2020 in Reviews... Books I've Reviewed in September 2020

Publisher's Summary

Discover the magic of New York Times best seller Melissa Foster's writing and see why millions have fallen in love with the fiercely loyal and sassily sexy characters in the Love in Bloom big-family romance collection. Love in Bloom novels are written to stand alone or may be enjoyed as part of the larger series, so dive right into this fun, sexy romance featuring Graham Braden's business partner, Knox Bentley!

In Making You Mine...

Knox Bentley never liked the pomp and circumstance that came with being wealthy. He'd distanced himself from his pretentious family and their fortune as a young adult and found his own path to success. But even with the world at his fingertips, he realizes something is missing, and after a long stay overseas, he finally knows exactly what it is. His no-strings-attached hookups with Aubrey Stewart, an exquisite and stubbornly independent blonde, are no longer enough for him. They connect on every level, but Aubrey is a fierce businesswoman with a new movie channel on the horizon and no time for much else. She is the deal he can't close, the precious jewel even his billions can't buy. Now that he's back in the States, he's determined to show her that what they have goes beyond the bedroom and finally make her his.

Love in Bloom novels feature alpha-male heroes and sexy, empowered women. They're flawed, funny, passionate, and relatable to listeners who enjoy contemporary romance and women's fiction. For avid fans of the Love in Bloom series, you may have met sexy and hilarious Knox Bentley, Graham Braden's business partner, in Trails of Love, and Aubrey Stewart, one of the badass billionaire founders of the Ladies Who Write (LWW), in Anything for Love.

My Thoughts..

Audiobook Review…If you have not listened to Andi Arndt and Jason Clarke you are missing out.   They both are very talented and easy to listen to.   Their voices share the emotions of the characters that help to bring the story to life.    I have become very partial to the dual narrators, especially when a story has a male and female perspective.   Melissa Foster wrote the wonderful story of Knox and Aubrey and Andi Arndt and Jason Clark bring it to life.

Ebook Review…No strings is exactly what Aubrey thinks she has with Knox. Until he decides that they deserve more and goes after the happy ending that he really wants, and Aubrey doesn’t know she wants. I loved that this was a story of a guy wanting more than the girl and the guy knows just what to do to get that happy ending for them both. I don’t always love the story of “no strings” relationships. I want the commitment and relationship, but this is a story that I loved! I loved that while it was “no strings” for Aubrey and Knox, they were really committed to each other. They didn’t see other people, they thought about each other when they weren’t together, and they kept in contact between hook-ups with their everyday lives.

The families of Aubrey and Knox are night and day to each other but the love they share with each other is shown through their actions and their words. I wish every person could have the type of family Aubrey and Knox do. They fight, they love, and they support even when they don’t necessarily agree with each other. Knox has been a little more distant with his family but when he returns to the family inn he falls back into the protective brother and the love he has for his family shines through in all his actions. When Aubrey brought Knox home to her family, I know that she has opened her heart entirely to him and wants him to fit in with the people who mean the most to her.

Of course, in Melissa Foster's style, I was able to catch up with some of my favorite LWW (Ladies Who Write) ladies. I love hearing what they are up to now and who they are up to it with.

My Thoughts…

My Mom’s Book Club chose this for our September BOTM (Book of the Month).    We had never read a Lisa Gray book.   I will now be looking for more from Lisa Gray.    I found Thin Air to be easy to read.  The characters were easy to enjoy, some I liked while some I did not.   The storyline was easy to follow and kept me entertained from the very beginning.     Thin Air is the first book in the Jessica Gray series, and I will be interested to read more of this series.

This is a mystery book with many interesting twists and turns.   There are a few twists and turns that could have been left out and a few that needed a little more attention but overall, I really enjoyed taking the ride that Lisa Gray wrote.     I thought it was interesting that the first book in the series has a PI investigating herself.    I am intrigued to see where the next book will take Jessica Shaw.

NEW RELEASE........

Enjoy heart-meltingly beautiful and toe-curlingly sexy romance in Tempted by Love, an emotionally riveting story about a man who has lost it all and carries a torturous secret, a divorced single mother who has everything to lose, and the little girl who helps them heal. Fall in love on the sandy shores of Silver Island, home to coffee shops, boat races, midnight rendezvous, and the sexy, sharp-witted Steeles.

In TEMPTED BY LOVE…
Years ago, bestselling author Jack “Jock” Steele lost his girlfriend and baby in a horrific accident that drove a wedge between Jock and his family, keeping him from sharing a devastating secret. An aging philanthropist saved him from the brink of despair, and for a decade Jock cared for his ailing friend who became his family. Now his friend has passed away and left him a fortune—on the condition that he publishes another book. Jock is floundering, unsure how to rebuild the life he’d walked away from, much less find his muse, have another relationship with a woman, or even think about having a family of his own. But he can’t get his sweet, sexy new friend, single-mother Daphne Zablonski out of his head, and her adorable toddler must know something he doesn’t, because she wraps her tiny fingers around his heart and won’t let go.

Daphne has been through the wringer with her ex-husband and doesn’t believe true love is in the cards for her. Friends she can handle, but letting a man see her mom bod naked? Especially someone as strikingly handsome and unbelievably sexy as Jock? No, thank you. Besides, she has a toddler to chase after and enough fictional boyfriends to fill her lonely nights. If only her book boyfriends could make her body tingle the way one look from her mysterious neighbor does.

As Jock and Daphne’s friendship turns to something too tempting to deny, their lives take an unexpected turn. Can a man who has lost everything find redemption with a woman who has everything to lose? And then there’s that secret…

My Thoughts…

Jock has my heart.   I knew from the first time I met him that his story would break my heart and bring me to tears and it did.    His life has not been easy, and his grief had taken over his life until he met a man that pushed him to move past it while learning to live again.     He meets Daphne and sparks fly but he must learn how to open his heart to her little girl before they can move forward.   Hadley, Daphne’s daughter, has Jock wrapped around her fingers and Jock knows that his life will not be complete without her in it.   He looks at his past, sees what his future could be and does all that has to be done to find his HEA.

Daphne is a single mother who wants the one man who cannot be around her daughter.    She is strong enough to know that she cannot put herself before Hadley’s happiness and makes that hard decision to not start a relationship with Jock.  Until Jock realizes that he must have both of them and he lets Daphne see how much he is trying and how much he can love them.     I love how strong Daphne is.   She stays true to herself and Hadley all while opening her heart again to love.

In true Melissa Foster style the story of Jock and Daphne will tug at your heart and make you believe in true love.

The #1 New York Times bestselling author introduces CIA agent Alisa Flynn, who is willing to go rogue if it means catching the most heartless band of criminals she's ever encountered.

When CIA agent Alisa Flynn flaunts the rules by breaking into a mansion in the middle of the night, she skillfully circumvents alarms and outwits guards only to find herself standing in billionaire Gabe Korgan's study . . . busted by Korgan himself. This could cost her her job unless, in a split second, she can turn the tables and try to convince him to join her on the most important mission of her life.

In a ripped-from-the-headlines plot, schoolgirls in Africa have been kidnapped, and Alisa knows that Korgan has the courage, financial means, and high-tech weaponry to help rescue them. With so many innocent lives hanging in the balance, what she doesn't reveal is that one of those schoolgirls is like a little sister to her. But when the truth gets out, the stakes grow even higher.

Calling in additional assistance from renowned horse whisperer Margaret Douglas, Alisa and Gabe lay their plans, only to see them descend into chaos as the line between right and wrong wavers before them like a mirage. Every path is strewn with pitfalls, each likely to get them -- or the hostages -- killed. But with the help of a brave team and a horse with the heart of a warrior, they might just get out of this alive.

My Thoughts…

I am a HUGE Iris Johansen fan.   When someone asks me what an Iris Johansen book is like I describe it as a mystery, thriller, with strong characters, twists of paranormal, and an intriguing storyline.    The thriller is always unique with each book, the twists of paranormal are more on the psychic side then the werewolf side and the storylines always make the book unputdownable.

In this book, we meet Sasha and Alisa.   There are both strong and willful female characters.   Both have a background of having to rely on themselves until they meet each other and know that they are meant to be together.    Sasha is a student at an elite private school until it is attacked for their horses.   Sasha is a student but also works in the stables and has a special bond with the horses.    Her first priority is to rescue the other students but the horses are never far from her thoughts.  Alisa is the “mother” of the relationship.   She rescues Sasha from the circus and gives her a life that makes her safe and happy.   Alisha is CIA, extremely smart, and loves Sasha with everything she has.    I enjoyed seeing how she had to put her protective nature aside to let Sasha help save herself, but she never entirely gave up the controls.

Chaos is another winner from the talented and entertaining Iris Johansen.

**Thank you to Ann-Marie at Get Red PR for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Summary

I know I should stay away from Ian Parker.

But when my drug-dealing stepdad kicks me out, I have nowhere to go. Squatting in an abandoned shed on Ian’s grandpa’s farm seems like as good a plan as any.

Ian finds me there, of course, and he insists on me moving into his spare room. I should say no, but the appeal of a roof and a warm bed is too much. Not to mention Ian’s brown eyes and strong arms.

We’re nothing alike, but the spark between us is undeniable. My life is finally looking up.

Until I call the cops on my stepdad and unintentionally get my pregnant mom arrested.

Now I have to sacrifice my dreams to take care of my mom’s baby. She’s the only family I have left. Meanwhile, Ian’s band is taking off; his dreams are coming true.

Ian is my one chance at love. I just hope he doesn’t become the one chance that got away.

My Thoughts…

A woman, barely 18, begs for a job that is usually a man’s job because it pays better, and she wants to be a better person than her mother.   She wants a chance at life and knows that hard work pays off.    She gets the job and finds herself working for a man who dislikes her just because of who her stepfather is.   Of course, sparks fly, attraction happens, and that dislike becomes more than just like.

Ian Parker has a chip on his shoulder.   His folks left him to be raised by his grandparents and he has not heard from them since then.   When Hazel arrives to work with him, he knows her history and does not want her around just because of that.   I adored how tough she was when he pushed her.   She digs in, works hard, and somehow wins this tough man over.

Together, Ian and Hazel, worked so good together.   They fought, they loved, and they protected each other even when they did not understand what was really happening.   Both characters had their history and their secrets, those secrets tried to push them apart and luckily it failed.   Their story is wonderful, sweet, tough, and full of love.

I am new to Brittainy Cherry but I cannot wait to read more of her books.  I recommend picking up your own copy of The Wreckage of Us and meeting these wonderful characters and their amazing friends and families.   The story will tug at your heart, make you blush, and leave you looking for more from Brittainy Cherry.
