, although he is a popular and successful artist, he is so down to earth and real. He knows what he wants to do and isn’t doing it to make him more popular or to make him more money; he does it to make the world better or just because he wants to. He is not selfish and is really a breath of fresh air. The way he eases into Kate’s life and world, not letting Kate’s tough exterior keep him away or detour him from making a difference in the town or with the kids he is working for.

I am sure I say this about Melissa Foster’s entire series, but it is amazing. They are each so perfectly written and with so much love and character I cannot stop reading. Each can be read as a stand-alone, but are so much more enjoyable as a series.

GIVEAWAY & ORGAN DONATION AWARENESS

Jenna Sutton is giving away a $50 Amazon gift card and a tote bag to celebrate organ donation month from April 27th – May 4th. You can enter the giveaway here: http://bit.ly/2JoGeJO Find out more about Jenna Sutton, why being an organ donor is so important to her, and ROYAL MESS below!

Read a Note from Jenna Sutton

Did you know nearly 120,000 people are on the organ transplant waiting list here in the United States? And every day, 20 people die while waiting for a transplant. I became an advocate for organ and tissue donation in high school when one of my best friends ended up on the transplant list. The day I got my driver’s license, I checked the box to be an organ donor and made sure my family was aware of my wishes. I knew I could donate blood, bone marrow, and kidneys. But I didn’t realize liver transplants could come from living donors until I met an incredible woman named Tammy. She donated 67 percent of her liver to a complete stranger after hearing about his need for a transplant on Facebook. Tammy’s story really resonated with me because most living donors know the people they’re helping. It’s not often that someone extends such generosity to a stranger. After talking with Tammy, I decided to spread the word about living donation. After brainstorming ideas, I came up with the story of Tessa Lulach, a flower shop owner who desperately needs a new liver, and Prince Leo of Alsania, the handsome royal who saves her life. Like the fictional country of Alsania in Royal Mess, the U.S. has an opt-in organ donation law. In other words, you must go out of your way to register as a donor. A whopping 95 percent of people support donation, but only 54 percent are registered as organ donors. You can register to be an organ donor in two ways: 1) online at organdonor.gov or 2) in-person at your local motor vehicle department. By signing up to be an organ donor, you have the power to be someone’s miracle. Best wishes, Jenna Sutton

About ROYAL MESS

Available May 8th
From award-winning author Jenna Sutton comes the story of two princes who discover that falling in love is messy
Prince Leo’s icy demeanor has earned him an amusing nickname—the Polar Prince. Unfortunately, the king doesn’t see the humor. If Leo wants to secure the throne of Alsania, he must improve his image. Participating in an organ donation campaign seems like a good start. He expects to donate his organs on his deathbed, so he’s surprised to be matched with a complete stranger who needs his help now.
Tessa Lulach hates to admit it, but she’s a damsel in distress. When a handsome prince offers to save her with a hunk of his liver, she joyfully accepts. She can’t wait to feel like herself again and return to her beloved flower shop. Instead, her identity is revealed, and the quiet life she loves is turned upside down.
As Leo and Tessa deal with the nosy public and ruthless paparazzi, she realizes the Polar Prince is much warmer than he seems—scorching hot, in fact. He willingly gave her a part of his liver, but can he give her his whole heart?
*****
Everyone loves Prince Marco of Alsania, despite his reckless antics … or maybe because of them. So why does sexy schoolteacher Cassie Lulach prefer a boring investment banker over him? Wounded by her indifference, he has an erotic encounter with a masked woman at a royal ball who reminds him of the one he really wants.
After another failed relationship, Cassie is frustrated with immature, inconsiderate guys. Wanting to escape reality, she attends a masquerade ball and finds herself alone with a masked stranger. For the first time in her life, she acts on impulse, only to end up pregnant and absolutely clueless about the identity of her baby’s father.
When Marco learns of Cassie’s pregnancy and her plans to raise the baby alone, he promises to be there for her, hoping she’ll finally see him as more than just a playboy prince. But then he discovers she’s the woman from the masquerade ball and panics. Will the truth destroy his chance to win over Cassie, or will he convince her that they can have their own happily ever after?

REVIEW of Too Close to Breathe (Frankie Sheehan #1) by Olivia Kiernan

Perfect for fans of Tana French, Jane Casey and Gillian Flynn

TOO SOON TO SEE

Polished. Professional. Perfect. Dead. Respected scientist Dr Eleanor Costello is found hanging in her immaculate home: the scene the very picture of a suicide.

TOO LATE TO HIDE

DCS Frankie Sheehan is handed the case, and almost immediately spots foul play. Sheehan, a trained profiler, is seeking a murderer with a talent for death.

TOO CLOSE TO BREATHE

As Frankie strives to paint a picture of the killer, and their victim, she starts to sense they are part of a larger, darker canvas, on which the lines between the two blur.

Olivia Kiernan's debut is a bold, brilliant thriller that will keep you guessing and leave you breathless.

My Thoughts...

WOW... This is a debut book by Olivia Kiernan.     DCS Frankie Sheehan has a lot going on.    She is working on solving a string of crimes while also dealing with a crime that happen against her.     There is no doubt the crime against her left her with many issues to deal with but working is helping her get on with her life.   I like that a Frankie didn't let her issues keep her out of living life.    I actually think that because of what happen it helps her keep prospective of the crimes, sees things other have or could have missed, and work harder to solve a crime that others have written off as unsolvable.

I was enthralled from the beginning and by the halfway point of the story I thought I had the case solved.    Yea, well I wasn't even close.    I love being wrong while reading.     The hints led me one way while I should have gone the other way.      While there were some hints that I knew were taking me the wrong direction since what fun would it be to give it all away at the beginning of the story I couldn't help but follow them.

I am a synopsis and cover person.   For me to want to read a book the cover has to grab my attention.   The cover of Too Close to Breathe did just that.   I look at the cover and saw a mystery, a thriller, and a dark story that I couldn't wait to pick up.    Then when I read the synopsis and Olivia Kiernan was compared to such amazing authors as Tana French and Gillian Flynn I knew that I would not be able to pass on this book.

REVIEW of Blood Type by K.A. Linde

A startling new vision of paranormal romance: When a human ventures into the world of vampires—a decadent milieu of blood-bonds and betrayal—she discovers that not all is what it seems. For Reyna Carpenter, giving up her body isn’t a choice. It’s survival. In a civilization laid waste by poverty and desperation, Reyna accepts a high-paying position with the wealthy and hungry vampire elite. Her new job is as the live-in blood escort for the intimidating, demanding, and devilishly handsome Beckham Anderson. He’s everything she expected from a vampire, except for one thing—he won’t feed off her. Reyna soon discovers that behind Beckham’s brooding, wicked façade lies a unique and complex man. And that, in a dark and divided world, she is more valuable than she ever would have believed. For with each passing night, Reyna can’t shake the sensation that it’s Beckham who’s afraid of her. Note: Reyna and Beckham’s story continues in Blood Match.

My Thoughts...

I am a vampire fan.   I thought I had every version of vampire there is.    Blood Type is a great combination of my favorite types of vampire books.   The vampires in this story are powerful, have no real care for the humans other than for their blood, and cannot see beyond what they want.     The exception to this rule is Beck.    He cares but is still a vampire and has to play the vampire game.   I love that he isn't able to show his hand but takes care of Reyna by pushing her away.     From the beginning I knew there was more to Beck but I love that I had to read the entire story before I found out what that more was.

Reyna is honorable.   She grew up poor and undereducated.   Yet she wanted to do more.   She wanted that job, that she wanted to be able to help support her family but she didn't know how.    Until she found out about the new program that would make money to help her brothers and ease their burdens.   That program led her straight to Beck.    From the very first meeting the sparks were there.   There was no doubt that while she was there to sustain Beck with her blood, there was something more between them.     I was excited to read more and find out what would happen between the two of them.

Blood Type is a series and it ends with a cliffhanger.   Usually this annoys me but with this one it makes me excited to read the next books.

That was the moment Beckham appeared in the doorway like a storm cloud. Reyna straightened in her seat at the expression on his face. He walked across the room like a tightly coiled spring ready to explode. “Ah Beckham, there you are,” Harrington said. “Excuse me, William. I need to speak with Reyna. Alone.” She hastened out of her seat and followed him around the corner. He tugged her straight through the kitchens, out the back door, down a corridor, and into a dead end. Then her back was slammed against the brick wall. His fist connected with the wall behind her, and she felt the wall shudder. Debris floated onto her shoulders. “You left,” he growled. “I . . .” “No.” He pressed his finger to her lips roughly. She stopped breathing and just stared up into his eyes as dark as night. Her body trembled under the feral stare. “You left without me.” The silence was weighted. All she could do was sit with their bodies nearly touching. His finger on her mouth. Her mind wandering to hellacious places. “You are my subject. Can you imagine what it was like when I found you missing? When you turned up with three of my kind?” She shook her head minutely. He bared his teeth to her, and she shrank back. “These are meant to drink your blood. To drink you dry until there is nothing left of your body but a dry corpse. We are killers. We don’t hesitate. Just because we’re wearing suits and seem more like you . . . does not mean we are like you. We are not like you. They especially are not like you. The only way you get to the top of Visage is to be fucking ruthless, Reyna. Do you understand?” “You’re . . . scaring me,” she whispered. “Good.”
