Book Review for Buried in Orange by John H. Cunningham

Buried in Orange by John H. Cunningham

Taken from Goodreads:

Buck is asked to come to Italy by Sir Harry Greenbaum, his former main investor, and old family friend, to do a flyover at the beginning of the Formula 1 race in Monza. Turns out the real reason Harry asked him to come was to help him combat organized crime members intent on forcing their way into his pending investment into one of the Formula 1’s most historic teams. When Harry gets kidnapped, Buck is forced to scour northern Italy searching for him and negotiating with his captors.

If everything isn’t settled by the end of the race in Monza, Harry and Buck’s lives are jeopardy, but when they try to outmaneuver the head of the crime syndicate, thousands of lives are thrust into immediate danger. Buck’s race against time leads to more surprises than he ever anticipated.

My Thoughts:  This is my first Buck Reilly book and I am happy to say that I will be looking for more.   Buried in Orange was a quick and fun read.   The story moved along at a good pace and the mystery/thriller aspect of the book kept me intrigued as to what would happen next.   There was some technical airplane and Formula 1 Racing areas that I skimmed over just because it was not something I was familiar with, but this did not take anything away from the book itself.

Sir Harry and Buck’s relationship is strong.  Sir Harry has no doubt that Buck will do whatever he needs to do to protect Harry’s interest in Formula 1 racing and work to save Harry’s life.   Buck’s relationship with Heather, his ex-wife and current girlfriend, needs some work but I liked how Heather supported him in his journey to do what needs to be done.

Buried in Orange is a mystery book full of descriptions that will bring the story alive as you read it.  I was able to picture what was happening as I read the story.  I really enjoyed visiting both Key West and Italy with Buck.

Meet that Author (taken from his website):  John H. Cunningham is the author of the best-selling, seven book, Buck Reilly Adventure
Series, which includes Red Right ReturnGreen to GoCrystal BlueSecond Chance GoldMaroon RisingFree Fall to Black and Silver Goodbye.

Through the years, John has been a bouncer at a Key West nightclub, a diver, pilot, magazine editor, commercial developer, song writer and global traveler. He has either lived in or visited the many island locations that populate the series, and has experienced or witnessed enough craziness and wild times to keep the Buck Reilly series flowing. John mixes fact with fiction and often includes real people in his novels, like Jimmy Buffett, Chris Blackwell, Matt Hoggatt, Thom Shepherd, Dave McKenney, Keith Sykes, Marius Stakelborough, Bruno Magras and Bankie Banx to augment the reader’s experience.

Adhering to the old maxim, “write what you know,” John’s books have an authenticity and immediacy that have earned a loyal following and strong reviews. Buck Reilly is a reflection of us all, including our frailties, strengths, dreams, fears, successes, failures, mistakes and occasional victories. No government agency, team of soldiers, unlimited cash, or secret agents are coming to Buck’s rescue, because, well they’re not coming to rescue us either, are they?

John lives in Virginia and Key West, and spends much of his time traveling. His choices for the places and plots that populate the Buck Reilly series include many subjects that he loves: Key West, Cuba, Jamaica, and multiple Caribbean settings, along with amphibious aircraft, colorful characters, and stories that concern themselves with the same tensions and issues that affect all of our lives.
