Publisher's Summary

Elisabeth Nash has spent years dreaming of returning to the small town of Trusty, Colorado, where she spent summers with her favorite aunt. When she inherits her aunt's farmette, she closes her Los Angeles pet bakery and pampering business, sure that life in Trusty will be as peaceful and as welcoming as she remembers. But being an outsider in the close-knit town proves to be very different from the happy summers she remembers from her childhood - and falling for Trusty's hot, wealthy, and sinfully irresistible veterinarian, Ross Braden, sends the rumor mill into a frenzy.

Ross Braden learned long ago that gossip spreads faster than weeds in his small hometown, and Ross loves nothing more than his privacy. For that reason, he doesn't date women who live in Trusty. But that was before blond, beautiful, and refreshingly honest Elisabeth Nash flew into his vet clinic seeking help for her panicked piglet and turned his comfortable life - and his heart - inside out.
Despite rumors about Elisabeth's motives toward her aunt's property, passion brews between Elisabeth and Ross. Every steamy kiss and every sensual touch brings the pair closer together, and when Ross helps Elisabeth try to fit into the town he adores, it makes their bond even stronger. But even Elisabeth's efforts toward reaching the community, and the love she and Ross so desperately believe in, might not be enough for the protective small town to offer them a future.

My Thoughts…

B.J. Harrison is one of the best narrators there is.  He alters his voice and I can really keep up with who is saying what and I can  picture the story and characters in my head.

Oh, Melissa Foster, you just keep writing more and more stories about my book crushes.
I love Ross Braden. He is a dream come true. The Braden men all have amazing manners and a romantic heart. If only there were more real men like them (SIGH).

Elisabeth knows what her dreams are and know that she has to follow them. I cannot imagine moving to a small town where the only person that you really knew has passed away. That is exactly what Elisabeth does. She also knows she wants a real relationship, not the fluffy mean nothing relationships that her mother thinks she has had in the past. Her character was so relatable and lovable that I could not hope that she would get accepted into the town of Trusty and fall in love, like her dreams.

With each story the reader gets to visit her favorite characters and see how their lives are shaping up, while being introduced to new and fun characters. I love seeing where my last book crush has ended up and meeting my new book crush in each book. Of course, I recommend this entire series to any romance reader looking for a fun new series to read.

Blurb

Once upon a time, a girl loved a boy and he loved her back. They lived happily ever after.

But our story was never that simple.

I loved Josh with all I had, right until the day he left. Now, all these years later, he was back—and wanting me the way I’d always longed for him. Except now, I belonged to someone else. Someone who never left me the way Josh had. I figured that was the end of our story. I couldn’t alter the past.

I didn’t want to rewrite my future.

Brianna was always more than my best friend. She was the shining light in my black hole of an existence, and I loved her with every cell and bone in my body. I wasn’t good enough for her, though—more the villain than the hero in our fairy tale. When I had to leave, I vowed to come back a better man—for her. But when I finally did return, she wasn’t waiting for me anymore. She had someone new, her very own Prince Charming. Did that mean our story was over? I couldn't change our past.

It was time to rewrite our ending.

Excerpt

Brianna hadn’t uttered a single word since we stepped into the truck. Tension radiated off her entire body as she faced as far away from me as possible. I knew she was avoiding me. Our near kiss was too much for her to handle right now. I should’ve backed off and let her have her space, and I did for a few days. All we were doing was delaying the inevitable—whether she chose to admit it or not.
“I’m sorry we had to leave so soon. I would have liked to meet more of your friends.” I glanced her way, and Brianna nodded in response, still not looking at me.
“I saw Christal corner you at the bar.” Her voice was aloof but the ticking in her jaw said otherwise as she drew back into the seat.
Sick, my ass. I noticed her glaring at me and Christal tonight. She stared daggers into Christal’s back every time she touched me. She could act as aloof as she wanted. I knew she fucking hated it. My cupcake was in a losing battle with herself. She was going to make herself really get sick if she didn’t surrender soon.
“Yeah,” I chuckled. “Chatty little thing.”
Brianna nodded but wouldn’t look my way.
“She is. I’m surprised she didn’t slip you her number,” she scoffed.
“Oh, she did. In fact, she opened with that.” I fought a smile, picturing the wheels turning in her adorable little head.
Brianna’s head whipped to mine. “She did?”
“What’s wrong?” I asked with as much innocence as I could get away with. “You don’t like her?”
“No,” she offered a bit too abruptly. “I mean, she’s fine, I guess. You can talk to whomever you want.”
"So, if I take her out . . . you'd be okay with that?” I let Christal down easy and right away, but Brianna didn't need to know that. The prick in me wanted to see how this played out.
"Sure." She shrugged as she turned away from me again. "Do what you want." Her jaw clenched so hard, I thought she was going to chip a tooth as she focused on the Hudson River whizzing passed the car window.
Since we were kids, she had the worst poker face. I always knew the second she was pissed off, and judging by how her chest heaved, she was about ready to blow.
Traffic always bottlenecked around the same exit. We inched until we came to a full stop. I slid my arm around her and leaned in. She stiffened, but unless she jumped out of the car onto the side of the highway, she had nowhere to go.
I nuzzled her cheek. Fuck it, I was going for broke.
"And if I . . . take her home. You'd be . . ."
"Fine," she breathed out, her voice a mix of fury and lust. "Like I just said, do what you want."
I laughed, victorious. "Cupcake," I whispered as my lips grazed her cheek, “you are so full of shit."

Best Day Ever by Kaira Rouda

Hardcover, 384 pages
Expected publication: September 19th 2017 by Graydon House

I glance at my wife as she climbs into the passenger seat, and I am bursting with confidence. Today will be everything I’ve promised her…and more…

Paul Strom has the perfect life: a glittering career as an advertising executive, a beautiful wife, two healthy boys and a big house in a wealthy suburb. And he’s the perfect husband: breadwinner, protector, provider. That’s why he’s planned a romantic weekend for his wife, Mia, at their lake house, just the two of them. And he's promised today will be the best day ever.

But as Paul and Mia drive out of the city and toward the countryside, a spike of tension begins to wedge itself between them and doubts start to arise. How much do they trust each other? And how perfect is their marriage, or any marriage, really?

Forcing us to ask ourselves just how well we know those who are closest to us, Best Day Ever crackles with dark energy, spinning ever tighter toward its shocking conclusion. In the bestselling, page-turning vein of The Couple Next Door and The Dinner, Kaira Rouda weaves a gripping, tautly suspenseful tale of deception and betrayal dark enough to destroy a marriage…or a life.

My Thoughts…

Oh My Gosh…just look at the cover.   An eye catching red with the black wording that pops out, absolutely stunning!    Then I noticed the pages.    They are textured, uneven, and wonderful.   I still find it amazing at how such simple things as a beautiful cover and unique pages can make me want to read a book twice as much.

From the very beginning I could feel something was off between Paul and Mia.   There was something just not clicking between them yet neither of them was giving away their secrets.   I liked that the story was narrated by Paul.  He was creepy, sneaky, and just unlikable but I liked know his thoughts.     Kaira Rouda was inventive in her writing by telling the reader just enough to get them (me) guessing and then throwing a twist and a turn at us (me).

The story started slow, which I believe was deliberate, because you had to get in the minds of Mia and Paul.  You had to understand them a little better to truly fall into the rest of their story.   There was a background that had to be shared in order to understand their mindsets.

I love this dark thriller.    The entire story takes place in just 24 hours.   Yet those 24 hours are packed with deception, secrets, and betrayal.    This is a book I recommend to everyone.    Do it, go buy your copy, devour it.    Best Day Ever is a book that I could not put down.

Thank you Ann-Marie at Get Red PR and Wunderkind PR for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

The Blackbird Season by Kate Moretti

Kindle Edition, 304 pages
Expected publication: September 26th 2017 by Atria Books

Known for novels featuring “great pacing and true surprises” (Kirkus Reviews, starred review) and “nerve-shattering suspense” (Heather Gudenkauf, New York Time bestselling author), New York Times bestselling author Kate Moretti’s latest is the story of a scandal-torn Pennsylvania town and the aftermath of a troubled girl gone missing.

“Where did they come from? Why did they fall? The question would be asked a thousand times…

Until, of course, more important question arose, at which time everyone promptly forgot that a thousand birds fell on the town of Mount Oanoke at all.”

In a quiet Pennsylvania town, a thousand dead starlings fall onto a high school baseball field, unleashing a horrifying and unexpected chain of events that will rock the close-knit community.

Beloved baseball coach and teacher Nate Winters and his wife, Alicia, are well respected throughout town. That is, until one of the many reporters investigating the bizarre bird phenomenon catches Nate embracing a wayward student, Lucia Hamm, in front of a sleazy motel. Lucia soon buoys the scandal by claiming that she and Nate are engaged in an affair, throwing the town into an uproar…and leaving Alicia to wonder if her husband has a second life.

And when Lucia suddenly disappears, the police only to have one suspect: Nate.

Nate’s coworker and sole supporter, Bridget Harris, Lucia’s creative writing teacher, is determined to prove his innocence. She has Lucia’s class journal, and while some of the entries appear particularly damning to Nate’s case, others just don’t add up. Bridget knows the key to Nate’s exoneration and the truth of Lucia’s disappearance lie within the walls of the school and in the pages of that journal.

Told from the alternating points of view of Alicia, Nate, Lucia, and Bridget, The Blackbird Season is a haunting, psychologically nuanced suspense, filled with Kate Moretti’s signature “chillingly satisfying” (Publishers Weekly) twists and turns.

My Thoughts…

The Blackbird Season is an intriguing, twisted, and keep you guessing story.    I am hooked on books that have a teenager theme to them.    I have raised two teenage girls (I guess I still am raising them) and love when a book is true to the teenage world.    Kate Moretti understands the drama, the friendship circles, and the boy/girl relationships of being a teenager.   She makes the characters realistic to the real world.   There is cattiness between the girls, there is bragging between the boys, and there is competition in the relationships between the boys and girls.   All of this is stuff that I have seen with my own teenagers.

While there are teenagers in this book there are also adult stories.   The story of a teacher who may over step his teaching boundaries when it comes to his students, the story of a marriage that is  being tested with coming to terms and learning a new life after having an autistic son, and there is the story of friendships being tested.   It was interesting to see who stuck by who and who came to who’s defense in their times of need.

I am a huge Kate Moretti fan and am always excited when she has a new book coming out.   The Blackbird Season is amazing!   I cannot wait to discuss this one with my fellow book readers.    Pick up your own copy and fall into the wonderful words.

The Future She Left Behind by Marin Thomas

Kindle Edition, 352 pages
Expected publication: September 5th 2017 by Berkley
One woman's journey home gets derailed by her soon-to-be ex-mother-in-law in a novel filled with humor, small-town charm, rekindled love, and the resilient ties of family.

Cast aside by her cheating husband, Katelyn Chandler is ready to pack it all in and drive home to Little Springs, Texas. She wants a chance to regroup, reconnect with her mother, and get back to her art.

But Shirley Pratt--master manipulator, elitist snob, and Katelyn's terror of a live-in monster-in-law--has other ideas. Shirley insists on joining Katelyn's trip after her son tries to pack her off to a retirement community. Katelyn has no choice but to play peacekeeper between the ornery old woman and the proud matrons of Little Springs. Yet the small town seems to be changing Shirley. And as Katelyn weighs the wisdom of picking up where she left off with Jackson Mendoza, the town bad boy and her high school sweetheart, she must find a way to believe in the strength of her dreams.

My Thoughts…

I laughed so many times while reading this book.   It wasn’t particularly funny, but Shirley Pratt, A.K.A the mother-in-law from hell, was hilarious.   She was mean, she was a manipulator, and she was funny.   I love how she poked and prodded at her daughter-in-law and how the DIL let her but got her own pokes in.     Katelyn, the DIL, was wonderful.    She had the patience of a saint but didn’t take her life lying down.     Sure, she became the stay at home mom from TV shows but it was what she wanted to do for her twins.     Yet, when the going got tough she put her big girl panties on and did what she wanted to change her life.    I like that she didn’t let her failed marriage define who she was and didn’t play the boo hoo poor me card.

The Future She Left Behind is a book of hope, not giving up dreams, and family.     The characters were quirky and fun.   None were perfect but they were all realistic.   The storyline tugged at your heart, made you giggle, and made you have hope.

I recommend getting your own copy and enjoying it for yourself.

Thank you  Roxanne Jones at Berkley Publishing Group for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Once in a Lifetime by Kathryn R. Biel

Kindle Edition
Expected publication: September 5th 2017 by Kathryn R. Biel

Ten years ago, the Sassy Cats were at the top of the charts until Callie Smalls walked away to pursue her career in fashion and television. The other four members—Angie, Tabitha, Mandy, and Daphne—were left to fend for themselves and continue on with their lives.

That is, until the day when Callie decides to book a gig for the group at a major music festival, without talking to her former band mates. Scattered across the country, at different points in life, can they rekindle the magic in the music?

A soccer mom whose husband doesn't know about her past. A fading star, sacrificing all to stay in the spotlight just one second more. A party girl, challenged with her most important role yet. A tiger mom, fighting for her son. A desperate woman, unhappy and alone.

A lot can change in the course of a decade. Will it be harmony or hatred for the Sassy Cats?

My Thoughts…

Once in a Lifetime is an interesting look at how being famous can change your outlook on life.    The 5 Sassy Cats were all young when they were touring and living the famous life.   Now they are grown up with families, lives, and careers that do not include singing or performing.   I thought it was very interesting to see how different their lives have become and how when they come together they have to work hard to get what they want.

I loved that each chapter had the points of views of all 5 ladies.   Each Sassy Cat had her own perception of what was happening due to the circumstances of her life.  Yet, together they were going to make it work.  I could feel that each lady wants to be successful, that each lady was searching for what their future would hold, and that each lady wanted to find that fun, easy, friendship that was once there.

Kathryn Biel is talented in her writing.   Her characters are realistic and easy to relate to, the storyline always pulls me in, and I am always thrilled when she releases a new book.    I would recommend picking up your own copy of Once in a Lifetime and enjoying a fun story about 5 ladies who use to be best friends coming back together to find their futures.

Thank you Kathryn Biel for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Fool Me Once by Catherine Bybee

  • Genre:
    Contemporary Romance
  • Release Date:
    September 19th, 2017
  • Paperback ISBN:9781612185071
  • Kindle ASIN: B06WP9PSWV
  • Series:
    First Wives

    Book #1

Cynical divorce attorney Lori Cumberland lives by one motto: Love is grand, but divorce is a hundred grand. With one failed marriage under her own personal belt, Lori had fallen hard and early—and it isn’t something she plans on repeating. She’s content focusing on the temporary marriages of her rich and famous clients. When she joins some of her recent divorcées on a celebratory cruise, her only vow is fun, sun, and new friends. But Lori finds herself tempted by a jury of one.

For Reed Barlow, falling into the world of private investigation was easy. He knows the law and knows how to avoid breaking it—all while doing his job. His rule to live by? No emotion, no involvement…until Lori. His charming smile and cocky attitude distracts Lori and lowers her guard, which is exactly what Reed desires.

But what appears as a one-time-only flirtation may be a plot orchestrated by Reed. As he’s taking his investigation to a dangerous level, it’s Lori who could end up in jeopardy. Reed has only one shot for Lori to grant him a second chance. But if he comes clean with her, he blows his cover. And that just might cost him the opportunity for an alliance of family…and of love.

My Thoughts…

I love when an author starts a new series and you find old friends within the pages.     Fool Me Once revolves around Alliance, a service that sets up arranged temporary marriages.    Alliance has been found in past series written by Catherine Bybee.    This series starts with three temporary wives that are trying to come to terms with their divorces and find their own happiness.

This book is Lori’s story.   Lori is the lawyer who writes the pre-nups for   the temporary marriages.   While on a cruise where Lori is playing mother to her group of divorcees she meets Reed.    The relationship continues after the cruise and some secrets come out that could put their relationship into trouble.

I love the setting, the characters, and the story.  Once I started I could not put it down.     When I did put it down I continued to look for a few minutes here and there to pick it up and read a few more pages.     There is romance, secrets, sex, and fun everything I love in a book.

I recommend picking up your own copy and enjoying meeting Lori and the girls in the first book of the First Wives Series.
