My Thoughts…

Melissa Storm knows how to write a novella.    Not every author can write a novella.   It is difficult to pull the reader in within so few pages.    With less than 100 pages to get her story across, Melissa Storm managed to entertain me, get me interested in the characters, and invested in the outcome.   

Unleash My Heart is a cute and loving story.   Will and Charlie are as opposite as any two people can be.    Carefree and living life to the fullest is how Charlie sees herself.    She does not want to be tied down to anyone or anything so she gets a dog.   Yeah, a dog.   Will lives by the rules.   He is straight as an arrow and wants a successful and good life with his dog.     Have you figured out what brings them together?   The common theme?     If not I suggest reading the book.  

Of course, there is more to their story than the dogs.    There is falling in love, fighting falling in love, and the sex.      The plot flows, the story is complete, and the characters are great.   I recommend checking out Unleash My Heart.

“In regards to your other question, yes there are more of us. I’m part of an organisation.”

Cora nodded but on the inside she was screaming. She just wanted all of the information laid out for her so she could decide what implications it would have on her life.

“An organisation that wants to do what?”

“We’re growing still. Every day we’re getting bigger and soon we will have enough people but we are missing one. We need you to complete our ranks,” he stated cryptically. He wasn’t even trying to answer Cora’s question.

“Hold up. Answer my questions first. What is this organisation?” Cora asked, irritated.

“We can help you.” Jed shrugged casually while taking a sip of his drink.

“I don’t need help. I’m doing quite well on my own thanks,” Cora muttered. She knew what was coming next.

“Really? Avoiding Carvelli numerous times because of tips we left you and then getting caught and having to escape? It sounds like you’re doing brilliantly.” Jed’s attitude shifted as he spoke with a sarcastic bite to his voice but his eyes danced playfully.

“Well I’ve lasted a long time without being caught.”

“With our help,” he responded quickly, while peering over the lip of his cup.

“Who are the ‘we’ you keep referring to?”

“Say you’ll help us and you’ll find out,”

My Thoughts…

I always thought adult picture books were just for coffee tables.    They were not for really looking at, they were just to look pretty.    I was partially right.     This picture book is beautiful but it is so much more.    It is for looking at, for reading, and for learning more about a war that has affect every person in some way.  

One of my favorite genres to read about is fiction war stories, they may be fiction but they still hold some of the truths of war and that of coming home.     Afghanistan:  On the Bounce showed me exactly what I had been picturing in my mind as I read other military books.   The pictures in this book bring me right into the action, into the world of the soldier’s life.    I loved the commentary throughout the book as well.  It gave a description of what I was looking at and what the soldiers could experience while in the picture area.      I felt like I finished the book with a better understanding of their real life experiences.

My Thoughts…

Wyatt and Delilah are twins, fresh out of college facing the toughest thing a child can go through.   They lost both their parents in a car accident.     Now they both have to figure out how to live their lives.     Both twins have their ups and downs, we learned about Wyatt’s life in Catching Cassidy (my thoughts HERE).   Now it is Delilah’s turn.

I love Delilah.    She is strong, faithful, and so adorable.    She lived life behind Wyatt.   He was her protector from her entire life.    Now she needs to step out of his shadow and life how she wants it to be.   Her lifestyle is not openly accepted by some.    She is a closet lesbian; actually she isn’t even sure that she really likes women.   But she knows she really likes Ashley.    While discovering her feelings, learning how to live in an alternative lifestyle, she learns to be Delilah.    She learns what it means to be Delilah.   She doesn’t have to be what everyone else wants her to be and do what they think she should.    Watching her becoming strong and self sufficient was amazing.   

This is not a book for everyone.    The lesbian story line could be a taboo subject for some.   To those people I say, open your eyes.   This is the world we live in.    Be happy for love.    I cannot wait for Tristan’s story.

My Thoughts…

This certainly could be considered a YA but I am not a young adult and I enjoyed it from the first page to the last.    I found myself looking to steal a few minutes here or a few minutes there just to get a few more pages read.     I actually started it while eating my lunch and finished it shortly after dinner, I just could not put it down.   

 

The characters were amazing.  

The mother cracked me up.    I feel like I can sometimes be like her.   I read something in the paper, on line, or where ever and immediately think oh my gosh, is that happening at my house.   Although, I do hope that I do not go to extremes like she does.   I know that I have never threatened to throw my daughters computer out the window but I have threatened to close it down on her.      I feel like the mother just wanted to do all she could.   She felt she let one of her kids down, Audrey, and was making up for it by trying to do everything she could for them now.    The dad also cracked me up.    He was so into his own zone, maybe by need to get away from the chaos in the house.   He answers how he thinks he should to keep his wife happy.   

The kids…. I loved them all.  Although this was Audrey’s story, Felix and Frank (the brothers) were amazing.     Felix, the 4 year old, had the best personality.   He spoke what was on his mind, was stubborn, and just made the story a little lighter.   Frank was a typical teen.    As a teenager he wanted to play online games, he walked around with headphones in 24/7, in short he was typical.    The sarcasm he had with his parents was portrayed perfectly.     Sophie Kinsella hit the nail on the head with these kids.

I have to talk about Audrey.    What a rough life to live.   Rarely leaving the house, not being able to handle changes in life, and not being able to be around people cannot be good.    She struggles, yet she never gives up.   She talks to herself, in a good way, building herself up, talking through tough situations, and making the best with what she can handle.   

There is one other amazing character in this book, Linus.    His patience, understanding, and care while being around Audrey was amazing.  He got her.  He understood that she could not function in the same way he  did, yet he believed that she would be able to.     Linus understood her limits and sometimes pushed her just a little past them, but somehow he always knew her limit.    I believe he is the true hero in this story.  He is the one that made her realize that she was going to be okay, she was going to be “normal”, and that he would be by her side.

Wow, this is a long review.   I just can’t say enough about how great the book is.   Pick it up.   Read it on the beach.   Share it with you teenagers, boys or girls alike.

My Thoughts…

A good mystery is always one of my favorite books to pick up.     The romance in It Had to Be You also drew me in.    I loved that the romance was not instant.   The relationship between Sean and Trixie builds and grows as the story is told.    They did not fall right in to bed, although I could tell they both wanted to.   There actually ended up being no sex in this book.   

Trixie entertained me.   She had guts, she was feminine, and she was funny.   She knew what she wanted in life and was not afraid to work for it.    It is a man’s world in 1924 and she was not afraid to stick her nose into that world.      Trixie stood up for what she believed in and did not let Sean, even though he is a detective, push her around.

I do wish there was more history in the story.   I love the 20’s.   I wanted more of that setting.   There were times I forgot it was a history book and felt the story was more of a current time frame setting.    I felt like there was so much more that could have been told and that the author dropped the ball a little in that part.   

Do not get me wrong, this is a great story.  I enjoyed it from the first page to the end.    It kept me entertained and reading.     I recommend checking it out and I cannot wait for more.

My Thoughts…

Cassandra Giovanni asked me to read her new book Finding the Cure.  I, of course, said sure.  I did not just read this book.  I devoured it.   I was invested in knowing that Ellie was okay, happy, and settled in life.    I needed Trent to be the stand-up man that I prayed he was.     I wanted Ellie’s dad to make the family be okay.   

Finding the Cure is not an easy book to read.    The discussion of cancer and losing your father can never be easy.    Yet, there were times I almost forgot about the cancer because I was so wrapped up in Trent and Ellie’s story.    Everything from the way they met, at a book store, to how their relationship progressed had me thinking of them when I was not able to read their story.     I loved how their relationship progressed at a normal pace, it was not a meet and fall into bed story.   Their story is a true love story.   

Add in Allie, Trent’s daughter/sister, and their family is complete.      Allie had me in stitches laughing so much.   She was the light part of the story.   When things got heavy she threw out the word kinky or asked if they were practicing kissing quietly.     She was a real little girl.  She has spunk, love, and kept it light.    

If you are looking for a light yet heavy book this is exactly what you need.   I certainly recommend checking it out.

My Thoughts…

Her Sister’s Shoes is a really good book with a lot happening.    Each of the sister’s had their own issues to deal with add to that their mother, Lovie, and the children of the sister’s.    It seemed that every person had a problem, a lot of them had problems connected to the same reason.    I know that sounds like a lot to keep tabs on, but it isn’t nearly as confusing as it sounds.  There is an unmarried sister, Samantha, who has a son with a lot of anger from an ATV accident that killed his best friend.    Jackie is dealing with a cheating husband.   Faith has an abusive husband.    

I felt sorry for each of the sisters.  None of them deserved to have their life in upheaval.  They did not bring on their own struggles, yet each became stronger from what they were going through.    What I really enjoyed is watching the family come together.    Even with their individual problems they were available for each other, standing next to each other, supporting each other, and putting their own issues aside.     I liked how they all came together concerning Lovie also.    No one became that person who tried to control the situation, they had conversations, they worked together, and gave their mother the support she needed also.   

This is a great family dynamic story.   I recommend checking it out.
