Heath (Roughneck #2) by Chelsea Camaron

Published April 18, 2015

“One day, I will be more than an item to be bought or sold, won or lost.”

At fifteen, she was helpless. At eighteen, she was ruined. LoraLeigh Riffel fights every day to hold on to herself as she is tossed from the loser to the next winner, time and again.
Heath ‘Hitman’ Thomas works hard and plays even harder. From tripping pipes to winning fights, his world is in his hands.

When a battered and unstable woman is left at his doorstep for payment on a fight, every-thing changes in an instant.

She is the prize, but is he willing to accept the payment?

My Thoughts….

This is a short story, 52 pages.    I have grown to love a short story, when written correctly.   It has to be difficult as an author to get enough of a story into such few pages.   Chelsea Camaron is an expert at making the story fit into the pages.    There is enough background to understand what is going on in the story without adding all the extra fluff and there is enough of the story to get to know the characters and feel connected to them.

This is a series, yet you could pick up each book on its own and not feel like you are missing something.  I love when a series is like this.   It is fun when past characters pop into the story, yet this story is truly about LoreLeigh (love the name) and Heath.

LoreLeigh and Heath’s story is not easy.  Chelsea covers a tough and real subject.  It is not a subject for those under 18 and it is not even for all adults.   Yet, it is handled with grace and respect.
I highly recommend this entire series.    Start with book 1, Maverick, (See my review HERE) and continue with Heath’s story.

Maverick by Chelsea Camaron

Published April 6, 2015

He was the high school crush who never knew I existed. I am still the girl hiding against the wall.
Life for Kenzy Davis is far from easy right now. After ending a long term relationship, she is back in her hometown, starting over.

Maverick Collins works hard and plays even harder. An invisible illness shakes his world at its core as his father fights for his life. Everything he ever took for granted stares him in the face, including the shy girl from his past.

Watching someone you love battle an illness is never easy. When the ICU nurse caring for his dad is the one girl from his past he saw around but overlooked, does Maverick find comfort in her embrace? Does Kenzy find a new calm in the chaos of her life? Or do their feelings remain invisible yet again?

My Thoughts...

Oh, how I love Chelsea Camaron.  Maverick was the perfect short, hot, and sweet story for me.     I feel that short stories can be tricky.   It is hard to give enough detail to pull the reader in, without giving too much detail and make the book long.    Chelsea camaron did it exactly right with this one.
I was pulled in and made to care for the Kenzy and Maverick.   I was invested in them finding happy ever after.    I was hoping and praying that it would be with each other.

Kenzy was truly a life saver.    She took it upon herself to give extra care to maverick's dad when she didn't have to.    She gave advice and support to maverick when he didn't have any where else to turn to.

I am so excited for this series.   I cannot wait for more.

Addicted to You (FlameSmith in Love Book 2) by Laura Kitchell

Published February 7, 2015

Odsbody goes home to Manchester, England for the holidays only to have his family subject him to an intervention for his addiction. To make matters worse, the members of his band, FlameSmith, are in collusion with his family to get him into rehab. With reluctance and a great deal of denial, he is admitted to the rehab center. Everyone is against him, but there’s nothing new in that. He’s a loner and always has been.

Izzy Potts has nursed temperamental, spoiled, and addicted celebrities before, so she hardly blinks when she’s assigned to the care of FlameSmith’s front man. Never mind that she’s a fan. Never mind that even emaciated and racked with the pain of withdrawals, V Odsbody is gorgeous.

Despite her professional demeanor, Izzy has a nurturing and kind way that reaches V through his agony and soothes him to his soul. He’s warned her he’ll have her when he feels human again, and she doubts she’ll have the willpower to deny him. But he’s always lost interest in a woman once he’s had her in his bed, and thanks to the diligence of gossip media, she knows it. They don’t stand a chance.

My Thoughts…

I am a Laura Kitchell fan.  Her stories are have hot, alpha males partnered with strong, confident females.   I love a strong female character and who doesn’t love an alpha male?

Izzy is a nurse who knows what her job is and does it to the best of her ability.  She protects her patients and understands their need for privacy.  Especially the need for privacy when they are a mega rock star.   When V Odsbody is admitted to the rehab facility she works at and she is asked to take care of him, she takes the job knowing that this will be a challenge.

I loved how the romance between V and Izzy goes.   While Izzy is attracted to V, she understands he is a patient.  V is use to getting his way and even goes as far as to threaten Izzy that when he is better she is his.   The going back and forth between these two had me giggle, sigh, and cover my mouth in shock.  I struggled with when the relationship started and how it was carried on.   I guess I thought it was too soon and not quite in the right location.   That being said, I loved how much they respected each other and understood what was going on with them.

There is something to be said for being rich, famous, and finding true love.   V comes out of rehab a changed and better man.   Izzy comes out with a new career, the love of her life, and a stronger person.

I recommend checking out this series.   Want to read my review of the first book?   Click here…

The House of Hawthorne by Erika Robuck

Published May 5, 2015 by NAL

Beset by crippling headaches from a young age and endowed with a talent for drawing, Sophia is discouraged by her well-known New England family from pursuing a woman’s traditional roles. But from their first meeting, Nathaniel and Sophia begin an intense romantic relationship that despite many setbacks leads to their marriage. Together, they will cross continents, raise children, and experience all the beauty and tragedy of an exceptional partnership. Sophia’s vivid journals and her masterful paintings kindle a fire in Nathaniel, inspiring his writing. But their children’s needs and the death of loved ones steal Sophia’s energy and time for her art, fueling in her a perennial tug-of-war between fulfilling her domestic duties and pursuing her own desires.

Spanning the years from the 1830s to the Civil War, and moving from Massachusetts to England, Portugal, and Italy, The House of Hawthorneexplores the tension within a famous marriage of two soulful, strong-willed people, each devoted to the other but also driven by a powerful need to explore the far reaches of their creative impulses. It is the story of a forgotten woman in history, who inspired one of the greatest writers of American literature.
My Thoughts…

Nathaniel Hawthorne and his wife lived a very interesting life.   I was enthralled with how they stayed connected to each other through so many trials.  They were rich, poor, separated, living in foreign lands, sick, and so much more yet they managed to keep their love alive and live fulfilling lives together.    I have heard stories of true love before, yet this is a real story of true love.  It is not a live wrapped up in a pretty bow where all is easy and happy.  The House of Hawthorne is a story of real true love.   Nathaniel and Sophia are in physical pain when they are separated, they need each other, live off being with each other.

I loved Sophia.   From the first time she met Nathaniel and knew of her sisters care for him, she tried to do the right thing but the heart knew better.   The pulled between them was undeniable.   As her life moves forward with her family, Sophia puts her own art on hold and raises her family.   This is a typical mother, she has to.   She does it without complaint and understands that her time for art is not over, she is just making a different form of art.  She had a contentment about her that made her a great example for mothers, even in today’s world, of how unselfish you have to be to raise your children and keep your family safe.

The timeframe of The House of Hawthorne was of great interest to me.  Not only did I see how life in America was in the 19th century, but I was taken across the ocean to places that I dream of visiting.    Each place that was visited was brought to life with the descriptions of the towns, the buildings, the surroundings, and also the people and their lifestyles.   The details were evident that Erika Robuck did her research.

This is my first novel by Erika Robuck and I cannot wait to read more.  I will recommend this book.

Mission Delivery(Ex Ops #2.5) by Jessie Lane

Published January 9th, 2015 by Whiskey Girls Publishing

Bobby Baker is a man with new lease on life.

He is engaged to his high school sweetheart, and he is bonding with the fourteen year old son he wasn’t aware of a little less than a year ago.

But there’s more. The love of his life is pregnant with their second child. This time, he’ll be there to witness the birth of one of his children instead of missing out on it.

Or will he?

Belle unexpectedly goes into labor a month early while Bobby is coming off a mission half a world away. Will he be able to make it home in time for the birth of his second child?

Or will he miss this delivery, too?

My Thoughts…

I love the Ex Ops series.   The characters have become friends to me and I care about their happiness.   When Jessie Lane offered me a copy of Mission Delivery I was so excited.   I had missed these characters and were excited to get a glimpse into their lives and see what was happening.    This was a short story, but it gave me an update.

I love Bobby and Belle.  They have gone through so much.   They deserve a happy life.   This glimpse into what was happening was just enough to confirm that they are still happy.  The labor scene made me laugh.    Bobby was understanding and took it all like the man he is, while Belle let him know exactly what she was thinking.   Then the baby was here and Bobby was the sweetest daddy ever.   I knew he would be, but loved seeing it.    I cannot wait for more about Teagan.  There has to be a good story in her future.

I recommend checking out this entire series, starting with Secret Maneuvers, followed by Stripping Her Defense, then Mission Delivery, and coming soon Sweet Recovery.

Sundaes with Nora by Anna Garner

Published February 24, 2015

Nora Finch has a sweet life. She’s married to one of San Francisco’s wealthiest venture capitalists, she lives in a gorgeous old Victorian mansion in one of the city’s most sought-after neighborhoods, and she just launched an ice cream business with her two best friends, Cricket and Lindsay.

However…exactly one week after Sweet Dreams opens its doors to the public, Nora’s husband, Kenneth, informs her he wants a divorce.

Talk about bad timing. Now, on top of the tremendous pressure she feels to drive sales, Nora has to deal with the breakdown of her marriage, adjust to a more frugal lifestyle, find a new place to live and prepare to dip her toes in the dating pool for the first time in four years. If that weren’t enough, everyone keeps trying to get her to “process” her feelings. For an overachiever like Nora, juggling the demands of a new business along with a total overhaul of her personal life should be doable…right?

My Thoughts…

While this is a story of a woman following her dreams , I enjoyed the friendships in this book even more.    The three women, who have been friends forever, follow their dreams together and open an ice cream shop, Sweet Dreams.   These women work hard together to make the shop successful, play hard together, and love each other to the ends of the earth.     Their friendship is the type that people on the outside look at and think that they wish they had friends like this.   These ladies protect each other, call each other out on issues, and love each other.

Sundaes with Nora is a continuation of Sugar Spun Sister, the first book in the Sweet Dreams series.   Cricket’s story is book one, Nora’s is book two, and Lindsay’s will follow in book three.    It is fun to see these three best friends suceed in their dreams and lives.   I enjoyed that this is a clean story.   Ther e is love, fun, and attractions, but it does not have to lead to falling into bed.   These are women with morals and belief in themselves.   They do not need a man to help them succeed.

I have always read Anna Garner’s books when they come available.   They are fun, easy , and usually one sitting reads.   I recommend checking out all her books, especially the Sweet Dreams series.

Catching Cassidy by Melissa Foster & GIVEAWAY

NEW HARBORSIDE NIGHTS is a sexy, hot, and evocatively real New Adult Romance series that follows a group of friends who have known one another for years as “summer” friends, and now come together after college to build their lives. They’re tough, edgy, and accepting—most of the time. This series is written in the loving, raw, and emotional voice readers have come to love by New York Times & USA Today bestselling, award-winning author Melissa Foster.

Wyatt Armstrong never imagined that instead of celebrating his college graduation, he and his twin sister would be dealing with the death of their parents. Then again, Wyatt had never been one to think past tomorrow. He heads to their summer home in Harborside, Massachusetts, with his best friend Cassidy Lowell in tow, to deal with his parents’ death and to try to figure out his next step.

Six foot two, infuriatingly handsome, and flirtatious, Wyatt Armstrong has always been there for Cassidy, helping her pass her classes and fend off unwanted advances, while driving her insane with his one-night stands—but that’s what best friends are for, isn’t it? Having each other’s backs. There was never any doubt that she would accompany him to his family’s summer home—but she never expected to begin seeing Wyatt as more than a friend. Or has she been ignoring her feelings all along?

It’s impossible to ignore the sizzling heat between them as Wyatt and Cassidy get even closer, but Cassidy knows Wyatt’s past, and she has a real job to begin in the fall. Wyatt may be a sure thing for the summer, but Cassidy needs more. For the first time in his life, Wyatt is forced to look toward the future if he doesn’t want to lose the one woman who’s shared his past and owns his heart.

**CONTENT WARNING: Due to mature content, recommended for readers aged 18+**

My Thoughts...

Oh how I love these characters.   They are more young adult than some of the other characters Melissa Foster usually writes about but they are just as wonderful.   I felt like these could be my daughter's friends and I wanted them to be happy, safe, and successful.

I loved the Wyatt and Cassidy had been friends for so long, yet they never took their relationship to the next level.   They both got jealous when the other was in a relationship but were afraid to lose each other.   This goes to show that sometimes best friends make the best boyfriend/girlfriend.  While they were both afraid to take that first step, I knew it was going to happen.  How can sparks that bright and hot be ignored?  But I do love that they talked about what would happen, they discussed if it was worth risking their friendship, and they didn't rush anything.

The other characters in this book were also wonderful.   The friendships and relationships were real, fun, and something I look forward to learning more about.   Every character is someone I would want to know and someone I want to know more about.    This series is going to be amazing.  I cannot wait for more.

Rock My Christmas by Laura Kitchell

Published November 22, 2014 by Smashwords Edition

Just because Kendel Price is a woman doesn’t mean she can’t sow her wild oats before starting her career and settling in the suburbs. With that in mind, she takes a job as a personal assistant to Burn Shatterly. Burn is the woman-hating lead guitarist for the mega-famous rock band FlameSmith. As Kendel works past his defenses, she discovers a kind, sexy man underneath his hard exterior. She’s more aware than ever that he doesn’t belong in the future she has planned. Can she leave before she completely falls for him? Or is it too late? Are they both destined for a Christmas heartbreak?

My Thoughts…

Kendel thinks she knows exactly what she wants when she grows up.    Burn lives the fast life and has had too many women take advantage of him.   Then they meet.   Sparks fly from the first time they meet and it just gets more and more intense.   While they both fight their feelings and try to put the sparks out, it is never easy.   The drama, the arguing, and of course the loving is so intense.    They are exactly what true love should be
Rock My Christmas is a cute and fun story.   I was hoping for an easy read with a real story.    That is exactly what I got from Laura Kitchell.   She managed to put a lot of history, future, and love in to a short(er) story.  I loved that I had a background as to why these characters reacted to each other the way they did, why they lived the way they do, and why they were fighting their feelings for each other.

There are hot males, sexy females, fun travelling, and lots of emotions shared within these pages.    There is a real story with realistic characters.  I recommend checking out Rock My Christmas.

Lunar Falls Book Trailer:

Lunar Falls Triology Website:

My Thoughts…

This is the third and final (insert sad sigh) book in the Lunar Falls series.   I started the first not having read anything by Lashell Collins and have quickly devoured every book since then.

photo LF3-teaser2 1_zpstlshwcog.pngRedemption of Lunar Falls is the perfect ending to the series.  I wanted the Moon Chasers to find their happy ending and be able to stay in Lunar Falls safely, but more importantly I wanted the series to be tied up in a neat bow.    I get frustrated when I finish a series of books and feel like there should be more.   Lashell Collins did a great job of putting all the characters in their correct places, tying all their stories together, and explaining what was happening.

While this series is done, there could be more.   More about the secondary characters, not Carly and Gabe’s story.    The secondary characters in this series were just as important to me as Carly and Gabe.   I wanted them to be okay and find their happy endings also.    I would love more about them.    Learn how the other pregnant Moon Chasers fair.

I highly recommend you read this series in order.   The storyline continues from book to book.  This is a series that is not just about paranormal, it is romance, love,  alpha males (YUM), and so much more.

They both fell back onto the mattress and stared up at the ceiling, panting as their hearts raced together keeping perfect time.
“Have I ever told you that I love that sexy little swivel thing you do with your hips when we’re in that position?” he asked, still looking up at the ceiling.
Carly giggled. “Um … no. No, you haven’t,” she panted.
“Well, I really love that sexy little thing you do with your hips in that position. It drives me insane,” he said. Then he turned and looked at her with a wicked grin.
“Oh, yeah?” she asked as he reached out and ran a finger down her cheek.
“Yeah,” he answered. He rolled over toward her and kissed her lips, slow and rhythmic as his tongue stroked hers, leaving her breathless all over again when he finally pulled away.
“Gabe?” she whispered.
“Hmm?”
“Are you hungry?” she asked.
The innocent question sounded so seductive as it dropped from her soft sweet lips, but Gabe felt her physical hunger run through him just before the growl from her stomach reached his ears. He couldn’t have stopped the laughter if he had wanted to.
Carly smiled as he laughed at her, burying his face in the crook of her neck, and she ran her hand through his hair.
“Don’t laugh at me,” she pretended to pout. “It’s not my fault our child has the appetite of a grown Moon Hunter male.”
“You are adorable, do you know that?” he asked.
“Are you making fun of me?” she responded.
“No. I’m cherishing you,” he said, looking into her eyes.
“That’s what you said earlier, when you bathed me before the ceremony,” she said.
“Yes, I did. That’s my word for the night because it is my vow to you,” he said as he caressed her face. “Carly, I am going to spend the rest of our lives cherishing you. You are everything to me, baby. Please don’t ever forget that. I am so proud that you are my mate.”
“Gabe,” she whispered again, running her fingertips over the scruff of his short manicured beard. Then he kissed her again.
“Mine,” she heard him say in her head.
“Yes. Yours,” she replied.
Their make out session ended when her stomach growled again, and Gabe pulled away, still laughing.
“Come on. Let’s go find my pup something to eat,” he said.
They climbed out of the bed and Carly found her sweater from before the bath still sitting on top of the hamper where Gabe had left it, and she slipped it on over her head. It hit her at the mid-thigh area, covering all the essentials, and she ran a hand through her sex hair. Gabe pulled on an old pair of sweatpants he found in one of the drawers, and then he took Carly by the hand and led her out of the bedroom and through the family room to the door.
The house was completely quiet when they stepped out into the wide hallway, and Gabe led her to the left toward the front staircase. Carly couldn’t help feeling as though they were doing something naughty as they creeped down the stairs, like children sneaking out to play way past their bedtime. In the kitchen, Gabe turned on the light and headed straight for the fridge.
“What have you got a taste for?” he asked, smiling sarcastically at her as he opened up the refrigerator.
“Hmm? Oddly enough … meat comes to mind,” Carly said, playing along. “Got a big juicy steak in here somewhere with my name on it?”
“Steak? No,” he said as he rooted around on the top shelf. “But …”
He pulled out a large plate covered with foil and gave it a sniff, recognizing immediately that it was elk and that it was fresh. His Moon Hunter protective instincts kicked in, giving him a sense of accomplishment that he could feed his pregnant mate something beneficial to their unborn pup, and he smiled as he tore off the foil and held it out to her.
Carly sniffed at it, realizing for the second time that day that the aroma of a food suddenly took precedence over the visual of it for her - a truth she knew was due to her new Moon Hunter sense of smell, and she had to admit that from her veterinary point of view, the changes going on inside her body fascinated her.
