ABOUT THE BOOK: In this effervescent millennial coming-of-age novel, a woman accidentally upends her entire life after a disconcerting tarot reading
Everyone knows the death card in a tarot reading isn’t a
literal death sentence. Well, everyone except Becky.
Becky is not doing well. Her dreaded thirtieth birthday is
looming, and she can’t help thinking she’s falling behind in life. Her (smug)
friends are all planning weddings, buying houses, or starting their own
businesses, but not Becky. She still lives with her mom, hates her job, doesn’t
speak to her father, and—despite numerous dates—hasn’t moved on from her
ex-boyfriend. Things can’t get much worse.
Becky doesn’t believe in the arcane, but armed with a gift
card and a desperate need for guidance, she visits a tarot reader… who tells
her she’s going to die. Convinced she’s a goner and panicked about having done
nothing with her life, Becky finally takes action. She writes a series of
letters to the people she loves unloading all the things she’s been holding
back. And she waits.
But in the morning, she’s not dead. And worse, the mail is
already reaching people’s doorsteps. Will the letters be the wake-up call Becky
needs, or just the next step in a never-ending downward spiral?
With sparkling wit and compassionate insight, Chloe Seager
chronicles the ups and downs of figuring out how you wants to show up in
life—for yourself and for the people you love.
My Thoughts: A fun and unique look at finding your
way in life. It is easy to get stuck in
a rut and so hard to get out of it.
Chloe is stuck in a very deep rut, and her life is not making her
happy. It was interesting to see how she
worked through her current situation.
The way she saw herself was not very positive and I felt bad for her. There were a few times I felt like she was
having her own pity party. I wanted to
look at her to tell her to get over it and on with her life.
The friendships in this book are true friendships. They had rough spots but they stayed
supportive through all the ups and downs.
I like that it was not an all good no rough times relationship, it was
true to relationships. Chloe had the
support she needed to find her happiness but they still let her find her own
way.
This is a great book for young adults with a lot to relate
to.

PRAISE FOR CHLOE SEAGER’S DEBUT, OPEN MINDED
"What does and doesn't make relationships ethical and
healthy is a critical question posed in this novel.... Holly and
Fliss are charming protagonists with impressive force of character. Their
stories demonstrate that it's unwise to elevate monogamous romantic
relationships over all other forms of connection, including friendships, which
can be just as precious. A worthwhile read for those interested in open
relationships.”
— Kirkus Reviews on Open
Minded
“[A]n effervescent chronicle of two women’s inverse dating
lives and their illuminating friendship… As the narrative unfolds, both women
confront society’s expectations for a “typical” relationship and come to terms
with what they need for themselves. Readers will fall in love with this
one.”
— Publishers Weekly on Open
Minded
"Told with humor and empathy for each woman’s
situation, Seager's adult debut features two likeable heroines that readers
will root for as the women figure out what they want, not just in their
romantic lives, but in their careers, friendships, and familial relationships.”
— Booklist on Open
Minded
"A warm-hearted romcom for all kinds of curious daters.
. .Whether the reader is committed to monogamy, polyamory, or something in
between, Open Minded gives a chance to see in broad as well as
more nuanced strokes how relatable characters might go about stepping outside
of their comfort zones."
— Lily Lindon, author of Double
Booked on Open Minded
"A joyful, chaotic exploration of love and monogamy. I

“Funny, joyous and wise, this is a story which reminds us
it’s OK not to have the answers, to be working things out, and to be living
life on our own terms.”

"Refreshingly candid, whip-smart and painfully funny. A
perfect exploration of what it's like to navigate the never-ending challenges
of love, dating and adulthood."
— Hannah Tovey, author of The
Education of Ivy Edwards on Open Minded
"I knew nothing about open relationships before this
(beyond wondering how anyone had the time), but this was an eye opening, fun
and completely engrossing read. I was thinking about Holly and Fliss for a
long time after I was done. Truly spectacular."
— Rebecca Ryan, author of My
Extraordinary Life on Open Minded
"The most insightful book about love I’ve read in a
long time. A hilarious and sharp take on not just romantic relationships but
friendships too with incredibly relatable characters and dating experiences. I

that hasn't been done before! Funny, charming and unique, I'll be thinking
about Fliss and Holly's friendship for a long time."
— Lauren Forsythe, author of Dealbreakers
"Open Minded reminds us that dating is
always messy, and perhaps open relationships are less about the sexual partners
we sleep with and more about the friends we make along the way."
