About Must Love Coffee

Gwen
I was stripped of all my own desires and wants when I was married to my ex-husband. I now carry a list with me—a list that will help me choose a man that will put me first in life. Then the storm cloud of an entitled millionaire appears in my life and knocks me off my axis. This man sends so many mixed signals, my body either quakes with anger or passion when I’m around him.

I'm his son's teacher and his tenant, but I find myself wanting more.

Leo
My life is run with precision with little regard for others until a woman in crazy clothes challenges me to be a better father. She’s one of the few people that puts me in my place and maybe for this very reason—I want her more than I can articulate. With her failed marriage and list of requests she needs from her next partner, I know she’s my future. My life is less than perfect, and with it—baggage that follows me everywhere. Does she want my kind of crazy in her life?

I'm her landlord and an a**hole, but  I find myself wanting more.

Where to begin? For starters, you must love coffee...

After all, 425 Madison Avenue is the perfect place to fall in love.

*Each story is completely standalone.

My Thoughts…
I love this book.    It is short, 150 pages but there is so much to love about the characters, the setting, and the story.
Gwen, a teacher to 5-year-olds,  is moving on from life with a jack-*** husband who controlled everything from what she ate, where she went, what she wore, and what she did.    She isn’t really looking for a new relationship but when sparks fly after a meeting with a student’s father she can’t seem to let it go.   Everything about her is amazing.   The fact that she is willing to give up everything to keep her daughter away from her father so that she doesn’t grow up feeling like she did when married with him.   I love that she stood up to Leo, the father of a student when he accuses her of not doing her job.   It was amazing that she had a list of things her new relationship would have to do to win her over.
Leo is trying to find his way after his ex-wife’s drug abuse became more important than his family.    Gwen wakes him up to what is important and I love that his goals change.   He becomes someone his kids are proud of and someone who is important to his friends and family.    He still works hard, he still is successful but now he realizes that there is more to life than making money.   Leo opens his eyes, his hearts, and his soul while winning over Gwen and showing her that all rich guys are not controlling.
Must Love Coffee is the first book in the 425 Madison series.   Leigh Lennon wrote a great story about love, forgiveness, and finding happiness.     I am excited to see what the rest of the authors will do with the 425 Madison setting.

Excerpt

Gwen:

Leo stands with so much force it pushes his chair over, bumping the table and knocking some of Teague’s test results to the floor.

“Mason, this teacher is clearly incompetent and I want her replaced—no, fuck that—I want her fired.”

I don’t give Mason much time to reply. I stand just as fast and, though he has a good six inches on me,  I’m in his face.

“Okay, Mr. Eastman, you want me fired so badly, answer me this. How much time do you spend with Teague each day on his homework? I’ve sent home small readers with questions to be answered each day, even if you have to write the responses for him. I’ve never gotten a completed form in return.” As I speak, the harsh teacher tone takes over and demands his attention. I don’t miss how his hands curl into fists when I continue. “I’ve sent him home with a phonetical set of flash cards and a completion sheet. After ten times, he gets a reward. I have yet to receive that back. The same goes for number recognition. So, you tell me I’m not doing my job. But, since turnabout is fair play, how are you doing on your end? It takes a village, Mr. Eastman. Let me know when you move in and we can talk.”

Leo:

How is it that a man who has access to countless hot women wakes on the morning of his kid’s playdate like it’s fucking Christmas? And with a jolly ripe boner at the thought of his son’s teacher. Yeah, this guy here. I’m not ashamed of it but is it appropriate to ask this woman out while we are essentially chaperoning our daughters? See, I haven’t always been a manwhore. With Dez, I was the most committed father and husband—I only had eyes for her. And maybe these new feelings make it obvious I’m ready to start over again.

With the first glance at my phone, I’m accosted with a shit-ton of texts from Donna. She invited me over last night but I’d told her I was taking my kids to the movies. This crazy, bleached-blonde tried to invite herself with us to see Venom. She had no idea it was a Marvel movie, in addition to being oblivious to the fact that I’d never let her get within arm’s reach of my kids. A good fuck she’s been but that’s all she ever could be. And now, after imagining the teacher as a person I want more than sex with, I’m on the offensive with today’s playdate. But don’t fucking get me wrong—I sure as fuck want to fill her up—but I want more than that. I can’t fucking believe that I, Leo Eastman, am admitting to this.

Shit, shit, shit. But it’s true.

REVIEW of Forget You Know Me by Jessica Strawser

Hardcover, 336 pages
Expected publication: February 5th 2019 by St. Martin's Press

When a video call between friends captures a shocking incident no one was supposed to see, the secrets it exposes threaten to change their lives forever.

Molly and Liza have always been enviably close. Even after Molly married Daniel, the couple considered Liza an honorary family member. But after Liza moved away, things grew more strained than anyone wanted to admit—in the friendship and the marriage.

When Daniel goes away on business, Molly and Liza plan to reconnect with a nice long video chat after the kids are in bed. But then Molly leaves the room to check on a crying child.

What Liza sees next will change everything.

Only one thing is certain: Molly needs her. Liza drives all night to be at Molly’s side—but when she arrives, the reception is icy, leaving Liza baffled and hurt. She knows there’s no denying what she saw.

Or is there?

In disbelief that their friendship could really be over, Liza is unaware she’s about to have a near miss of her own.

And Molly, refusing to deal with what’s happened, won’t turn to Daniel, either.

But none of them can go on pretending. Not after this.

Jessica Strawser's Forget You Know Me is a “twisty, emotionally complex, powder keg of a tale” (bestselling author Emily Carpenter) about the wounds of people who’ve grown apart. Best, friends, separated by miles. Spouses, hardened by neglect. A mother, isolated by pain.

One moment will change things for them all.

My Thoughts…

Best friends since childhood, Liza and Molly have grown apart.   I enjoyed seeing these two try to reconnect, to rebuild, and to find their new friendship.    Neither of them were willing to give up their friendship but both had obstacles to overcome before they can do that.   I struggled with how not nice they were to each other once their video chat was broken up.    Molly blew Liza off after her driving all night to check on her, Liza moves to town and doesn’t even tell Molly that she is back, and then went Daniel forces them to be together they are catty and rude to each other.     I get that feelings were hurt, things were said, but GROW UP!

I was under the impression that Forget You Know Me was a thriller but it was more a book about friendship and marriages.    It is a story about forgiveness, telling the truth, letting go of past issues and moving on with life, and of being honest with yourself.   Daniel and Molly’s marriage was in trouble from the first omission by both of them.   Liza and Molly’s friendship was in trouble from not letting go of the past.

I enjoyed this book and look forward to those quiet moments when I could escape into Jessica Strawser’s story.

Exclusive Excerpt:

Looking up, I’m frozen, stunned into silence at the sight in front of me. She’s absolutely goddamn gorgeous. She ain’t just some pretty young girl. She’s breathtakingly beautiful. She shouldn’t be in this shithole, she should be modeling or some shit. Glancing to her nametag, I see her name clearly, Channing. She doesn’t belong here, her long blonde hair is braided down her shoulder, her eyes have some dark circles beneath them, but they’re the color of the Texas sky. I can’t even drag my gaze down to the rest of her, I’m so mesmerized by her pretty face. I hear everyone’s order and almost groan when those blue eyes meet mine. “Sweet tea, darlin’.” I grin. Her cheeks tint pink and she dips her head before turning and hurrying away. I watch her ass as she goes. It’s encased in tight as fuck blue jeans, and those are tucked into a pair of worn brown boots. Goddamn. Fuck. Perfect. “Don’t even go there,” Wyatt warns. Turning my gaze from Channing’s ass, I look over at him, lifting a brow in question. “She ain’t even twenty-one,” he points out. “She’s also got a bit of a reputation. Better to just stay away,” he mutters. I snort. “Got my own rep, cousin,” I point out. Wyatt shakes his head. “Trust me, that’s a whole fucking mess of drama in a five-foot-five hot body that you don’t want any part of,” he mutters. About the Author:

REVIEW of She Saw What He Did by Lynda Renham

Kindle Edition, 270 pages
Expected publication: February 1st 2019 by Raucous Publishing

Blurb:

Abby Miller thought she had the perfect family; a good looking, loving husband and a beautiful daughter.  Her life was complete. The shock discovery that her husband, Jared had been having an affair rocked her world. So when Jared suggested a short break to the Cannard Islands, to heal their fractured marriage, Abby agreed. An idyllic holiday turns into a nightmare when Abby witnesses something terrible. Suddenly her life and the life of her daughter are in serious danger and no one seems able to help them.

My Thoughts…

Oh, how I love a good thriller.   She Saw What He Did is a perfect thriller.   There is suspense, there is romance, and it is realistic.    A husband making up for his mistake takes his wife on a weekend getaway.   While on the getaway they see something they shouldn’t have and are now in danger.   Add to that the little girl that they left home with her grandparents and the danger that is coming for them and you won’t be able to put this book down.

I loved the cast of characters, the setting of the story, and the realistic feelings of those involved all had me turning page after page.   The fear of the parents had me hoping for a happy ending, the worry of the islanders had me praying that they wouldn’t be the ones who were causing all the havoc, and the clues that the police were following had me hoping that I was wrong with my guess.

Lynda Renham is an author that I always look forward to reading.   She started as a romantic writer and has now developed into a thriller writer.   I love everything she writes and know that she never disappoints.

Excerpt:

Sparrow
He looked down at his phone and smiled. A withheld number meant only one thing.
‘Yeah,’ he said roughly.
‘Sparrow?’ questioned the gravelly voice at the other end of the line.
‘Yeah it’s me.’
‘I’ve got a job for you. It’s a bit different from the usual. These are new clients. It’s a big one. Do you think you can handle it?’
Sparrow’s jaw twitched.
‘Sure. Don’t I always?’
‘This is different. You can’t make any mistakes,’ snapped the voice.
Sparrow bristled.
‘When have I ever made a mistake?’
‘Just as long as you understand. I don’t want any problems. There’s fifty thousand in this for you, but these people aren’t amateurs and they don’t take prisoners. This is a big contract. I don’t want it fucked up.’
Sparrow’s eyes gleamed. He’d misheard, surely.
‘How much?’ he questioned. It had always been a few thousand and he’d been more than happy with that.
‘Fifty thousand,’ repeated the voice.
Sparrow whistled. His insides quivered with excitement. That was a hell of a lot of money.
‘No mistakes. You do a good job, you’ll be well rewarded. You mess it up and you’re fucked. Well and truly.’
‘What do I have to do?’ Sparrow asked breathlessly.
‘The same as usual, get the package in safely, except this time you have to caretake for a while longer. This is highly sensitive. We want the heat off before any collection. There’ll be others wanting this cargo and …’
‘What is it?’ he interrupted, pulling a stale sausage roll from a brown paper bag and biting into it. There were a few seconds of silence.
‘Fifty thousand means you don’t ask questions,’ said the voice. ‘The less you know the better.’
Sparrow wrinkled his nose. He wasn’t so sure he agreed with that, but, fifty thousand …
‘Suits me,’ he said, throwing the remainder of the sausage roll into the sea.
‘There won’t be a collection straight after the drop. It’s up to you to keep the cargo safe for a while. A few days, that’s all. ‘
‘Sure,’ he said casually, although he would have been happier knowing just what he’d be caretaker of. Perhaps it was heroin this time. It was drugs, no doubt about that. It must be a big shipment. Still, what did he care?
‘We have to deliver. I’m making myself clear, aren’t I?’
‘How dangerous is this?’ he asked, combing his fingers through his brown curly hair.
‘Fifty thousand dangerous. Take it or leave it. I can find someone else.’
Sparrow doubted there was anyone else on the island that would be able to get the goods in as well as he did.
‘I’ve just got to keep it safe, right?’
‘That’s it. As soon as things are clear it will be collected.’
‘That’s all I’ve got to do?’ asked Sparrow, suspiciously. It seemed too good to be true.
‘You don’t have to take the job. There are others who …’
‘No, I’ll take it,’ interrupted Sparrow.
‘Think of this cargo as your baby,’ laughed the voice.
Sparrow didn’t laugh with him. The sound of the waves breaking on the rocks roared in his ears. The thought of fifty grand had heightened his senses. He’d be set up for life. He could move to South America, maybe even get his own bar. He could buy one of those open- top convertibles. He’s always fancied himself in one of those.
‘So, you’re in?’ asked the voice.
‘I’m in,’ said Sparrow.
‘I’ll be in touch,’ said the voice. There was a crackle and then the line went dead.

REVIEW of DEATH MARCH ESCAPE By Jack J. Hersch

Frontline Books; January 19, 2019
40 photos; 4 maps
$34.95; 276 pages; ISBN: 978-1526740229

Surviving one Nazi death march is amazing, surviving two is astonishing. But escaping from both is nothing short of a miracle. Jack Hersch grew up hearing the stories of how his father, Dave Hersch, twice escaped the brutal death marches forced on concentration camp prisoners by the Nazis at the end of World War II. What he didn’t know about his father’s experience was the incredible confluence of luck, fate, and will to survive that made Dave unique in the history of the Holocaust, which is illuminated in DEATH MARCH ESCAPE: The Remarkable Story of a Man Who Twice Escaped From the Holocaust (includes 40 photos and four maps, published by Frontline Books; January 19, 2019).

A few years after his father died in 2001, a cousin in Israel informed Jack that a mysterious photo of his father had surfaced—on the website for Mauthausen Concentration Camp. Unlike many of the brutal depictions of concentration camp survivors recorded by Allied troops, this picture was a headshot of Dave as a smiling teenager modeling contemporary clothes. Where did this photo come from, and how did Mauthausen’s museum acquire it?

The answer to this mystery would take dedicated detective work and require Jack to confront the unflinching truth about the most nightmarish concentration camp in all of World War II—so very different from the colorful escape stories his father related every Passover. To learn how that photo was tied to Dave’s courageous struggle for survival, Jack would walk in his father’s footsteps, face the horrific reality of the Mauthausen and Gusen concentration camps where Dave was held, and stand on the roads where his father made his incalculably daring bids for freedom.

More than a memoir, biography, or history, DEATH MARCH ESCAPE is a page-turning account of what it takes to survive with your soul intact and to never surrender. It’s a love letter from a son as he captures the true meaning of heroism and a warning for anyone who would ignore the brutal lessons of history.

My Thoughts…

I love to learn more about WWII and am always looking for more books to read.  Usually, I read fiction books with the history of that era weaved into the story.   This is a firsthand look at a man’s journey in life through WWII and the Nazi rule.

Death March Escape is a personal story that shares the facts of two men.   One man lived through WWII, lived in concentration camps, walked death marches, and shares the story with his son.    The other man is the son, who after his father passes away decides to visit the areas where his father lived during WWII; he visits the concentration camps and walks the paths that his father did.      I was more interested in the father’s story but the son seemed to keep the spotlight more on his thoughts, his worries, and his travels.    Even when sharing his father’s story he talks of what he was feeling and what he thought his father meant in telling his story.

This is a unique and detailed story that shares what it was like living through the Nazi’s rule.  How a person in a concentration camp was treated, what their thoughts were when they were being kept in a camp, and how it was shared with their families.    If you are a WWII enthusiast, if you are curious as to what real people lived through under Nazi rule, and if you are looking to enhance your concentration camp knowledge pick up your own copy of Death March Escape.   It is not an easy or quick read but it is interesting and told in a way that will keep your interest from the very beginning.
