Book Review for Simplicity by the Sea by Jennifer Vido

Simplicity by the Sea by Jennifer Vido

Published:  January 26, 2026 by Wild Rose Press

Genre:  Romance

Taken from Goodreads:  What if the perfect pairing isn't found in a bottle, but in each other?

High-powered marketing executive Delaney Huger thrives in Virginia's wine scene until a quick trip home to Gull Island for a wedding forces her to slow down. Suddenly, she's questioning the life she's built and what comes next. Can she uncork a new beginning or keep pouring into a dream that no longer fits?

Charter captain Luke Sullivan has built a quiet, predictable life on Gull Island, perfect for raising his daughter and growing his business. But when a captivating wedding guest stirs something he thought he'd buried, he wonders if it's time to change. Will he chart a new course toward love or stay safely ashore?

My Thoughts:  This is my first Jennifer Vido book.   Simplicity by the Sea is a sweet and flirty romance book.  The setting of Gull Island is perfect for the romance between Delaney and Luke.  I love the small town with the protective and loving friends.

Simplicity by the Sea is an easy book to read.   The characters are easy to relate to, the storyline flows smoothly, and the setting is beautiful.   I read the book without realizing how many pages I have read because I was pulled into the story, losing track of track.  I became committed to the characters and their lives.

Meet the Author(taken from her website):  Acclaimed author Jennifer Vido delights readers with her Gull Island series, a collection of sweet Lowcountry romances inspired by her love of coastal living and small-town charm. Her debut novel, Serendipity by the Sea, won Best First Book from the New Jersey Romance Writers Golden Leaf Contest. Her heartwarming stories have earned her local and national recognition, including back-to-back wins as Baltimore Magazine’s Best Local Author in 2024 and 2025, an Honorable Mention in The Baltimore Sun’s Best of 2024 Author category, and a spot on The Daily Record’s 2026 list of Maryland’s Top 100 Women. Through authentic characters and feel-good storytelling, Jennifer has become a beloved voice in contemporary romance.

In addition to her literary success, Jennifer is a passionate advocate for arthritis awareness. A former national spokesperson for the Arthritis Foundation, she began using her platform for advocacy after appearing on the “Reading with Ripa” roundtable alongside Kelly Ripa and bestselling author Meg Cabot. Her mission has garnered attention from national media including Lifetime TelevisionRedbook, and The New York Times. She previously served on the Foundation’s National Board and the Maryland Leadership Board, and she continues to encourage others through her work as a certified aquatics instructor, offering insight and inspiration from her personal journey with rheumatoid arthritis.

Jennifer also writes the Piper O’Donnell Social Lite Mysteries, a cozy mystery series that highlights her love of charming small towns, witty heroines, and a good whodunit. A longtime member of the Romance Writers of America, she shares her passion for books through her weekly Jen’s Jewels column on FreshFiction.com, where she interviews bestselling authors and shines a spotlight on the stories that make her heart happy.

A graduate of Vanderbilt University, Jennifer traded in her career as a French teacher to follow her dream of writing novels. She lives in Maryland with her husband, Durbin, and is the proud mom of two grown sons. Her rescue pup, Fripp, is her loyal companion, even if he’s more skilled at napping than proofreading. When she’s not writing or championing causes close to her heart, you’ll likely find her with her toes in the sand, dreaming up her next romance.
