Review for Snoop Come Home by Jeff Whitcher

When the Doghouse Becomes a Studio

Some books sneak up on you. Others announce their weirdness from the cover. Snoop, Come Home does both—and then sets fire to the fourth wall while dropping a beat.

In this unfiltered adult picture book, Jeff Whitcher takes the innocent charm of Peanuts and gives it a 420-friendly twist. Snoop Dogg, now starring as the iconic beagle, lounges on the red dog house not with warplane goggles, but with a joint and a notebook full of rhymes. As the classic cast of characters stumbles through modern slang, medical marijuana cards, and rap philosophy, readers are treated to a surprisingly layered satire. The illustrations replicate Schulz’s timeless visuals so faithfully, it’s easy to forget you’re reading a parody—until you catch the punchlines hiding in plain sight. This is satire with a wink, a nod, and a little smoke curling out the corner of the panel.

The architect of this brilliantly bizarre remix is Jeff Whitcher, a writer and illustrator with a gift for spinning strange ideas into unforgettable stories. With more than 40 books under his belt, Jeff has cultivated a voice that’s at once humorous, heartfelt, and frequently off the rails. His dual life as a social worker and creative storyteller informs everything he writes, infusing his work with unexpected compassion even when the material veers into absurdity. When he’s not writing or parenting five kids, Jeff digs deep into musical obscurities on his YouTube channel, Vinyl Destination. Snoop Come Home: A parody by Jeff Whitcher

Published: March 13, 2020

Genre:  Humor

Taken from Goodreads:  This hilarious parody of the beloved Charlie Brown cartoon series will have adults in stitches (the good kind!) From the author who brought you THE HIPSTER AT THE END OF THE BOOK and JAMES BROWN CAN MOO, CAN YOU?

My Thoughts:  The Snoop Dogg that I know is not the man at the Olympics and doing commercials; he is the marijuana smoking shizzle rapper that was part of Dr. Dre’s crew of artists.   This book is perfect for that era of Snoop Dogg fans.

The first time I saw the cover I laughed and could not wait to read through the book.   I love that the illustrations are familiar with a clean-cut Charlie Brown Crew and are now full of smoke and bongs of Snoop Dogg.   Even my husband (who refuses to read a book) had to pick up this book that had me laughing out loud to see what I was reading.   He read and laughed out loud also.

This is not a children’s book, it is a book for adults with adult humor in it.  I enjoyed every page and know that I will be pulling it off my shelf over and over when I need a laugh, smile, or pick me up to my day.
