Excerpt:
Bella started walking, and Mason fell in step beside her. For a while neither spoke, and then they both spoke at once. They stopped and turned to each other.
“Sorry,” Mason said. “Go ahead and finish what you were saying.”

“Oh, okay. I was just going to ask what you plan to tell people about that, um, kiss.”

“What do you want me to tell them?”

She frowned at him. “That’s not fair. You turned the question around on me.”

“Fine. I probably won’t tell them anything. It’s none of their business.”

She nodded as though she approved of that approach. “But why did you do it?”

Mason shifted his weight from one foot to the other. “Would you believe me if I said I got caught up in the moment?”

She shrugged. “You know, it’ll probably be in the newspaper.”

“I don’t think it was that newsworthy.” He tried his best to downplay it, but deep inside embers still burned for her.

“I was referring to the election. Everything you do is news. If you drink coffee from Fill-It-Up Joe, it’s news. If you get your hair cut, it’s news.”

“Wow! I had no idea this town was that boring. If that’s what qualifies as news, I’ve got my work cut out for me as mayor to liven things up.” But that would come after he gave their economy an infusion of new life to pump it up.

“Mason, be serious.”

“What? I am. By the way, what did they say about my last haircut? Was it a little too short in the back?”

She lightly swiped at his arm as a smile lifted her lips. “Mason, quit joking around. I don’t want everyone thinking that we’re, well, that we’re getting back together.”

First book in the Whistle Stop series:
A MOMENT TO LOVE
Series: A Whistle Stop Romance, book 1

The notorious cowboy meets his match…

Cord Lawson instantly distrusted the young woman in a smart suit who’d just arrived in Whistle Stop.  She was very pretty and clearly a city girl—but with memories of his failed marriage still darkening his mind, he’s determined to steer clear!  But she’s sniffing around his land—land that had been in his family for generations. There was no way he’d let it go—even if the bank was threatening to foreclose, and selling could give Whistle Stop a new lease on life.

Alexis Greer had one mission in mind—close the deal on the Granger estate; without it, her father’s land development company would go bankrupt.  But the word around town is to keep clear of Cord and to stay away from his precious land.  What in the world had happened to cause such a handsome cowboy to live such a solitary existence?  However, determination was Lexi’s middle name, and she just had to keep on trying to breach Cord’s barriers, appeal somehow to his head and heart—even if it put her in danger of losing both of hers…to him.

Lost in Thought (The Sententia #1) by Cara Bertrand & GIVEAWAY

This event takes place August 22 – 29, 2016

luminis facebook banner (2) Welcome to another exciting tour with Novel Publicity. This time with author Cara Bertrand and her series The Sententia & the release of the third book in the series, Tangled Thoughts! This tour is classic Novel Publicity event, featuring a rafflecopter with special swag, paperbacks from the author and an Amazon gift card as well as spotlight posts, reviews from bloggers and more! Since this book is a series, we’ve recruited bloggers and readers from around the web to read and review all the Sententia books & help the author celebrate the release of Book 3, Tangled Thoughts!

lost in thoughtBook 1: Lost in Thought Lainey Young has a secret: she’s going crazy. Everyone else thinks she has severe migraines from stress and exhaustion. What she really has are visions of how people died—or are going to die. Not that she tells anyone that. At age 16, she prefers keeping her crazy to herself. When doctors insist she needs a new and stable environment to recover, Lainey’s game to spend two years at a private New England boarding school. She doesn’t really think it will cure her problem, and she’s half right. There is no cure, but as she discovers, she’s not actually crazy. Almost everyone at Northbrook Academy has a secret too. Half the students and nearly all the staff are members of the Sententia, a hidden society of the psychically gifted. A vision of another student’s impending death confirms Lainey is one of them. She’d like to return the crappy gift of divining deaths with only a touch, but enjoys spending time with Carter Penrose—recent Academy graduate and resident school crush—while learning to control it. Lainey’s finally getting comfortable with her ability, and with Carter, when they uncover her true Sententia heritage. Now she has a real secret. Once it’s spilled, she’ll be forced to forget protecting secrets and start protecting herself.

My Thoughts…

When you start a new series you never know what to expect.    Lost in Thought is book one in The Sententia series by Cara Bertrand.    I love a good paranormal story and was hoping this would be exactly that.  I am happy to report that it is!     Lost in Thought is a YA Paranormal story that has everything I was hoping for and more.

The unique part of this story is that there is no mystery as to who is paranormal and who is not.     Cara Bertrand starts the book out giving the reader the information needed to know who Lainey is and why she is at Northbrook Academy.    I enjoyed knowing right away what was going on.    There was no guessing.     Yet, as I read there was so much more to her story that what was told in the beginning.

The relationships between Lainey and Carter was so teenage like.   Even though they were living a secret lifestyle they had a teenage relationship.   The disagreements, the dates, and the time together was portrayed exactly as it should be.    The author did a great job in keeping them young while not making them childish.

I recommend this to any paranormal reader who is looking for a book that will keep you guessing, reading, and enjoying every page.     There is secrets,  teenage drama, romance, and so much more within this story.    Lost in Thought is the first book in what I anticipate being a great series.

Book 2: Second Thoughts

second thoughtsThe continuing adventures of an ordinary teenage girl with extraordinary mental abilities, perfect for readers who love books and series such as Vampire Academy, Spellbound, and Sweet Peril. Secrets, lies, and looming deaths—all things Lainey Young deals with in a typical day of high school. In her senior year at Northbrook Academy—a New England boarding school where the majority of the students and nearly all the staff are members of the Sententia, a hidden society of the psychically gifted—Lainey has even more to worry about. Things like classes, college, her boyfriend, and, of course, the vision she glimpsed of her impending death. But to her surprise, Lainey finds one worry she can cross off her list, namely Senator Daniel Astor, the leader of the Sententia. After a shocking discovery when they finally meet, Lainey realizes maybe she was wrong to distrust the Senator. She relaxes even further when he seems to accept her refusal to work for him after graduation. But with her secrets mounting and the time to solve them running out, there’s a final enigma Lainey hasn’t yet encountered: Daniel Astor doesn’t take no for an answer. Ever.

Book 3: Tangled Thoughts

tangled thoughtsHigh school graduation is a time for goodbyes, new beginnings, and if you’re Lainey Young, narrowly escaping with your life. Forced to leave behind both Northbrook Academy and Carter Penrose, Lainey believes she’s earned her freedom—from the eyes of the Perceptum and Daniel Astor’s schemes. Meeting handsome and very persistent Teaching Assistant Jack Kensington the first week of college complicates everything, including her feelings. College and flirtations with Jack help Lainey put all things Sententia behind her. But when her aunt arrives for a visit, with an unexpected guest and even more unexpected news, Lainey’s tenuous control over her life snaps. Once again, she’s linked to everything she thought she left behind. And this time, there’s no escape. Growing up, Carter Penrose thought he knew a thing or two about heartbreak—namely that it sucks—but he never knew exactly how much until losing Lainey. His life moves in a totally unplanned direction and he finds himself with a new home, new job, and even a surprising new girlfriend, all thanks to Daniel Astor. But just when Carter feels settled in the DC world of politics, a visit home to Northbrook brings up unexpected questions—about what happened at graduation and everything he believed about his Uncle Dan. When tragedy brings Lainey and Carter face to face for the first time since summer, their lives have never felt more separate. Lies drove them apart. Will the truth bring them together?

The Last Treasure by Erika Marks

Paperback, 368 pages
Published August 2nd 2016 by NAL

From the author of It Comes in Waves and The Guest House comes a novel of three lives entangled in the secrets of the sea and the enduring bonds of love.

As students with a shared passion for shipwrecks, Liv, Sam, and Whit formed a close bond searching for the mysterious Patriot, a schooner that disappeared off the Carolina Coast in 1812 with Aaron Burr’s daughter Theodosia aboard. But as the elusive ship drew them together, love would bring them even closer—and ultimately tear them apart.

It’s been seven years since Liv left Sam to be with Whit, and the once close-knit triowent their separate ways. Liv has given up her obsession with Theodosia Burr to focus on her career as a salvage diver and her passionate but troubled marriage to the reckless and hedonistic Whit. But when a diary of Theodosia’s is discovered in a collector’s estate, she is pulled back to the world of the Patriot, this time with startling new clues to what might have really happened.

Diving back into the lost history of the Patriot could be just what Liv needs to find closure to a mystery that still haunts her. But when she and Whit reunite with Sam for one last salvage in North Carolina’s Outer Banks, buried romantic tensions begin to resurface, and once again Liv must choose between two men with very different hearts.

My Thoughts…

The history, the facts, and the story all pulled me right into the story of Theo.     Liv is obsessed with Theodosia Burr and what happen to her.     She pulls both Sam and Whit into her search for what happen to Theo.     While the history is interesting and I learned so much about a person that I didn’t even know existed before I picked up The Last Treasure, I really enjoyed the dynamics between Liv, Sam, and Whit.

The odd trio work meet in college and end up working together to search shipwrecks.  I was interested in who Liv would end up with.   Would she be better matched with Sam or Whit?      Erika Marks did a great job showing how a relationship could or would be with each of the guys.    I am still on the fence as to who is better with Liv but I am sure there is a true love winner in this trio.

I really liked was how true Liv stayed true to herself.    She grew up without a mother and with a father who was extremely demanding of her time and attention yet she was able to learn to stand up for herself, stand on her own two feet, and blaze her own trail in life.   She did not let those saying she couldn’t, shouldn’t, or wouldn’t be able to dive, find out the truth, or live her own life pull her down or push her off her path.

The Last Treasure is a romance, but more than that I felt it was a mystery.   A mystery of what happen to Theo and what Liv’s future is.    I recommend picking it up.

Loving His Forever by LeAnn Ashers

Title: Loving His Forever
Author: LeAnn Ashers
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Release Date: August 18, 2016
Braelyn
I'm nobody. Homeless, afraid of my own shadow and haunted by memories. I went through the motions, but I wasn't living. Until him. He made me live again. He became my everything. Until he came back. The man that caused me to live in my own personal hell for years.
Ethan
Brae is broken. She's haunted by memories. I saw the fire in her eyes flicker and it was enough. It consumed me. I was determined to see her thrive. I didn't expect to fall in love with her and that it would become everything. Nothing will stop me from protecting her. He will pay for her pain.

My Thoughts…

Poor Braelyn.    She is abused as a child, abused as an adult, and then ends up homeless.     Of course there is a hero.   Ethan sweeps in and protects her.    The alpha male does everything in his power to make her feel safe again.   I really liked that Ethan not only protects her but he makes her strong.    He pushes her to stand on her own two feet, make decision, and start living again.      It would have been easy to put her in a box, or his house, and keep her there forever.      Yet, he knows that would not be any kind of life.      Their relationship, while hot and steamy most of the time, is one of growing trust and mutual respect.

I enjoyed that LeAnn Asher wrote the book from two perspectives.    Braelyn tells her story and what is happening in her life and then Ethan gets to tell his story.   A lot of the time they are telling about the same incident.  There are times that they are telling their histories and why they act, react, or just are the way they are.      It is unique to get a man’s point of view within a romance story.

There were a few things that bothered me.    It seemed that every character in this book had a bad history.   No one grew up in a “normal” life.     With each person Braelyn meets there is a torrid history.   I was craving a person who grew up not being abused, left behind, or any other problem.     I get that everyone has a history.   Everyone has problems; just not everyone has to have such a violent history.     This is really my only whine about the book.

The other characters in this book are screaming for their own stories and I have a feeling that LeAnn Ashers is going to bring those to her readers soon.     I can’t wait to read what the rest of this crew have going on.

“EEEKKK!!! Just freaking WOW!!! **sigh** Ms. LeAnn nailed it again!” ~5 Star Review by Ms. Me28
“Ms. Ashers will have you enthralled from start to finish with Loving His Forever and wanting to read the next book…” ~5 Star Review by April (Goodreads)

Another Brooklyn by Jacqueline Woodson

About Another Brooklyn

Another Brooklyn cover• Hardcover: 192 pages
 • Publisher: Amistad (August 9, 2016)

The acclaimed New York Times bestselling and National Book Award–winning author of Brown Girl Dreaming delivers her first adult novel in twenty years. Running into a long-ago friend sets memory from the 1970s in motion for August, transporting her to a time and a place where friendship was everything—until it wasn't. For August and her girls, sharing confidences as they ambled through neighborhood streets, Brooklyn was a place where they believed that they were beautiful, talented, brilliant—a part of a future that belonged to them. But beneath the hopeful veneer, there was another Brooklyn, a dangerous place where grown men reached for innocent girls in dark hallways, where ghosts haunted the night, where mothers disappeared. A world where madness was just a sunset away and fathers found hope in religion. Like Louise Meriwether's Daddy Was a Number Runner and Dorothy Allison's Bastard Out of Carolina, Jacqueline Woodson's Another Brooklyn heartbreakingly illuminates the formative time when childhood gives way to adulthood—the promise and peril of growing up—and exquisitely renders a powerful, indelible, and fleeting friendship that united four young lives.

My Thoughts…

Another Brooklyn is such a unique book.   The style that Jacqueline Woodson uses while telling the story of Gigi, Angela, August, and Sylvia is not the typical book format.    There are flashbacks to the life that was and how they became who they are today.

This book is told from the perspective of a young black girl growing up in Brooklyn.    There are horrors that no young girl should have to know about much less deal with that is in the everyday life of these girls.     The loss of a mother, the murders of white women, and the drugs are just a few that stuck with me.      One thing I did like is the parents.     Most of the adults in this book are responsible and take care of their children.    The parents treat the girls like the ages that they are, keeping them inside when it is not safe, guiding them to become successful by going to school, and checking out who their friends are.

While this is not my usual type of read it was interesting to get a glimpse into the lives of those living in Brooklyn, NY during the 1970’s.   It is a place I have never visited yet I could see the fire hydrants spraying water in the heat,  the apartments with the windows cracked and people sitting at them, and I could picture the people walking the sidewalks looking up at the different apartments.     The descriptions were realistic making it easy to get pulled into the story.   I would recommend picking up your own copy

Praise for Another Brooklyn

Another Brooklyn is a sort of fever dream, containing both the hard truths of life and the gentle beauty of memory. The story of a young girl trying to find herself in the midst of so many conflicting influences and desires swallowed me whole. Jacqueline Woodson has such an original vision, such a singular voice. I loved this book.” — Ann Patchett, New York Times Bestselling Author

“The novel’s richness defies its slim page count. In her poet’s prose, Woodson not only shows us backward-glancing August attempting to stave off growing up and the pains that betray youth, she also wonders how we dream of a life parallel to the one we’re living.” — Booklist (Starred Review)

“Woodson crafts a haunting coming-of-age story of four best friends in Brooklyn, New York...Here is an exploration of family—both the ones we are born into and the ones we make for ourselves—and all the many ways we try to care for these people we love so much, sometimes succeeding, sometimes failing. A stunning achievement from one of the quietly great masters of our time.” — Kirkus Reviews, Starred Review

“Woodson…combines grit and beauty in a series of stunning vignettes, painting a vivid mural of what it was like to grow up African-American in Brooklyn during the 1970s…Woodson draws on all the senses to trace the milestones in a woman’s life and how her early experiences shaped her identity.” — Publishers Weekly, (Boxed and Starred Review)

“With spare yet poetic writing, this long-awaited adult novel by National Book Award winner Woodson (Brown Girl Dreaming) is a series of vignettes narrated by August, shortly after her dad’s funeral and a chance encounter with an old friend.” — Library Journal (starred review)

Chased by Love by Melissa Foster & GIVEAWAY

NEW RELEASE........

Chased by Love, Love in Bloom: The Ryders #3

Actress Trish Ryder takes her job seriously and has no time for those who don't. When she's awarded a major role in a new movie featuring America's hottest rock star, Boone Stryker, she's beyond excited. The six-two, tattooed hunk of burning desire is known for his dedication to his craft--but when he ditches their first meeting, she begins to wonder if he's just another rocker with a great PR team.

Sex, booze, women, and music pretty much sum up Boone Stryker's private world. He's coasted through life playing by his own rules with plenty of people willing to cover his tracks, and he's not likely to change--until he meets a woman who refuses to give him the time of day, much less anything more.

Sparks fly from the first moment Trish and Boone meet--Tensions run hot and desire runs hotter when they're trapped together on a remote location with no place to hide. Will sparks ignite, or will a hurricane douse the flames?

My Thoughts...

Oh how I love this series.   With each book I get to know another wonderful, loving, and charismatic couple and wish they were my friends.     Chased by Love is the story of Trish and Boone.   Both in the entertainment industry they lead lives that most people only read about in magazines or watch on TV.    Together they are an unlikely match.   I felt like of all of the couples Melissa Foster has introduced the reader to Trish and Boone are the mostly unlikely to be together.   Yet, they fit.    They complimented each other, they understood the pressure that the other was on with their work, they had a great family and friend support system, and they trusted each other.

There are so many characters in this book that deserve their own story that I am not sure who to ask for next.     I want to know more about Lucky, Boone’s brother, and Raine, Boone’s mother.    I think it would be interesting to know more about Raine since she is an older character who has suffered the loss of her husband and is deserving of a second chance at love.   Lucky just seems like a good bad boy who would have an interesting take on falling in love.      I am beyond excited that Jake’s, Trish’s brother, story will be told next.    This Ryder family certainly keeps everyone’s lives interesting.

My favorite part of this book is the epilogue.     The wedding of Duke and Gabriella is the peak of the story for me.    The glimpse into the lives of the rest of the Ryder family at this wedding gave me a chance to catch up on who is married, who has a baby, who is pregnant, and who is still looking for their love.      I always love to catch up with past characters.

As always, I recommend this book to anyone looking for a quick read with romance, love, and steamy scenes.
