My Thoughts…A woman who has survived cancer and has the most positive outlook on life falls for a man who has lost his leg and struggles to find the good in each day.   Sounds like the perfect match?   In My True Love it is the best match ever.   Grant and Jules have known each other since they were children.  Now grown up and the sparks are flying.  

I could see how Jules could be a little annoying with her positive outlook on every aspect of life and Grant someone who chases people away with just a look.  It makes perfect sense that together they work.   Jules pushes, tugs, and loves Grant in a way that allows him to accept the life that he is living while seeing a better future. 

Melissa Foster embraces Grant’s life.   She shows the realness of losing a limb, coming home after war, and learning to be near your family after being on your own.  These are not easy topics and Melissa takes great care and respect while writing about them.

Vince accommodated a lot from the media. Hell, he basked in their attention. There weren’t too many off-limits questions in Vince-landia, and the press mostly played by the rules. Alice Monroe, the crypt keeper of Anthem’s media machine for decades, made sure of it. No one wanted to cross Alice. The woman was ruthless. Alice, however, was not my publicist. My only protection was Vince, and he wasn’t exactly trustworthy. Because Vince Davis was a rock god. Alice hustled him toward another microphone while I lagged behind on the carpet. I felt exposed, just standing out there with no protection. They all wanted a sound bite from Vince, especially since his ex-wife landed a reality show that was doing “boffo” ratings, in Variety-speak. He was careful to dance around those questions. “Lydon! Lydon!” The shout of my name had me scanning the line of press, all crammed behind the stanchions. They all ignored me. “Lydon, over here!” My head twisted. Alice, looking annoyed, took me by the arm and marched me to a small, elevated table with two barstools on either side. “Lydon, Jessica Phelps from Reality Bytes. Jessica, Lydon Johnson.” Alice pushed me down onto the stool and hissed “Play nice” into my ear before scurrying back to Vince before he got himself into trouble. Ugh. Reality Bytes, a ghastly half-hour celebrity news show that had begun as a reality TV “news” program. While they still mostly covered the reality genre, they showed up for big red carpets to do live remotes. I say “practiced” because Vivienne made me say it over and over again while I got ready so that I didn’t forget. “Never heard of Rhode to Ruin,” Jessica said. There was a small sneer to the words, like she was disappointed that I didn’t rate the attention of one of the big-named designers. “I’ve always preferred to work with independent designers. My Thoughts…A young woman feels the need to do more than teach privileged students French at a private school.   When the opportunity comes, she jumps in with both feet.   There is no hesitation, just a need to do more.  Immediately, I knew that she would have a bigger part in the WWII war efforts.   She would do amazing things, see things I would never want to, and have experiences that terrify me.   Most of all I knew she would be a hero.   I was not disappointed with her story, her life, her drive at all.  

The story of the OSS sending women right into war zones because women are questioned less due to men expecting less of them is not a new story, but Jane Healey told it in a new way to me.   I loved how detailed the story was.   I could picture the places that Anna was sent, hear the voices of the people she met, and feel her fear as she went places that many were trying to escape.    The story came alive as I read word after word unable to put the book down.   

Whether you are a professional WWII reader (my favorite genre) or new to the genre this book will bring the war alive to you.   You will meet brave and amazing characters.  Learn wonderful and horrific things about what happen to people and places during the war.  Most of all you will be transported to a time and place that I am lucky to not have lived in but love to learn so much about.
