She's a biker chick with an edge.
Daughter of an MC president, Trix Slade is used to living on the wild side, but nothing prepares her for being kidnapped by the Grim Bastards MC. Hellbent on getting back home, Trix will do anything to get away from her captors--anything. There’s only one problem, Boz is as sexy as he is wild-- a tempting combination for a woman like Trix.
He's a bastard with a soul.
The Bastards’ president, Boz Creed, wants to bring Trix’s father down and knows the best way to get to him is by using his precious daughter. Determined to get the revenge he seeks, Boz is willing to do anything to get what he wants--anything. There’s only one problem, Trix is as sexy as she is stubborn--a deadly combination for a man like Boz.
Can love between two rival clubs survive without someone taking the ultimate fall?

His hand slowly moves down, pushing my hair back.  Then, he slides his fingers through my long locks, before grabbing the back of my neck.  There is something about his touch that is different this time.  It’s gentle but also electrifying, sending a zap of pure energy through my body.  It’s also possesive, as if he is marking me as his own. I want to be his, more than I’ve ever wanted anything in the world.
Grabbing my hand, he asks, “Are you sure about this?”
“Yeah,” I mumble, fear creeping into my voice.
As much as I want him, my mind is running in overdrive. Being a virgin, and the daughter of an MC President, I have very little experience with this shit.  Other than a few kisses from high school boys brave enough to risk my father’s wrath, I’m completely naïve about this stuff.  Well, as naïve as a girl that grew up in a biker clubhouse can be. I’ve always wanted Boz, even dreamed that he would be my first, maybe only.  But now that it’s about to happen, my ass is freaking out in a major way.
“Don’t be nervous.  Nothing will happen that you don’t want to,” he says, reading my mood.
He then takes my hand and leads me into the treeline behind the clubhouse.  With each step we take, the sounds of the party grow more faint. The only light is the shining of the moon, making it seem as if we are in a world of our own.  We walk in silence for a few minutes, until we come to a clearing just beside a creek. It’s a place I know well.
He takes the blanket from me, and as he spreads it out on the ground, he says, “No one should bother us here.”
My eyes stare at the moonlight reflecting off the water and ask, “How did you know this place was here?”
“Your dad showed it to me a while back.  The fucker made me go fishing with him,” Boz says, surprising the shit out of me.
This spot has always been special to me; it reminds me of Mom.  We lost her to breast cancer, not long after I met Boz for the first time.  Losing her nearly killed Dad and me both.  Being here brings back a ton of wonderful memories of her and our family.  It’s where my mom taught me to swim, where we would have tea parties and talk about girly crap.  It’s also a place my dad would take us, just to get away from the club for a few minutes.  He said it was our spot, a place for our family to be together.  The last time Dad brought me here was the day after Mom’s funeral.  We sat by the creek, and I cried in his arms until I fell asleep.
“I know it’s no fancy bed, but I always liked it out here,” Boz says as he sits down and pulls me down beside him.  “I hope you’re okay being out here.”
The sound of crickets chirping reaches my ears as a huge smile spreads across my face. I’m more than okay; I’m absolutely estatic.  I have the man of my dreams by my side, and we are in the most beautiful place God ever created.  How could it get any better?
I look up at him and, with all honesty, say, “I think it’s perfect.”
He raises his hand and runs his thumb along my cheek. “Good.  A woman like you deserves perfection.”
I know he’s running a game on me.  I can tell that these are lines he’s used a million times before.  Still, it doesn’t matter.  He is saying everything I need to hear, everything I’ve ever dreamed he would say. I want more, more of him.
He then leans down and places his lips on mine, igniting a fire deep inside me. A nearly silent whimper escapes me, allowing his tongue to sneak inside.  His lips are aggressive and fierce, his tongue gliding against mine as he devours me.  It goes on and on, before he finally pulls back and leans his forehead against mine.
“You taste fucking amazing,” he says with a groan.
Not guarding my words, I tell him, “I will remember that kiss for the rest of my life. I will never forget the way your tongue feels when it’s wrapped around mine.”
He lifts his head just a little and simply stares at me for a second, as if he can’t beleive what I just said.  Finally, his lips come back to mine.  He slowly pushes me backwards, until I am laying flat on the blanket, and continues to kiss me as his body comes down on mine.    We kiss for a few minutes, our hands all over each other.  Touching and caressing, we get as close as we can to each other with our clothes still on.
Finally, he starts to lift my shirt.  As soon as his hand touches my stomach, I go wild.  Sitting up, I pull off my shirt. I do the same to him, trying to jerk his shirt off.
“Slow down, darlin’,” he says, slipping off his cut and tossing it on the edge of the blanket.
He then pulls off his shirt, giving me my first glimpse of his ink-covered chest.   I reach out to touch the massive Grim Bastard tat, but he stops me, going in for another kiss.  At the same time, he reaches up and rubs his hand along the seam of my bra, barely touching my breast.
Slipping a finger inside the cup, he whispers, “So fucking beautiful.”
He reaches around and unsnaps it, allowing my bra to drop to the ground.  “Oh yeah, more beautiful than I ever imagined.”
His lips meet mine again, stealing my breath away.  His hand caresses my breast as he takes my puckered nipple in between his fingers and squeezes, before giving it a twist.  My pussy convulses with anticipation of what’s to come.  I am soaking wet with desire. Unable to stop myself, I rub my thighs together just to get a little friction.
He tightens his fingers on my nipple and says, “Fuck, darlin’, you’re gonna have to quit doing that. I can feel the heat coming off of that sweet little pussy everytime you move.  My dick is already so damn hard, it’s about to bust out of my pants.”
“I want you.”  I reach down and rub my hand over his jean-covered cock.
At first contact, fear starts to fill me again.  He’s hard as hell and so fucking huge.  I may have never touched a dick before, but I’ve seen my fair share around the clubhouse.  None have been this big. The thought of him trying to fit in my body is as terrifying as it is exciting.
My hand works up and down his length, squeezing tight each time I come to the tip.  With each squeeze, he lets out a grunt.  The sound is driving me insane with need.  He pulls back enough to unbutton my jeans.  He slides them down, taking my panties with them.  As soon as they join my other clothes, he comes back down on me.
As his tongue invades my mouth once again, a moan of pure pleasure escapes me.  As if he knows what I need, his hand slides between my legs, tweaking my clit.  Instinctively, I lift my hips to meet his searching fingers.  I need his cock to be inside me.
When he finally rubs his fingers in between my folds, he mumbles, “Fuck, Trix.  Your pussy is soaking wet.  I can’t wait to feel it wrapped around my dick.”
“Please,” I beg, not quite sure what I am asking for.
One of his fingers enters me, curling up to touch the bundle of nerves hidden deep inside. It feels so damn good I almost come from the pressure alone.  As he slides his finger in and out, he uses his thumb to rub small circles over my clit.  Unable to hold back a minute more, I let out a long moan.
I grab onto both of his shoulders and pull him toward me, needing his lips on mine.  As his tongue enters my mouth again, he pushes another finger inside, stretching me to my limits.  My hips keep moving against his hand, until fireworks explode in my body.
As my pussy convulses around his fingers, he groans.  “Your pussy is so fucking tight.  I’m afraid I’m going to hurt you.”
Placing my lips on his, I say, “I need you inside me now.”
He kisses me one more time before getting up to unbutton his jeans.  “I’d like nothing more, darlin’.”
After he gets his pants unsnapped and the zipper down, he kicks off his boots.  Just as he starts to push his jeans down, the sound of someone walking through the woods hits my ear.  “Boz, brother, get your ass back to the club house.”
Boz stops, zips his pants back. “What the fuck?” Reaching over for his tee, he hands it to me.  “Put that on, darlin’.”
“Who is that?” I ask, covering myself up as quickly as possible.
He just shakes his head, before walking to the edge of the clearing and shouting, “What the hell do you need, Round?”
I hear heavy footfalls hitting the ground, just before an older man steps into the clearing.  He doesn’t even bother to look at me as he says, “It’s your dad.”
“What the fuck did he do now?” Boz asks, walking back to the blanket and shoving his boots back on.  “You do know I’m not his keeper, right?”
The older man doesn’t answer, just turns around and starts back to the clubhouse.  Over his shoulder he says, “Hurry the fuck up.  He’s hurt bad.”
Leaving me without a word, Boz takes off at a run.  I jump up, pull on my jeans and head after him, not even bothering with the rest of our stuff.  As soon as I step into the clubhouse, I see Boz in my dad’s face.
When I get close enough, I hear Boz talking in a menacing whisper.  “Who the fuck shot him?”
It’s at that moment, I see Boz’s dad lying on the floor, his vacant eyes staring at the ceiling.  His chest is covered in blood, and there is no doubt in my mind that he has drawn his last breath.  Unable to hold it back, my stomach revolts.  Leaning forward, I heave today’s lunch onto the floor. One of the old ladies comes over and grabs my shoulders, pulling me into her arms.  She leads me out of the room, away from the dead body.
Just as we step outside, I hear Boz shout,  “I asked you a fucking question.  Who shot my father?”
“I don’t know,” Dad says with a shake of his head.  “He’s been running his mouth all damn night, putting his hands on the old ladies.  You know this shit was bound to happen sooner or later.”
That’s the last I hear before I am jerked outside.  Peeking at Boz just before the door closes, I see his eyes on me.  From the look on his face, I can tell that any chance we had is gone.

Soul of a Crow (Dove #2) by Abbie Williams

Paperback, 384 pages
Expected publication: June 1st 2016 by Central Avenue Publishing

It is 1868. The country is still reeling from the brutal effects of the Civil War, just a few short years earlier. Lorie Blake, a beautiful young woman orphaned by the War, and who escaped the miserable prison of her life as a prostitute in a Missouri whorehouse, now takes wing, embarking on a breathtaking overland journey northwest. With Lorie is her newfound family – brothers Boyd and Malcolm Carter, experienced horseman Sawyer Davis, and his beloved paint mare, Whistler. For the first time in years, there seems reason to hope. Thrown together by the circumstances of fate, and now deeply bound by love, each of them are determined to begin new lives as homesteaders in Minnesota.

But alas, the past refuses to die quietly. Former Confederate soldiers Sawyer and Boyd are haunted by the scavenger-like specters of a War that refuses to stay buried, a conflict never truly put to rest. New friends emerge and old enemies arise, as ancient hatreds boil over in the hearts of the men who survived. In the face of incredible odds, Lorie must rely upon all of the emotional strength in her soul as she battles for the life of her true love, and towards the enduring promise of a new beginning in the north.

My Thoughts…

Post Civil War we find Lorie traveling with Southern was veterans Sawyer and Boyd and Malcolm, Boyd’s brother towards Minnesota.   This is the second book in the Dove series and continues where book one ended.     Soul of a Crow is not a Civil War story it is the story of prejudices against southerners by northerners and northerners against southerners.    It is also the story of love.    The love between Sawyer and Lorie.    There are obstacles in their way.

I found it interesting how many things got in the way of Lorie and Sawyer’s love.   They couldn’t find a preacher to marry them, the owner of the business Lorie worked at has people chasing her to bring her back, Sawyer is accused of crimes he did not commit, and so much more.     There were times I wondered if they would ever find their happy ever after.    I don’t know that I have ever read a story with so many horrible things happening to the main characters.

When reading it a series it is sometimes hard to continue the story when there is time between the release of the first book and the second book.    I started this book after looking back at what I thought of book one (look HERE to see what I thought) and was brought right back into the characters life.    I was pulled right back into the lives and travels of these characters.     I was invested in their well being.

Abbie Williams has done her research to make the scenes realistic to the era.   The speaking was easy to follow, the characters were easy to relate to, and the storyline was wonderful.    There is a book three yet to come and I cannot wait to read more of this story.

The Civil War has ended, leaving the country with a gaping wound. Lorie Blake, a southern orphan sold into prostitution at fifteen, has carefully guarded her aching soul from the disgrace forced upon her every evening. Two years have passed, leaving her with little hope of anything more. Meanwhile, three men – longtime friends – and a young boy with a heart of gold are traveling northward, planning to rebuild their lives in the north and leave behind the horrors of their time as soldiers in the Confederate Army. Fate, however, has plans of its own, causing their lives to collide in a river town whorehouse. Forced to flee, Lorie escapes and joins them on the journey north. But danger stalks them all in the form of a vindictive whorehouse madam and an ex-Union soldier, insane and bent on exacting revenge. At last, Lorie must come to terms with her past and devastating secrets that she cannot yet bear to reveal. Heart of a Dove is the first book in a gripping, sweeping romantic saga of pain, unbearable choices, loss and true love set against the backdrop of a scarred, post-Civil War America.

Abbie Williams has been addicted to love stories ever since first sneaking her mother's copy of The Flame and the Flower. Being an avid lover of language, history and women's studies was what prompted her to pen her sweeping historical saga, The Dove series. When she isn't writing, teaching, or taking care of her busy family, you can find her hanging out on the dock, listening to some good bluegrass music.

PRAISE
**Independent Publishers Awards Gold Medalist 2015**
"Set just after the U.S. Civil War, this passionate opening volume of a projected series successfully melds historical narrative, women’s issues, and breathless romance with horsewomanship, trailside deer-gutting, and alluring smidgeons of Celtic ESP." ~ Publishers Weekly
"There is a lot I liked about this book. It didn’t pull punches, it feels period, it was filled with memorable characters and at times lovely descriptions and language. Even though there is a sequel coming, this book feels complete." ~ Dear Author
"With a sweet romance, good natured camaraderie, and a very real element of danger, this book is hard to put down." ~ San Francisco Book Review
"This story haunted me so much I gave up trying to sleep and just finished it. It’s beautifully done, even those miserable moments that were painful to follow. We experience everything through Lorie’s point of view, including the charm of her Southern roots through flashback memories as well as the rigors of the travel through the prairie. Her relationship with the three men and the young Malcolm was special, her burgeoning romance with one of them extraordinary." ~ The Book Nympho

Haunted Souls by Kathryn Knight

Kindle Edition
Expected publication: June 1st 2016 by The Wild Rose Press

Four years ago, Emily Shea and Staff Sergeant Brett Leeds agreed to part with no strings attached. Sparks flew during their brief affair, but fate intervened, sending Brett overseas. When an unexpected pregnancy derailed Emily's own plans, her attempts to locate Brett were soon overwhelmed by the challenges of single motherhood. Now, Brett has returned home, and Emily is forced to share her secret.

Despite feeling betrayed, Brett is determined to forge a relationship with their son, Tyler. As the former lovers battle both their inner demons and their mutual desire, another presence enters their lives—Tyler's imaginary friend. Soon, however, the chilling evidence points to a different conclusion: a ghost has formed a dangerous connection with their son. Emily's attempts to help both a lost soul and a friend in need spiral toward a deadly confrontation, and Brett must race to save Emily before he loses her again—forever.

My Thoughts…

I am a fan of Kathryn Knight’s other books.   Each one I have read, devoured, and loved.    Haunted Souls is the same way.   I received the book, started it, and could not put it down.    I felt like there was a bonus story in this book.     The story of Tyler and his ghost friend, Josiah, was the main story with the bonus of Emily and Brett’s love story.

The ghost story gave me goose bumps so many times.     I could not imagine being in Emily’s shoes watching her 4 year old son interact with a person only he could see.    Yet, Emily never doubted Josiah’s existence.    Josiah did not directly interact with Emily but he did let her know he was there, many times.    With each of these times I reacted in fear for Tyler and awe of how calm Emily managed to stay.     I believe I would have acted more like Brett.    The disbelief of what his son was saying and being unsure how to react.    I am thankful that Tyler had his mom to protect him, believe him, and help him get Josiah back to his mother.

Emily and Brett’s story was not unique in that a soldier comes home on break.   Girl gets pregnant and soldier goes back to war.    The difference is how Emily handled it.   Instead of freaking out, she did what she had to do to keep her baby safe.    The choices she made were not easy.   I admired how she became a single mom, struggling, yet never giving up.    I also admired how she handled Brett’s coming home and finding out about Tyler.    She didn’t place blame, in fact she shouldered more blame that she should have.   She trusted that Brett would be able to step into their life and put Tyler’s happiness first.    Brett did not disappoint either.    He became the man that both Emily and Tyler needed.    Kathryn Knight wrote their love story in very real terms.    It was not instant fall back into a relationship.   There were trust issues to deal with, histories to come to terms with, and a friendship to reestablish.    The attraction was still there, but both knew they needed more to become a family.

I certainly recommend checking out Haunted Souls.

Gull Harbor….Claire Linden is a medium.   Her job brings her to the small town of Gull Harbor to rid a home of an aggressive ghost. When she heads to the local diner she never dreams her ex would be there.

Max has put down roots in this town.    Claire has a lot of resentment and anger towards Max due to him promising to love her forever and then graduating college and leaving her with no explanation.     Of course their feelings are still there and need to be dealt with before either can be happy.

All three main characters Dan, Max, and Claire are amazing characters.   They all felt like friends.  People I would want as neighbors and friends.    Claire has to be my favorite.   Whole I do not envy her medium skills, I loved learning about her talent and watching her patience and understanding when dealing with a rather difficult ghost.

As in Kathryn Knight's first novel , Silver Lake, I could not stop reading.   This was a two day read for me only because I could not keep my eyes open any longer.

The fear I felt for Claire was real.   I was amazed at how she was able to stay calm and not run away scared.   Thank God Max and Dan  were there to ease her shaken nerves.   Although the other inhabitants of Gull Harbor left a lot to be desired , not even welcoming her to the town, I could understand why they stayed back.  A medium is a unknown to most.

Once again, I will happily recommend this book to everyone.     It has romance and paranormal my most favorite things to read of.

Divine FallAfter tragedy tears Jamie Brandt’s life apart, her only goal is to finish high school so she can leave her small hometown behind. In the meantime, riding her horse is her main source of solace, until a mysterious stable hand shows up at the barn. There’s something not quite right about the handsome new employee, and the more Jamie sees of him, the more determined she becomes to figure out what he’s hiding.

Dothan Reed came to historic Huntsville, Maryland, for one reason—revenge. But his plan can’t move forward until he finds the missing piece he needs to enhance his powers. As the only surviving Nephilim, Dothan is not only weaker than full-blooded angels; his forbidden lineage makes him an outcast in both worlds. When he discovers Jamie is the key to locating an ancient weapon, he’s forced to interact with a vulnerable human girl—a task that becomes more appealing with each encounter.

Jamie soon learns Dothan isn’t the only one with a dark secret. Each new revelation further threatens her safety, and Dothan’s betrayal shatters her heart. Forgiving him seems impossible, but the thought of turning her back on him is equally painful.

As their connection deepens, Dothan will have to make his own difficult choice: continue on his path of vengeance, or protect the girl he loves. And when Dothan’s actions thrust Jamie into an unforeseen danger, he must seek the help of his enemy…or risk losing her forever.

My Thoughts…

I love my paranormal books.  This one is quickly at the top of my must share and recommend list.     This is the third book of Kathryn Knight that I have read and each one is amazing.   This one is about angels, which is not something I read about often, but was incredibly intrigued.   As I started reading about Jamie and Dothan (love that name) I kept trying to figure out exactly what Dothan was and how Jamie played into the story.    When it was revealed how the two of them were tied together, I had that ah ha moment and could not believe it, but it all made sense and fell together.

Although Jamie and Dothan are young, the love they shared was amazing.  It was easy to see how strong and true their love was.   It was beyond the mushy, young love.   Their love was something deep.  It is not everyone who can love a Nephilim and keep their secrets.   Jamie was good for Dothan and Dothan was Jamie’s savior more than one time.

Kathryn Knight is an author that has never let me down with her books.   She is an author I am confident in always recommending.    Divine Fall is the newest of her great works and I cannot wait to have my friends read it.

Silver Lake...Five years ago, Brandy goes missing.  Her tight knit group of friends is devastated.  Now Brandy’s mom is on her deathbed and needs to know what really happen to her daughter, who has been haunting her dreams.  Brandy’s mom contacts Brandy’s friends to come back together at Silver Lake and find the truth of what has happen to Brandy.

Rain, Jason, Allie, and AJ all come together at the lake house.  Rain is recently divorced from her cheating high school boyfriend.  Jason is in a dead end relationship, waiting for the right time to end it.   Allis is happily married with twin autistic boys but is keeping a secret.  AJ comes from a very influential family where only the best is accepted and is also keeping a secret.

As they spend more time together things happen.  Doors slam, things fall off shelved, and a ghost of Brandy is seen.  The group knows the answer is out there and that Brandy is trying to lead them to her.  They just have to follow the clues to get to the answer.

Silver LakeThis is Kathryn Knight’s first published novel and all I can say is WOW!  Every character in the book is perfectly developed.  The background given is just enough without giving too much information.  By the end of the story I felt like I had been at the lake house with them all.  Hanging out and experiencing what they had.

The ghost of Brandy gave me chills many times.  The clues she left her friends kept me at the edge of my seat having to know what had happen to her.  I loved that she was more prevalent when all four friends were together.  Some of the clues threw me off as to what happen and some confirmed what I was thinking.
The ending could have gone so many ways, but I am so happy with how it was written.  I feel like everything was settled and the characters all had their lives put right.

I could not put this book down.  I highly recommend this story to everyone.  Romance, drama, renewal of friendships, and ghosts.  Sounds like something for everyone.  I cannot wait to see what Kathryn Knight writes next.

A Bet Worth Making: A Grayson County Novel (Grayson County Series Book 2) by Heather Hildenbrand

Jordan DeWalter has her future mapped out—build the most impressive architectural design portfolio in all of New England, and use it to one day open her own firm. But when her father unexpectedly passes away, her plans, and her heart, are broken. Now, if she wants the money once promised to her, she’ll have to return to the town that threw her family out over twenty years ago in order to get it.

If there’s one thing Jordan despises more than small towns, it’s small town people.

Casey Luck has spent his life skating by on charm and a devil-may-care attitude. Never one to take life too seriously, he’s kept secret his dream of building custom dirt bikes. Instead, he fills the role his family expects: tractor mechanic, farm handyman, comedic relief. But, deep down, Casey’s restless for something more.

Then he meets his new roommate: Jordan.

Their attraction is instant, but Jordan’s not fooled by the chemistry between them. When the summer is over, she’s out of here no matter what. In fact, she’s willing to bet on it.

Will their undeniable connection be the push they both need to break free of their pasts, or will Jordan’s wager on their failure ruin the future for them both?

My Thoughts…

Heather Hildenbrand has an amazing talent for writing.    Picking up A Bet Worth Making I expect a love story, with a twist, and a lot of country fun.    That is exactly what I got from the entire story.    The story of Jordan and Casey is sweet, loving, and real.    A story that could happen in real life is a story that I can relate to.   I love when a story is realistic and wonderful.

Casey and Jordan’s relationship starts with a misunderstanding and goes down from there… or goes up and to a much better place.    They fight, they flirt, they watch each other, and they try to fight their feelings for each other through almost the entire story.   I found it refreshing that the attraction was obvious from their first meeting but they didn’t just fall into bed.   It was decided that theirs was going to be more than just a quickie, at least by Casey it was.     They worked toward the relationship, they made each other be honest, and they pushed for what was important.     I felt like Casey was the “adult” in the relationship and pushed Jordan a lot, but it was necessary as Jordan was wary of everything country.

This is the second book in the series but it is a true stand alone.    There are characters that appear in both books but each book is its own story.    Of course, I recommend reading them both but at least pick up A Bet Worth Making.     Heather Hildenbrand is wonderful and talented.   I cannot wait for more.
