Introducing Kristy Woodson Harvery & GIVEAWAY

Let me introduce you to Kristy Woodson Harvey.    She is the author of Liew and Other Acts of Love which will be released on April 5, 2016 by Berkley/Penguin Random House.

Who: Who is Kristy Woodson Harvey? I’m Kristy Woodson Harvey, a North Carolina author, wife, mother and blogger, and I am so excited to be on A Soccer Mom’s Book Blog today! Thank you so much for having me, Charlotte. I’m thrilled to be a part of your amazing corner of the internet.

What: What have you been up to?   My new novel, Lies and Other Acts of Love, is releasing on April 5, 2016, and I can’t wait! It is a story all about family secrets and the things we do to protect the people we love. I’m excited it’s coming out in plenty of time for Mother’s Day because it’s a perfect Mother’s Day gift, a true testament to a mother’s love—and two fun love stories as well. The book goes back and forth in time between the present and the 40s and 50s, so I had a great time doing research about that time period. I put my protagonist at the Waldorf Astoria in New York the day World War II was over and in Cuba at the Hotel Nacional for her honeymoon, for example. The book is mainly set in NC, but I love sending my characters on adventures!

Where: Where do you write?  I have a little office, and my husband bought me most gorgeous new marble and gold desk for my 30th birthday so I could think brilliant thoughts! I have a lucite riser that I put on top, and I stand on a balance board. I love to write standing up. It keeps me from getting tired!

When:  When do you find time to write?  My son is in preschool four mornings a week for three hours, so I usually write for an hour and a half or so of that time. If I’m on a roll, I squeeze it in on the weekends and evenings as well. It’s a bit of a balancing act, so, instead of driving myself crazy, I take a couple of months off from writing when I have a new novel coming out and am in the throes of promotion and on tour. I feel so much less stressed that way! And then I can really focus on the writing when I’m doing it.

Why: Why do you write?  I write because it is the time when I really relax and get back to myself. It is the thing I do for myself in the midst of the rest of life, the one thing that is all mine. I love creating characters and making up their stories. I can’t imagine not doing this!
