Blog Tour for English Channel Series by Rose Amberly

Welcome to A Soccer Mom's Book Blog Rose Amberly.   Enjoy her guest post and then scroll down and learn more about her English Channel Series.

In my first novel, Plain Jane Wanted, the central character, Millie has to deal with two painful heartbreaks. One where her husband who had been her school sweetheart turns on her with angry insults because he felt cornered. Of course, being caught in bed with a lingerie model would make any man feel cornered and defensive. But is that a justification to turn on his loyal wife and call her ugly?

She stands there listening to insult after hurtful insult and struggling to understand how he could treat her this way when she has supported him, paid for his training and been his cheerleader for ten years.

Later, she comes to understand that hurtful words damage you from the inside and the thing to do, the only thing to do, is walk away as fast as you can. When facing a speeding lorry, you don’t stand in the middle of the road trying to understand why it’s driving on the wrong side, you get out of the way.

So when the next man she loves, a wonderful man but one with baggage, gets the wrong end of the stick and shouts at her, she doesn’t wait to understand. She walks away. And she refuses to follow him and explain herself when she’s done nothing wrong. Too many of us, women, were raised thinking it’s our responsibility to explain, to make peace. Surely if a man loves you, it’s his job to ask for your side, isn’t it?

The second thing Millie learns is about the difference between forgiveness and absolution. Forgiveness and trust.

When the man you love breaks your heart, you can forgive him but that’s not the same as trusting him. Forgiveness, is essential for your mental health because holding on to pain and anger harms you from the inside too. Forgiveness doesn’t have to mean what he did was okay. it only means you no longer feel the anger, you don’t feel a need to punish him or hold a grudge against him. You can forgive and still remember that he behaved badly, unacceptably. Forgiveness comes from the heart, trust comes from your mind. If he did wrong, what evidence is there he wont do that again when triggered or provoked? You can say ‘Yes I love you very much but we can’t be together until you deal with your baggage. Then I can trust you.’

Would you get into a car if the breaks fail only once in a blue moon?

Nor should you take a man back if he turns on you ‘only when ….’ Or ‘only if …’

This is something I feel is very important in all romantic relationships. To get your happy ending, you need to respect, love and protect yourself. Even if ‘he’ is the most amazing, gorgeous loving man in the world. Even if you’re the envy of every woman for getting him, even if you love him with all your heart. He needs to earn your trust.

As every therapist and psychologist will tell us, no one can fix anyone. So it’s his job to deal with his demons and fix his issues before he can claim the woman he loves. That’s when they will get their happy ever after.

PLAIN JANE WANTED

Who applies for a job asking for an unattractive woman?

Probably someone having the worst day of her young life.

Heart-broken Millie just lost everything, including her confidence, and desperately needs a job, a new home and a new start.

With nothing but a little courage, she sails to La Canette, a tiny rustic island in the English Channel. Her impossibly grumpy new boss doesn't allow cars or street lights on his island and he keeps trying to fire her.

Despite all this, she makes new friends who help her rediscover her laughter and the beautiful little island full of unique wild flowers awaken Millie's long-lost dreams. Gradually she blossoms into the beautiful confident woman she is meant to be.

The only danger is her boss’ son.

George might look like a knight in shining armour, but he’s sick and tired of being seen as a catch. Is it too much to ask that a woman love him for himself not his position or money? How can he allow himself to fall for Millie when she is exactly the kind of woman who needs a knight in shining armour.

If you enjoy the novels of Heidi Swain, Carole Matthews and Sue Moorcroft, you’ll love this beautiful, funny and moving novel.

Trying to prove this wrong has left her with three broken engagements, an empty bank account and a career in tatters. Finally, she’s accepted she’ll never walk down the aisle. Now she desperately needs to rescue her career.

A high profile design commission will make her reputation, it's the only reason she came to La Canette island. She ahs six weeks to make the perfect wedding gown, no time for anything else.

Adam, the handsome but allergic-to-marriage doctor has finally found freedom. He’s just passing through, a week maybe two, maximum, then he’ll be gone. Author Bio –

When Rose Amberly was little, she pestered her mother for stories every night (and morning and afternoon.) In the end, her parents taught her to read so they could have some peace. Very soon, she started pestering them for books and more books. By the age of six, she started to make up stories and tell them to her parents pretending she’d read them in a book. Happily, now she’s all grown up and no longer has to pretend.

She travelled widely and tried different careers is education, therapy, art management and even briefly, bookkeeping, but none of them were as much fun as making up stories.

Rose Amberly lives in London where she plants flowers and herbs in her small balcony overlooking the Thames. She loves to set her stories in gorgeous parts of the country.
