Review for Perfect Risk by C.A. Harms with a Giveaway

Title: Perfect Risk
Series: Mason Creek #1
Author: C.A. Harms
Genre: Small Town Romance
Release Date: April 8, 2021

Mason Creek, Montana is my home. It always has been and truth is, there is no place like it.

I can hide away in a big city, pretend as if I’m not drowning. I can ignore the sadness inside my heart that is begging for a change. But if I’m being honest, my sense of belonging has disappeared. I thought I wanted the big city life, the fast track and all the glamorous things. Turns out, there’s nowhere I’d rather be than home.

Coming back to help run my mom’s business gave me the perfect escape.

But there is one problem.

An unresolved past has a way of haunting anyone. Things can sure get complicated when the man that broke your heart all those years ago is now your new landlord.

It may get a little messy, I may regret my decision to stay…

But then again, this might just be the Perfect Risk.

My Thoughts…  Perfect Risk is the perfect start to a series that I am already looking forward to reading more of.   As I read the book, I kept looking at the secondary characters and wondering what their story would entail, would I meet new characters, was their happily ever after already in Mason Creek.  C.A. Harms has started a series and it is already a must-read for me.

In Perfect Risk we meet Wyatt and Sadie.   Wyatt is the guy who broke Sadie’s heart when they were in high school and the last person Sadie wants to see when she returns home.   Of course, he is one of the first people he runs into and then ends up renting his cottage.   From their first meeting when she comes home the sparks fly and when she moves in next door, they cannot help but feel their attraction grow.  I loved seeing Sadie fight her feelings while Wyatt is working to figure out how to win her heart.   There is no doubt that they will come together.   The question is if Sadie can open her heart enough to let Wyatt in forever.

C.A. Harms has written an wonderful, sweet, and sexy story set in a cute small town.

Amazon Review - “Welcome to Mason Creek! This book was absolutely beautiful.”
Fun Under the Covers - “Absolutely beautiful story of love and forgiveness”

“Will you stop laughing, it was awful.” I flopped down on my couch and buried my head in the throw pillow.

“Come on, Sadie, it can’t be that bad.” Anna had no idea.

“No, not bad at all, Ms. Murphy just found her son with his mouth on my tits but hey, it was nothing.”

“Okay so when you say on your tits, was he like smashed between them, or focusing on one at a time?”

“You are an asshole.” She was loving my humiliation, the sound of her laughter confirmed this. I know my best friend, and had the tables been turned she would have grabbed her shirt, put it on, and then managed to prance around as if nothing had happened. “You should have seen the look on her face. And then Will didn’t make things any better.”

“I’m sure he had a whole lot to say.”

“Too much.” His words were still ringing in my mind. It was almost as if his poor mother wasn’t standing at his side while he spewed things that furthered my humiliation. I don’t think I will ever be able to face her without feeling like a complete idiot.

“She is a woman, she was married to one of the Murphy men for years, I think she is completely aware of their powers.” Anna was trying to make me feel better and she was failing. “I’m sure she’s already forgotten about what she saw.”

“Sure, yeah, I’m sure.” Not even close. “I’m sure that the idea of me having premarital sex with her son in his garage is the furthest thing from her mind. Not to mention she found him sucking on my nipple.”

Anna’s laugh echoed even louder, accompanied by a snort. “Oh, so he was mid-suck?”

“I’m hanging up on you now.” I ended the call to the sounds of her uncontrollable laughter and didn’t feel any better about what had taken place only a short time ago.

The minute I looked up to find Wyatt’s mother and brother there I let my head hang low as I hurried out of the garage ignoring the protests of Wyatt. Almost tripping three times in my need to get inside quickly I practically slammed into my front door before righting myself and finally stepping inside.

I planned on hiding out here for days.

I can see it now, the next headline will read…

Our small-town hero was caught mid suck when his own mother broke through the pre-sexed haze during a steamy night in the garage.

Kill me now! I knew it was only a matter of time before my own mother got her hands on the information. Oh God, and my father…I felt sick!

C.A. Harms is like any other addicted reader. She enjoys happy endings and HEA love stories. She hasn't always been a lover of Romance and had once been addicted to a good Mystery. Just recently she has taken on a new liking and now is a full blown Romance novel addict.

Review for Little Pieces of Me by Alison Hammer

Little Pieces of Me by  Alison Hammer

Paperback, 400 pages

publication: April 13th 2021 by William Morrow Paperbacks

Genre:  Women’s Fiction, Contemporary, Adult

When Paige Meyer gets an email from a DNA testing website announcing that her father is a man she never met, she is convinced there must be a mistake. But as she digs deeper into her mother's past and her own feelings of being the odd child out growing up, Paige begins to question everything she thought she knew. Could this be why Paige never felt like she fit in her family, and why her mother always seemed to keep her at an arm's length? And what does it mean for Paige's memories of her father, a man she idolized and whose death she is still grieving? Back in 1975, Betsy Kaplan, Paige's mom, is a straightlaced sophomore at the University of Kansas. When her sweet but boring boyfriend disappoints her, Betsy decides she wants more out of life, and is tired of playing it safe. Enter Andy Abrams, the golden boy on campus with a potentially devastating secret. After their night together has unexpected consequences, Betsy is determined to bury the truth and rebuild a stable life for her unborn child, whatever the cost.

When Paige can't get answers from her mother, she goes looking for the only other person who was there that night. The more she learns about what happened, the more she sees her unflappable, distant mother as a real person faced with an impossible choice. But will it be enough to mend their broken relationship?

Told in dual timelines, Little Pieces of Me examines identity and how the way we define ourselves changes (or not) through our life experiences.

My Thoughts…Dual timelines are wonderful when done right.  Alison Hammer did a great job of writing two timelines, one in the present and one in the past, and bringing it all together perfectly.   I loved learning about Paige’s struggle with the results of a DNA test and learning how the results of that DNA test came to be.

The story of Paige’s mom was interesting.  Of course, I did not love the way she treated Alison, but I did understand why it was hard talking about her past.  The story of her college years, her being pregnant, and her raising her family gave me an insight into how she became the women she is today.

Paige’s story tore at my heart.  Learning that the man she loved and thought she was her father was not.   Her mother would not tell her about her father, and she questioned everything she thought she was.   I could not imagine what she was going through but through Alison Hammer’s amazing work I felt like I was invested in Paige finding her place in the world.   I needed her to get her answers and to accept them and be okay.

Little Pieces of Me is a story of being true to yourself, finding yourself, and acceptance.

Review for Courage, My Love by Kristin Beck

Courage, My Love by  Kristin Beck

Kindle Edition

publication: April 13th 2021

Genre: Historical Fiction, WWII, Adult Fiction, Italy

When the Nazi occupation of Rome begins, two courageous young women are plunged deep into the Italian Resistance to fight for their freedom in this captivating debut novel.

Rome, 1943

Lucia Colombo has had her doubts about fascism for years, but as a single mother in an increasingly unstable country, politics are for other people--she needs to focus on keeping herself and her son alive. Then the Italian government falls and the German occupation begins, and suddenly, Lucia finds that complacency is no longer an option.

Francesca Gallo has always been aware of injustice and suffering. A polio survivor who lost her father when he was arrested for his anti-fascist politics, she came to Rome with her fiancé to start a new life. But when the Germans invade and her fiancé is taken by the Nazis, Francesca decides she has only one option: to fight back.

As Lucia and Francesca are pulled deeper into the struggle against the Nazi occupation, both women learn to resist alongside the partisans to drive the Germans from Rome. But as winter sets in, the occupation tightens its grip on the city, and the resistance is in constant danger.

In the darkest days, Francesca and Lucia face their pasts, find the courage to love, and maintain hope for a future that is finally free.

My Thoughts…No one can ever say that WWII, or any war, is anything but horrific.   The ways that people are forced to live, the lives lost, and the countries destroyed are nothing less that horrific.   But out of these wars come some amazing friendships.   In Courage, My Love I chose to focus on the friendship of Lucia and Francesca.    They are two strong, fearless women who work together with the resistance to fight the Germans.    As the war moves on their losses add up and their strength grows.   The Allies are coming, and they must be ready.

The research that Kristin Beck put into this book had to be immense.   She took a time in life when people were living in fear of being captured or killed and brought it to life.  I could picture the ghetto as the soldiers rounded up the people living there.   The sounds of artillery being fired and planes flying over headed were sounds that I heard as I read her book.    I could see the Resistance hiding, running down alleys, and doing their dangerous work all while trying to keep themselves alive.  Courage, My Love is a book that came alive to me as I read it.

I love WWII and learning about that era.   Kristin Beck did a wonderful job in telling a story while teaching her reader the history of the time.  I recommend Courage, My Love to any WWII readers, historical fiction readers, or those interested in losing themselves in a wonderful story of friendship and strength.
