Children's Book Review for Ollie and Beep by Preston Knowles

Ollie and Beep by  Preston Knowles

Published:  September 2, 2025 by Blue Balloon Books

Taken from Amazon:  “Everything changes, Ollie. But nothing is truly lost.”

Ollie and Beep, a bear and penguin duo, are inseparable best friends who’ve gone on many adventures together. But one day, Ollie grows concerned that Beep is slowing down, and he worries that their travels will soon come to an end. On a heartfelt ride down the river, Beep reassures Ollie, sharing the lessons he’s learned during his long life on embracing change and cherishing every moment.

A thoroughly touching and wise exploration of the effects of loss, Ollie and Beep guides young readers through grief and the passage of time, teaching them to appreciate the gifts of the present rather than worry about the hardships of the future.

My Thoughts:  Grief and fear of losing someone you love is tough for an adult.   It is even harder for a young person.  The author uses two cartoonish characters to explain how to not be afraid.   Everything Beep is feeling about Ollie getting older is child friendly.  The words used are small enough words that a child can understand.  The conversations is not scary, it is truth in a way that children will comprehend.

Ollie and Beep is a cute book with a story that can help a child understand an adult topic.  The pictures are easy to look at and go along perfectly with the story.

Thank you Blue Balloon Books for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

  1. Just received my copy and it’s a very touching book about life and how it changes. Written where a young child can read and understand. I highly recommend this book for all children to learn about how life changes.
