Book Review for The Wrong Bones by Melinda Leigh

The Wrong Bones by Melinda Leigh

Kindle Edition, 119 pages

Published October 25th 2022 by Montlake

Taken from Goodreads:  A frantic chase to catch a grave robber reveals a startling discovery in this tenth installment of the Widow’s Island novella series by Wall Street Journal bestselling author Melinda Leigh.

Deputy Tessa Black spots a man disturbing a grave in the local cemetery and gives chase. But when Tessa catches him, she learns that the ghoulish trespasser wasn’t robbing graves; he was burying a box of bones.

With the help of her fiancĂ©, park ranger Logan Wilde, Tessa discovers that the remains belong to a missing teenager from a nearby island. After the girl disappeared nine months ago, police labeled her a runaway. Now, though, it’s clear the teenager was murdered.

When the only witness is an uncooperative teenager, Tessa and Logan must find the killer before the boy becomes the next target.

My Thoughts:   I have read many of The Widow’s Island series but not all of them.   When I saw a novella was available, I knew that I needed to read it.   I really like that I do not have to read all the books to enjoy other books.  Each book is a stand-alone with the same setting and familiar characters, but each book has it’s own story and a finished ending.

In The Wrong Bones, Tessa and Logan are solving a local crime that starts in the cemetery.  There were many clues and not a lot of surprises until the end.   I thought I had it figured out, but I did not quite have it all put together.

Melinda Leigh did a great job writing a fun novella.   She told the whole story in just over 100 pages and I love it.

Audiobook Review for Always Her Love by Melissa Foster

 Always Her Love: Levi Steele

The Steeles at Silver Island, Book 4

By: Melissa Foster

Narrated by: Aidan SnowAva Erickson

Length: 11 hrs and 45 mins

Some fates are too tempting to deny....

If you love single-parent romances, you won’t want to miss Always Her Love, an emotionally gripping, funny, and sinfully hot story of forbidden love, with a much deserved and epic happily ever after. Fall in love on the sandy shores of Silver Island, home to coffee shops, boat races, midnight rendezvous, and the sexy, sharp-witted Steeles. They have a penchant for pranks, a passion for loyalty, and a trunk full of secrets. All Steele novels may be enjoyed as stand-alone romances.

In Always Her Love

“I'm pregnant. It’s yours. I’m having it, and unless you want it, I’m putting it up for adoption.” Those were the words that changed Levi Steele’s life before he was even legally allowed to drink. There was never any question about whether he would keep his daughter, and eight years later, he doesn’t have a single regret. He owns a successful contracting company, he’s part of the Dark Knights motorcycle club, and Joey’s happiness is his top priority. None of that would be possible without the help of Joey’s beautiful and selfless aunt Tara, who’s going to be staying with them over spring break and who he’s been thinking about in ways he shouldn’t. But Tara’s older sister is Joey’s birth mother, and she’s the last woman the dirty-talking biker should want to get his hands on.

Tara Osten has been crushing on Levi for as long as she can remember. He’s a loving father, a loyal friend, someone with whom she can always be herself, and six-plus feet of deliciously hard, tattooed muscle. At 24, she’s finally realized he will never see her as more than his baby mama’s younger sister. It’s time to let go of her lustful fantasies starring Levi Steele and move on with her life. Step one: Buy her own place and start dating. Step two: Survive spring break without falling harder for the one man she can never have.

Discover the magic of New York Times best-selling author Melissa Foster's writing and see why millions of readers and listeners have fallen in love with the Love in Bloom big-family romance collection. Love in Bloom novels are written to stand alone or may be enjoyed as part of the larger series, so dive right into this fun, sexy romance.

Audiobook Review:  From the first words I heard I knew that this book was going to pull at my heart strings.   Aidan Snow and Ava Erickson brought Levi and Tara’s story to life.  They used their amazing voices to tell the story of a single dad and the aunt found their way out of friendship into so much more.   Melissa Foster has the best narrators.

eBook Review:  Oh Melissa, the stories you write.   Always Her Love is the story of single dad Levi and his friend Tara.   Tara has had a crush on Levi forever but has kept her feelings in check for fear of losing him as a friend.  I LOVE watching Levi realize his feelings for Tara and then carefully convincing her that he was worth the risk.  I did have to remind myself that they were long time friends a couple times as it seemed their relationship moved quickly but their relationship started with them in love with each other already.

Joey, Levi’s little girl, is adorable.  I really enjoyed her part in their story.   Her innocence at Levi and Tara’s relationship, her total love for Tara, and her love of life is infectious.  Every scene that she appeared in is my favorite.  I waited to see what her reaction would be or what she would say.  She may be the biggest part of the love between Levi and Tara.

Always Her Love is a great addition to Melissa Foster’s Steele’s at Silver Island series.   The best part, that each book is their own story.  You can read them in an order.  I recommend picking up your own copy.

Book Review for Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

 Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow

by  Gabrielle Zevin

Genre:  Literary Fiction

Hardcover, 416 pages

Published July 5th 2022 by Knopf Publishing Group

Taken from Goodreads:  In this exhilarating novel by the best-selling author of The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry two friends--often in love, but never lovers--come together as creative partners in the world of video game design, where success brings them fame, joy, tragedy, duplicity, and, ultimately, a kind of immortality.

On a bitter-cold day, in the December of his junior year at Harvard, Sam Masur exits a subway car and sees, amid the hordes of people waiting on the platform, Sadie Green. He calls her name. For a moment, she pretends she hasn't heard him, but then, she turns, and a game begins: a legendary collaboration that will launch them to stardom. These friends, intimates since childhood, borrow money, beg favors, and, before even graduating college, they have created their first blockbuster, Ichigo. Overnight, the world is theirs. Not even twenty-five years old, Sam and Sadie are brilliant, successful, and rich, but these qualities won't protect them from their own creative ambitions or the betrayals of their hearts.

Spanning thirty years, from Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Venice Beach, California, and lands in between and far beyond, Gabrielle Zevin's Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow is a dazzling and intricately imagined novel that examines the multifarious nature of identity, disability, failure, the redemptive possibilities in play, and above all, our need to connect: to be loved and to love. Yes, it is a love story, but it is not one you have read before.

My Thoughts:  I am not anything close to a gamer, I play solitaire sometimes on my tablet, yet this book is wonderful.   I really enjoyed Sam and Sadie.   Their relationship of being just friends was unique and perfect.  Whether they were working together, gaming together, or just being together they understood each other, they respected each other, and they love each other.

Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow is a unique story.  I believe it will reach across many types of readers and pull in a huge crowd of readers who will all love or at least like it.   This is a story of making and playing games, a story of friendship, a story of loss and love, and a story of forgiveness.

Release Blitz for Single and Ready to Jingle by Piper Rayne

Single and Ready to Jingle by Piper Rayne is now live!

The girl who loves Christmas falls for the Grinch—it's a Christmas miracle.

What started as a dumpster fire of a blind date turns into a deal.

In truth, it probably didn't help that I showed up dressed like an elf but that's a story for another time. Our start was rocky at best which is why it's so frustrating that I can't stop thinking about his sexy British accent. Or the way his chest and arms fill out his suit. Or his perfect hair with that single streak of grey at the front.

Santa likes lists and so do I, so here's all the reasons why Andrew and I aren't right for each other:

He's my brother's best friend

He's the biggest grump I've ever met.

He hates Christmas.

That last one is big for a girl like me who thinks that the entire month of December should be a national holiday. So, when he calls for my help in planning his firm's holiday party, I can't pass up the opportunity to grow my small business. Bonus, we make a deal, and he agrees to attend three holiday events with me so I can make him fall in love with Christmas. As if I'd pass up an opportunity to make a Grinch's heart grow three times its size.

It isn't long until I discover Andrew has a very real reason to hate Christmas and I start to see him in a different light. That's when the Christmas miracle begins.

Book Review for Fernhill Lane by Kristen Proby

Fernhill Lane by Kristen Proby is now live!

From Wall Street Journal Bestselling author Kristen Proby comes a small town, second chance romance! Fernhill Lane is the newest installment in the Huckleberry Bay series!

She didn't think she'd ever come home again.

When Sarah Bitterman left Huckleberry Bay at the tender age of nineteen, newly married to a much older man, she had every intention of coming home to visit. Sadly, she quickly learned that was out of the question.

Until her husband throws her out with only the clothes on her back and finally sets Sarah free.

Coming back to the small seaside town has been the hardest thing she's ever done. Facing those who loved her the most and think she turned her back on them is almost unbearable. But she needs her two best friends, and she's longed to make amends with her little brother.

Huckleberry Bay is like the art in her soul. And now she can put down roots and begin to heal.

Tanner Hilleman knew it was a mistake to let the love of his life go all those years ago, and he's never stopped thinking about her. Now that she's home, while he's giving her the space she needs, he's also determined to make Sarah see that they belong together.

Unfortunately, Sarah's past has followed her to Huckleberry Bay and threatens to destroy everything she loves. Will she and Tanner survive it? Or will it tear them apart for good?

My Thoughts:    Sarah’s life broke my heart.  From the when she was a little girl living with horrible parents to her marriage, life never worked out for her.   The shining star is Tanner.   He was her savior in high school, until he went away to college, and they are now reconnecting.   I cheered for Tanner to continue to respect and work to understand her need for self-reliance.

Tanner and Sarah were high school sweethearts and are now reconnecting.  I felt like their relationship restarted quickly.  Maybe to quick.   Their feelings never went away but I wanted Sarah to stand on her own, be strong for herself, and not get right into a relationship. I did like how much Tanner respected her.   He did not truly know what had happen in her marriage, but he could sense that she needed to make some of her own decisions.

Fernhill is an easy book to read.   The romance is sweet and fun, the characters are easily likable, and the plot is semi-predictable.   I found Fernhill to be a book that I could enjoy without putting a lot of thought into it.   Perfect for a relaxing, take me away from life, book.
