Get prepared for the twisting and grinding of this award-winning, action-adventure story — an edge-of-your-seat narrative for young and mature readers alike.

Carly Wilson's Review:  Discovery Of The Five Senses is the brand new Young Adult read by K N Smith, and it is the first book in the ‘Urban Boys’ series.

The book is about five boys who venture into a forest they have been warned and forbidden to enter. Upon their visit an event occurs in which they each develop their own unique superpowers - as the title suggests; sight, sound, smell, taste and touch. It is with these powers that the boys are to help battle and fight crime in their neighbouring town and help prevent Druth (a bully boy) who aspires to take over the world.

I felt this book was the perfect read for teenagers, as it had the whole action/comic book feel to it as well as not being babyish. Each character is entertaining and captivating in their own right, and I love the close friendships that the boys had.

I am new to this author, and it did take me a little time to adjust to a change in writing style and pace, but this book has lots of drama and action to reel you in, and I found it thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable. I don’t want to delve too much into the plot to avoid spoilers, but it kept me on my toes with a few surprises thrown in to keep me fixated.

The style of book reminds me of similar YA series such as; House of Night etc where the kids are gifted and combatting evil. But will good trump bad? You also get insights into the relationships with their parents, and I am excited to see how this series progresses.

I would recommend this book to YA readers and adults who enjoy dabbling in this troupe. I myself love reading this type of fictional world, and felt like Smith brought a really unique idea to life in a well and thought out way, and I am hooked.
