My Thoughts…. 

Oh My Gosh.    A Bird on a Windowsill is a book that pulled at my heart throughout the entire story.    From the first page when a young girl meets a young boy and ask if he was hers I was invested.   I wanted to be part of the story seeing the friendship develop, seeing the feelings grow, and watching these two wonderful children become what they were meant to be.   

The story is not complex.    It is a story of best friends that have the potential of becoming more.    The story of two young people trying to figure out life.    It is sweet, loving, beautiful, and simple.  

 Vannah and Eben are lifelong friends.    Every memory of growing up includes them being together.   I am not sure I have ever read a book that was more true to friendship.   They were friends, best friends, for so long that it was impossible for them not to have stronger feelings.     I was torn on whether I wanted them to take the next step.   Would moving on change the relationship for the better or the worse?   All the way to the end I could not decide.  

I am a fan of Laura Millers.  Laura has to put her entire heart into each book and it shows in her writing.      I highly recommend picking up your copy of A Bird on a Windowsill immediately.

My Thoughts…

The Tumbling Turner Sisters is entertainment in words.    I love the vaudeville aspect of the story.   The traveling, the shows, the performers, and of course the drama is all part of the charm of the book.     I enjoyed the interactions between the Turner family and the different performers.    The timeframe made some friendships taboo, yet Juliette Fay did not shy away from developing them.     The ages of the performers made me concerned at some friendships yet they seemed to work.    

My biggest worry in this story is the mother.    I know that she was doing what she could for her family but she was so into herself.    I believe she was a mother entirely living her past dreams through her children.     There were times that she seemed to forget she was a mother and a wife.   

Juliette Fay most certainly did her research.    The stage house they worked in were real.   The issues of prohibition, women’s rights, and racism were happening during this time.    The reading of The Tumbling Turner Sisters brought me back in time to a wonderful era.   

If you love a good vaudeville story this is definitely for you.

My Thoughts…

The Cavendon Luck is the third book in the Cavendon Hall series.    I read them in order and am torn as to whether they have to be read in order.    I liked knowing the history of the family and their friends but I feel like I could have picked up any of the books, in any order, and enjoyed them.   

 

The third book is my favorite.    The era of WWII and how the world is living during the war is portrayed wonderfully.     The world was not an easy place to live in and everyone, even the royalty, had to adjust their lifestyles.    I really enjoyed seeing how the Ingham and Swann families prepared for the war and how they helped keep their possessions safe.    The way they came together from all over the world to keep each other safe, support each other, and just be together was heartwarming.  

I was especially proud and invested in the women in this book.    They came together, worked hard, and made the best of a horrid happening.   They were the heroes of the Cavendon Hall.    They made food and clothes.   They gave support to the men, both those fighting and those not fighting.    When the book was done I continued to think about the Dee’s, Charlotte, and Cecily.     It is amazing that in a time when men were in charge these women stepped up did what had to be done and still stayed feminine. 

I recommend checking out this series.      The books have a lot of pages in them but are worth reading every word.   Barbara Taylor Bradford has a way with words that just pull you right into the story.

My Thoughts…

Flight Patterns is such a wonderful Southern story.  There is a complex and difficult family dynamic set in Florida.   I enjoyed the two different timelines shared in the story.     

The current story tells of Georgia returning to her family after being apart for 10 years.     Maisy, Georgia’s sister, has been at the home this whole time raising her daughter, Becky, and taking care of her mother, Birdie, and her grandfather.    There is a history between Georgia and Maisy that needs to be taken care of before they can continue to live their lives.  The story between them is wonderful and perfectly told.    I could feel the love between them and the want/need for them to reconnect and become the sisters they were growing up.  

The second timeline is Birdie’s to tell.     She does not speak at this time and no one knows why.    Well, almost no one.     Her daughters want to find out what happen to cause her to go into herself and stop communicating.     I found it interesting that the ONLY person she would communicate with is her granddaughter, Becky.    There were times when Birdie was telling her story and I wondered if she was remembering it correctly and when she would be able to share it with the rest of her family. 

Flight Patterns is amazing.   I can say that I know more about bees and their habits than I probably will ever need to know.    I highly recommend this sweet, tender, and beautiful southern charm story.

My Thoughts…

It is hard to write a review for an 11 page short story.    With It’s Complicated I flew through those few pages.    I was looking forward to the werewolf story.   While it was there this was more the story of a person doing wrong against someone protected by the pack and Sally getting revenge.     I saw it coming and it happened.    

I have not read any of the Redcliffe Novels and am not familiar with them at all.   I would recommend checking them out before reading It’s Complicated just to get a better feel for the pack dynamic.   I am a fan of short story accompanies to full fledged novels.   I find it fun and sometimes useful to find out what the characters are up to.

My Thoughts…

I love a good series.    Helen Grace is a series yet each book can be read as a standalone.     The characters (Helen Grace) appears in each one but each story is its own crime to solve.   Liar Liar is a thriller with plenty of actions, lots of surprises, and a ton of action.    Sounds perfect, it is! 

DI Helen Grace is an amazing character.     She is a complex woman, working in a man’s world, and solving horrible crimes.       In this book she is trying to find a serial arsonist.     There is a race against time and even when the newspaper journalist starts writing stories about how she is failing to do her job she never strays from the path.    She knows the route needed to find the perpetrator and does what needs to be done to solve the crime. 

I love the format that M.J. Arlidge uses.    The short chapters, broke into different characters and events, make the book easy to read.   The story moves so quickly that it seemed I had just started it and I was already done.      It was interesting to read the different points of view and different happenings of the same timeframes.     

The ending… oh the ending.   I am not sure what I am thinking more of.    The person who was guilty of the arsons and how they were caught or the hint at the next book in this series. 

This is an amazing book.   I have recommended past Helen Grace books and cannot wait to share my thoughts on this one to my fellow thriller/suspense readers.

My Thoughts…

Oh Boyd.  You melted my heart.     I felt like Boyd should be a tough, hard to reach, bad boy fireman.    He tried to be but he failed.    He is so soft, cuddly, lovable, and needing love that I could not help by fall for him.     Touched by Love is his story.   Sure Janie is in it, there has to be a woman to fall for, but this book is all about Boyd.     This is the story of a boy who lost his parents and took on the roll of mother and father to his siblings.    It is the story of a man who has never properly dealt with the loss of his parents.    This is the story of a man who will do anything to protect, guide, and love those who are dearest to him.

Janie is in need of a rescue and Boyd is in the right place at the right time to rescue her.   She pushed him away, he pushes himself closer to her, the tug of war was so fun to watch.   I knew it would be equally gratifying for them both when they came to accept they were meant for each other.      There was no disappointment when they did finally realize that they had to be together.  

I was incredibly impressed by the way Janie was portrayed.  Being blind could be seen as a handicap but in Melissa Foster’s world it is appreciated and enhances the sense of Janie.    She knows her limitations and then says she can surpass them all.    She asks for help when she absolutely has to and pushes away help when she knows she can do it on her own.      I loved how Janie called people out on treating her differently and expected no special treatment due to her lack of sight.   

I have read all the Love in Bloom books thus far and always look forward to more.   The characters make appearances in each other books but each book is a standalone story.    I recommend picking up Boyd and Janie’s story then going back and picking up the rest of this series.    They are all amazing.
