Haunted Souls by Kathryn Knight

Kindle Edition
Expected publication: June 1st 2016 by The Wild Rose Press

Four years ago, Emily Shea and Staff Sergeant Brett Leeds agreed to part with no strings attached. Sparks flew during their brief affair, but fate intervened, sending Brett overseas. When an unexpected pregnancy derailed Emily's own plans, her attempts to locate Brett were soon overwhelmed by the challenges of single motherhood. Now, Brett has returned home, and Emily is forced to share her secret.

Despite feeling betrayed, Brett is determined to forge a relationship with their son, Tyler. As the former lovers battle both their inner demons and their mutual desire, another presence enters their lives—Tyler's imaginary friend. Soon, however, the chilling evidence points to a different conclusion: a ghost has formed a dangerous connection with their son. Emily's attempts to help both a lost soul and a friend in need spiral toward a deadly confrontation, and Brett must race to save Emily before he loses her again—forever.

My Thoughts…

I am a fan of Kathryn Knight’s other books.   Each one I have read, devoured, and loved.    Haunted Souls is the same way.   I received the book, started it, and could not put it down.    I felt like there was a bonus story in this book.     The story of Tyler and his ghost friend, Josiah, was the main story with the bonus of Emily and Brett’s love story.

The ghost story gave me goose bumps so many times.     I could not imagine being in Emily’s shoes watching her 4 year old son interact with a person only he could see.    Yet, Emily never doubted Josiah’s existence.    Josiah did not directly interact with Emily but he did let her know he was there, many times.    With each of these times I reacted in fear for Tyler and awe of how calm Emily managed to stay.     I believe I would have acted more like Brett.    The disbelief of what his son was saying and being unsure how to react.    I am thankful that Tyler had his mom to protect him, believe him, and help him get Josiah back to his mother.

Emily and Brett’s story was not unique in that a soldier comes home on break.   Girl gets pregnant and soldier goes back to war.    The difference is how Emily handled it.   Instead of freaking out, she did what she had to do to keep her baby safe.    The choices she made were not easy.   I admired how she became a single mom, struggling, yet never giving up.    I also admired how she handled Brett’s coming home and finding out about Tyler.    She didn’t place blame, in fact she shouldered more blame that she should have.   She trusted that Brett would be able to step into their life and put Tyler’s happiness first.    Brett did not disappoint either.    He became the man that both Emily and Tyler needed.    Kathryn Knight wrote their love story in very real terms.    It was not instant fall back into a relationship.   There were trust issues to deal with, histories to come to terms with, and a friendship to reestablish.    The attraction was still there, but both knew they needed more to become a family.

I certainly recommend checking out Haunted Souls.

Gull Harbor….Claire Linden is a medium.   Her job brings her to the small town of Gull Harbor to rid a home of an aggressive ghost. When she heads to the local diner she never dreams her ex would be there.

Max has put down roots in this town.    Claire has a lot of resentment and anger towards Max due to him promising to love her forever and then graduating college and leaving her with no explanation.     Of course their feelings are still there and need to be dealt with before either can be happy.

All three main characters Dan, Max, and Claire are amazing characters.   They all felt like friends.  People I would want as neighbors and friends.    Claire has to be my favorite.   Whole I do not envy her medium skills, I loved learning about her talent and watching her patience and understanding when dealing with a rather difficult ghost.

As in Kathryn Knight's first novel , Silver Lake, I could not stop reading.   This was a two day read for me only because I could not keep my eyes open any longer.

The fear I felt for Claire was real.   I was amazed at how she was able to stay calm and not run away scared.   Thank God Max and Dan  were there to ease her shaken nerves.   Although the other inhabitants of Gull Harbor left a lot to be desired , not even welcoming her to the town, I could understand why they stayed back.  A medium is a unknown to most.

Once again, I will happily recommend this book to everyone.     It has romance and paranormal my most favorite things to read of.

Divine FallAfter tragedy tears Jamie Brandt’s life apart, her only goal is to finish high school so she can leave her small hometown behind. In the meantime, riding her horse is her main source of solace, until a mysterious stable hand shows up at the barn. There’s something not quite right about the handsome new employee, and the more Jamie sees of him, the more determined she becomes to figure out what he’s hiding.

Dothan Reed came to historic Huntsville, Maryland, for one reason—revenge. But his plan can’t move forward until he finds the missing piece he needs to enhance his powers. As the only surviving Nephilim, Dothan is not only weaker than full-blooded angels; his forbidden lineage makes him an outcast in both worlds. When he discovers Jamie is the key to locating an ancient weapon, he’s forced to interact with a vulnerable human girl—a task that becomes more appealing with each encounter.

Jamie soon learns Dothan isn’t the only one with a dark secret. Each new revelation further threatens her safety, and Dothan’s betrayal shatters her heart. Forgiving him seems impossible, but the thought of turning her back on him is equally painful.

As their connection deepens, Dothan will have to make his own difficult choice: continue on his path of vengeance, or protect the girl he loves. And when Dothan’s actions thrust Jamie into an unforeseen danger, he must seek the help of his enemy…or risk losing her forever.

My Thoughts…

I love my paranormal books.  This one is quickly at the top of my must share and recommend list.     This is the third book of Kathryn Knight that I have read and each one is amazing.   This one is about angels, which is not something I read about often, but was incredibly intrigued.   As I started reading about Jamie and Dothan (love that name) I kept trying to figure out exactly what Dothan was and how Jamie played into the story.    When it was revealed how the two of them were tied together, I had that ah ha moment and could not believe it, but it all made sense and fell together.

Although Jamie and Dothan are young, the love they shared was amazing.  It was easy to see how strong and true their love was.   It was beyond the mushy, young love.   Their love was something deep.  It is not everyone who can love a Nephilim and keep their secrets.   Jamie was good for Dothan and Dothan was Jamie’s savior more than one time.

Kathryn Knight is an author that has never let me down with her books.   She is an author I am confident in always recommending.    Divine Fall is the newest of her great works and I cannot wait to have my friends read it.

Silver Lake...Five years ago, Brandy goes missing.  Her tight knit group of friends is devastated.  Now Brandy’s mom is on her deathbed and needs to know what really happen to her daughter, who has been haunting her dreams.  Brandy’s mom contacts Brandy’s friends to come back together at Silver Lake and find the truth of what has happen to Brandy.

Rain, Jason, Allie, and AJ all come together at the lake house.  Rain is recently divorced from her cheating high school boyfriend.  Jason is in a dead end relationship, waiting for the right time to end it.   Allis is happily married with twin autistic boys but is keeping a secret.  AJ comes from a very influential family where only the best is accepted and is also keeping a secret.

As they spend more time together things happen.  Doors slam, things fall off shelved, and a ghost of Brandy is seen.  The group knows the answer is out there and that Brandy is trying to lead them to her.  They just have to follow the clues to get to the answer.

Silver LakeThis is Kathryn Knight’s first published novel and all I can say is WOW!  Every character in the book is perfectly developed.  The background given is just enough without giving too much information.  By the end of the story I felt like I had been at the lake house with them all.  Hanging out and experiencing what they had.

The ghost of Brandy gave me chills many times.  The clues she left her friends kept me at the edge of my seat having to know what had happen to her.  I loved that she was more prevalent when all four friends were together.  Some of the clues threw me off as to what happen and some confirmed what I was thinking.
The ending could have gone so many ways, but I am so happy with how it was written.  I feel like everything was settled and the characters all had their lives put right.

I could not put this book down.  I highly recommend this story to everyone.  Romance, drama, renewal of friendships, and ghosts.  Sounds like something for everyone.  I cannot wait to see what Kathryn Knight writes next.
