Author Bio

Hi. I’m Micalea. Ma-call-e-uh. Weird name, I know. My mom must’ve known I was going to be odd even in the womb. I’ve written a lot of books. Like a lot. Don’t ask me how many, I don’t remember at this point. I have an unhealthy addiction to Diet Coke but I can’t seem to break the habit. I listen to way too much music and hedgehogs have taken over my life. Crazy is the word that best sums up my life, but it’s the good kind of crazy and I wouldn’t change it for anything.

Bring Her Home by David Bell

 Kindle Edition, 464 pages
Expected publication: July 11th 2017 by Berkley

In the breathtaking new thriller from David Bell, bestselling author of Since She Went Away and Somebody I Used to Know, the fate of two missing teenage girls becomes a father’s worst nightmare....

Just a year and a half after the tragic death of his wife, Bill Price’s fifteen-year-old daughter, Summer, and her best friend, Haley, disappear. Days later, the girls are found in a city park. Haley is dead at the scene, while Summer is left beaten beyond recognition and clinging to life.

As Bill holds vigil over Summer’s bandaged body, the only sound the unconscious girl can make is one cryptic and chilling word: No. And the more time Bill spends with Summer, the more he wonders what happened to her. Or if the injured girl in the hospital bed is really his daughter at all.

When troubling new questions about Summer’s life surface, Bill is not prepared for the aftershocks. He’ll soon discover that both the living and the dead have secrets. And that searching for the truth will tear open old wounds that pierce straight to the heart of his family...

My Thoughts…

I am a David Bell fan.   With each book of his that I have read I have been kept captive by his words needing to read straight through to the end to solve the mystery.   With Bring Her Home I solved the mystery before I reached the end but was still so hooked that I could not put the book down.

The format of short chapters helps make the pages fly by.  I kept thinking 1 more chapter, just one more and then ending up reading for another hour.    I just couldn’t help myself.

I like that this was a story about a single dad, a widow trying to figure out how to raise his teenage daughter.  He struggled, he loved, and he did the best he could.   I have teenage daughters and I know their dad loves them and would take care of them if something happen to me but there is so much that I do for them that he is clueless about that I feel like Bill is similar to my own husband.     Bill won me over that he never gave up.   He didn’t let the police keep him in the dark, he followed his gut and his heart to find out the truth about Summer’s disappearance.

Bring Her Home is a great thriller.   There are twists, turns, and so many clues given.     They mystery isn’t hard to solve but it is so fun to learn more about the reasons, the whys, and the who’s.

Thank you to Tara O’Connor and Sara Di Blasi at Berkley, Penguin Random House for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Paperback, 304 pages
Expected publication: July 4th 2017 by G.P. Putnam's Son
A collection of all-new Paris-themed essays written by some of the biggest names in women's fiction, including Paula McLain, Therese Anne Fowler, Maggie Shipstead, and Lauren Willig, edited by Eleanor Brown, the New York Times bestselling author of The Weird Sisters and The Light of Paris.

"My time in Paris," says
New York Times-bestselling author Paula McLain (The Paris Wife), "was like no one else's ever." For each of the eighteen bestselling authors in this warm, inspiring, and charming collection of personal essays on the City of Light, nothing could be more true.

While all of the women writers featured here have written books connected to Paris, their personal stories of the city are wildly different. Meg Waite Clayton (The Race for Paris) and M. J. Rose (The Book of Lost Fragrances) share the romantic secrets that have made Paris the destination for lovers for hundreds of years. Susan Vreeland (The Girl in Hyacinth Blue) and J. Courtney Sullivan (The Engagements) peek behind the stereotype of snobbish Parisians to show us the genuine kindness of real people.

From book club favorites Paula McLain, Therese Anne Fowler (Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald), and anthology editor Eleanor Brown (The Light of Paris) to mystery writer Cara Black (Murder in the Marais), historical author Lauren Willig (The Secret History of the Pink Carnation), and memoirist Julie Powell (Julie and Julia), these Parisian memoirs range from laugh-out-loud funny to wistfully romantic to thoughtfully somber and reflective.

Perfect for armchair travelers and veterans of Parisian pilgrimages alike, readers will delight in these brand-new tales from their most beloved authors.

My Thoughts…

I am not a world traveler.   I don’t dream of visiting Paris but I love to read about Paris.   The Paris of different eras, different stations in life, and for different people all intrigue me.

This collection of short stories about Paris is wonderful.     I love that not every short story is the same.   There are stories of family visits, stories of visiting the tourist stops, stories of the art and galleries, and stories of not enjoying Paris.     There were so many different views and perspectives of visiting, living, and seeing Paris that I found myself devouring each one.       I was anxious to get to the next story.

Between each story there were short bios of the authors along with their likes, dislikes, and memories of Paris which I found informative.   It was interesting to learn a little about the authors along with what influenced their memories of Paris.

Whether you have visited Paris, dream of visiting Paris, or just like to live vicariously through what you read  this is a great collection of short stories.

Thank you Carolyn Darr of Putnam Publicity for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Since She Went Away by David J. Bell

 Paperback, 432 pages
Published June 21st 2016 by NAL
Three months earlier, Jenna Barton was supposed to meet her lifelong best friend Celia. But when Jenna arrived late, she found that Celia had disappeared—and hasn’t been seen again. Jenna has blamed herself for her friend’s disappearance every single day since then.

The only piece of evidence is a lone diamond earring found where Celia and Jenna were planning to meet, leading the national media to dub Celia “The Diamond Mom.” And even though Jenna has obsessively surfed message boards devoted to missing persons cases, she is no closer to finding any answers—or easing her guilt.

But when her son’s new girlfriend—who suddenly arrived in town without a past—disappears, a stricken Jenna begins to unwind the tangled truth behind Celia’s tragedy. And as long-buried secrets finally come to light, she discovers how completely lives can be shattered by a few simple lies.

My Thoughts…

Since She Went Away has two storylines.  I was intrigued on how these lines would criss and cross.  I had ideas, I had hopes, I had thoughts…boy was I wrong.    Well, at least mostly wrong.

My heart went out to those who had lose people due to bad circumstances, it can never be easy to lose someone much less when it is unexplained and unexpected.    Jenna and Jared were the two characters that I felt the most for.    Jenna as a mom was trying to do right by her teenage son yet she was dealing with so much.   The guilt over losing her best friends, not keeping in touch with Ciela’s daughter, and so much more going on was just too much for one person to handle.   I felt like at times she was too into herself to see what was happening with Jared and there were many times I was worried about both of their safety.      Both of them seemed to be honorary police officers and were way too involved with all the crimes happening in the town.

David Bell did an amazing job twisting and turning the story to pull the reader in.    There were so many different ways this story could have gone and I was so surprised at the ending.   I had kind of seen where it was heading, I then thought no way… not going to happen and then it did.    OH MY GOSH!

I certainly recommend picking up a copy.   I can’t wait for another David Bell book.

by N.J. Walters Blood of the Drakon #3
Publication Date: July 3, 2017
Genres: Adult, Entangled: Select Otherworld, Paranormal, Romance

SYNOPSIS:

Life is not going well for archaeologist Sam Bellamy. She’s stuck in the middle of the ocean on a salvage boat with people who want her dead. Sam doesn’t believe in dragons, but the Knights do, and if she can get one of the sacred artifacts they’re searching for away from them, she’ll consider it payback.
Ezra Easton is content to run his marine salvage company and live alone on his private island. He may be a four-thousand-year-old water drakon, but he’s civilized enough to know just because he pulls an injured woman from the ocean, doesn’t mean he gets to keep her…

Just Three Dates by David Burnett with a GIVEAWAY

NEW RELEASE...
When their mothers become matchmakers, entangling them in a series of dates with each other, Karen and Mark must each decide whether to entertain the idea of a “marriage of convenience,” or to hold out for an increasingly unlikely marriage based on love.

Since breaking with her last boyfriend, Karen has refused to trust any man her age. For the past three years, she has not dated the same one twice, and only one in ten has received even a goodnight kiss as she turned him away. Karen is an artist. She follows her feelings, lives in a cluttered loft, and gushes over vivid sunsets.

Mark still dreams about his almost-fiancée, and his date book has been empty since he threw her out a week before he’d planned to ask for her hand. His friends call him the “Ice Man,” since he seldom smiles, especially at a woman. A math professor at the College, logic guides his behavior, he loves order, and an elegant proof is a thing of beauty.

Both Karen and Mark have all but abandoned hope of ever falling in love, and, left on their own, these opposites would never attract. So, their mothers become matchmakers, entangling them in a series of dates by extracting promises that Karen and Mark will go out together three times, suggesting that, in the absence of love, a “marriage of convenience” is a live option.

If you enjoy heartwarming stories based on true-to-life behaviors, with complicated relationships and a less-than-certain outcome, this book is for you.

My Thoughts…

David Burnett has a style of writing that pulls the reader in, tugs on their emotions, and keeps them guessing until the ending.     When I finished this book I just sat…sat and thought about what I read.   Is a marriage between friends enough?   Does a marriage have to have love to succeed?   There is so much to think about.

The story of two people, both burned by people they thought they loved, who wanted to marry, have a family, and be with someone for the rest of their lives.    These two people weren’t open to falling in love again; they just wanted to be with someone they could be happy with.   It was interesting watching them try to explain the reasons they wouldn’t fall in love, that they didn’t need love, and to not move past their history.

There were parts of Just Three Dates that had me skipping ahead.  I wasn’t sure that I needed to know all about Mark’s work or about the people he worked with.  The parts of the story with this in it were not as important to the story as other parts.    This is not usual for David Burnett.   Usually I read every word and wish there was more in his books.

I recommend picking up a copy for yourself.   This is an easy and fun read.

I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.

Hearts at Play by Melissa Foster AUDIOBOOK

Brianna Heart has a six-year old daughter and a 12-year plan to keep her life as simple as possible until Layla turns 18. That means swearing off relationships and the drama that goes along with them, working two jobs, and being the best damn mother she can be.
The last thing Capital Series Grand Prix racer Hugh Braden wants after dating media-hungry leggy models and money-hungry fan girls is a blind date. But how could he turn down a favor to one of his best friends? Hugh expected the date to go poorly, but he didn't expect to be intensely attracted to the beautiful brown-eyed bartender who completely blows him off - and steals his every thought thereafter.

When Brianna's perfectly orchestrated life turns upside down, Hugh is there to help, softening the turmoil, and maybe even rescuing her heart from the lonely place where it has been hiding. Can a man who doesn't believe in fate and a woman who doesn't believe in true love find happiness in each other's arms forever?

My Thoughts...

In all the books in this series Hugh has been portrayed as a fast and hard man. Hearts at Play show how he is a romantic, sexy (as if there was any doubt, he is a Braden), compassionate, and incredible man. I always thought Treat, from Book 4 Lovers at Heart, was my crush, but very quickly into Hearts at Play Hugh took over that spot. He won me over but not only dating and wooing Brianna, but he wooed Layla too. He included her in their outings, thought about her when he was making plans with Brianna, and just made her feel like she was truly a princess. The thoughtfulness and care he took with Brianna and all her insecurities made him the most amazing man I have ever read about.

Brianna is the type of mom everyone needs. Her every thought was concerning Layla and how her actions would affect her. I had tears in my eyes many times while reading her thoughts on Layla and her concerns. Watching her struggle with her feelings towards Hugh and seeing her overcome her fears showed how strong of a woman and mother she truly is. Kat, her best friend, and her mother, Jean, had to shake her a few times and get her to open her eyes to how amazing Hugh is, but that is what best friends and mother’s are for, right?!

I cannot end this review without mentioning the bombshell that Max and Treat dropped at the end of the book. I LOVE IT!

I am sure I have said this in all my other reviews for this series, but OH MY…. This is my favorite book so far. I cannot wait to see what the rest of this series will bring me. Will a Remington replace Hugh as my crush? If you have not checked out this series you are seriously missing out on some HOTNESS. This book, as with the others, can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend you check out the entire series.
